Well, the latest “last stand” anyway.

KISMAYU, Somalia - Islamist fighters abandoned the last major town they held early today and were seen heading south toward the Kenyan border while government forces approached slowly because of land mines, residents and a government spokesman said.

Wait… Wasn’t that supposed to be the place where the glorious Jumpin’ Jihadis “made a stand” against the eeeevil infidel Ethiopians? Dammit, but it’s getting hard to keep up with the Assholes for Allah the way they’re straightening out front lines every five minutes, and always as far away from the enemy as their sandaled toes will carry them.

The Islamist forces began to disintegrate after a night of artillery attacks at the front line and following a mutiny within its ranks, witnesses said. Government spokesman Abdirahman Dinari said he had information that Islamist forces were moving south toward the Kenyan border.

Those would be the same Islamofascist sand lice that, a mere couple of weeks ago, were triumphantly declaring a jihad against Ethiopia, inviting all splodeydopes of the world to come join them.

We don’t care who you are, that’s funny, right there.

The way their jihad is going, they’re going to be in magnificent shape at the end of it, having run non-stop all the way from the Ethiopian border to Kenya in a matter of days.

Yesterday in Kismayu, Somalia’s third-largest city, an estimated 3,000 Islamist fighters were preparing for a bloody showdown, but guerrilla Rabi Ahmed told the Associated Press that about 50 militiamen in the city were refusing to go to the front and fight.

Islamist leaders had vowed to make a stand against Ethiopia, which has one of the largest armies in Africa, or to begin an Iraq-style guerrilla war.

Looks like “making a stand” is right out, doesn’t it? Oh, and before you get too giddy about your “Iraq-style guerrilla war”, you might want to keep in mind that the government of Ethiopia isn’t pathologically afraid of a disapproving editorial in the New York Times and that they don’t seem to be burdened down by an army of worthless REMF JAG-offs hell-bent on helping the enemy in every way they possibly can with their Rules of Endangerment.

“We will continue fighting the Ethiopians from everywhere until they leave Somalia,” Islamist spokesman Abdirahim Ali Mudey told Reuters.

“Everywhere” except for, well, Somalia, of course.

The intervention of Ethiopia has reversed the fortunes of the government and the hard-line religious Islamists, which just two weeks ago controlled the capital and appeared on the verge of routing a weak interim government stranded in a provincial town.

In case you don’t speak Journalistese, “routing a weak interim government” in this case means “armed insurgency, aiming at taking by force what they couldn’t get at the ballot box.” In times past, it used to be something that free countries and their news agencies took a dim view of. Not so anymore.

Kenya has reinforced its northern border, and U.S. forces are said to be in the region, including the sea, to prevent the escape of foreign militants aligned with the Islamists.

We already have a hammer. Now meet Mr Anvil.

They brought order to Mogadishu for the first time since 1991, when warlords ousted a dictator.

“They made the trains run on time.”

But some of their hard-line practices such as closing cinemas and holding public executions angered some Somalis

And absolutely NO western journalists. After all, what’s a few public executions among friends as long as it’s in the service of totalitarianism?

and fueled U.S. and Ethiopian accusations that they were a dangerous Taliban-style movement.

How on Earth would they have gotten that idea?

We can’t wait for the next installment of “How the Darlings of the Left, the Murderous, Islamofascist Swine of Somalia were Exterminated by Ethiopia.”

It’s almost as much fun as watching the Loony Left wearing ashes and sackcloth over the execution of Saddam Hussein.
