Meanwhile, in New York…

As our British allies mark the first anniversary of the murderous terrorist attack that cost 52 lives, we’re informed by the NY Daily News that the FBI have unraveled and stopped a plot to blow up the Holland Tunnel in order to flood Lower Manhattan. Again, we see the benefits (to our side) of Muslim societies being stuck on stupid in the 7th century. If they hadn’t been, they might have known that Lower Manhattan is above water level. Not that it would have been much consolation to the poor people stuck in the tunnel, but at least it gives us an opportunity to laugh at the inbred stupidity of the Religion of Pus.
So all is good, right? Well, not quite:
The News has learned that at the request of U.S. officials, authorities in Beirut arrested one of the alleged conspirators, identified as Amir Andalousli, in recent months. Agents were scrambling yesterday to try to nab other suspects, sources said.
They didn’t indicate how many people were the target of the international dragnet but said they were scattered all over the world.
“This is an ongoing operation,” one source said.
[…]
The Lebanese government had been expected to release a statement about Andalousli’s arrest but was asked by the U.S. to hold off while operations to disrupt the plot continued, sources said.
Well, it isn’t a secret or an “ongoing investigation” anymore, now that the Daily News have decided to blow the lid off of it, but we’ll let the pros explain how it works and why that is a Bad Thing™:
But another DOJ source added something interesting to the mix: “If you go back and look at some of our more successful anti-terrorism cases, they have focused on taking down entire networks. How do we do that? From the inside, peeling off a lead actor, turning him and using him to keep the plot moving forward so we can trace everyone else, the money, the accounts, the weapons dealers, everyone. I’ll just note that we weren’t able to do that with this case and leave it at that. We could have, but we weren’t able to. You’ll have to do the math for the Times.“
Preferably by using a large chunk of wood, a bag of rusty nails, a car battery and a bit of wire.
To save the Loony Left the trouble, we’ll hurry up and say it for them: “Nothing was disclosed that the terrorists didn’t already know. You don’t mean to suggest that they’re not aware that our counter-terrorist professionals are hunting them? There. No harm done.”
Now those of us with a brain won’t have to suffer through listening to their mindless blather.

According to the latest on LGF, it was actually more serious than that: they were planning to detonate inside the PATH tunnel under the Hudson River, which could’ve flooded the entire NYC subway system.
July 7th, 2006 at 7:39 pmLuckily, the FBI already had enough info to stop this attack, despite the best efforts of the NYT.
July 7th, 2006 at 7:59 pmActually, it was the NY Daily News that couldn’t keep their oversized pieholes shut this time, but that doesn’t change the point.
Thankfully, the
MSMal-Qaeda Intelligence Service didn’t find out about it until we’d already busted the plot and caught quite a few of the bad guys. But thanks to their loose lips, it’s now pretty much a certainty that we won’t catch the rest.
July 7th, 2006 at 8:11 pmDammit. Keller must be kicking himself for being scooped like that and not getting a chance to tell the terrorists that we were on to them sooner.
Heads are going to roll.

July 7th, 2006 at 9:49 pmUnless they are being tracked. Its the way I would do it. Bust the immediate threat, put watchers on the rest, and let the media warn them so they head for thier bolt-holes.
July 8th, 2006 at 6:19 am[…] What we have in the flood that couldn’t really flood the financial district story is a leak that is not a leak and a flood of stories that serve to scare people just in time for the midterm elections. We will hear no uproar for all the terrorrists, aspirational or otherwise, who now will avoid chat rooms as a means and a method for “plotting.” “Treason” only applies for those stories that politically wound the White House story. That’s nice: “It is nice to know about the successes to stop these kinds of threats. It is comforting that we have programs set up that can lead to dismantling the evil plans and save countless lives.” Plus: Idle chat? “Why anyone would object to our monitoring their phone conversations is beyond me. And why anyone, or any news organization, would expose that monitoring program just pi$$es me off.” After the flood, this all comes back to the NY Times: “Well, it isn’t a secret or an “ongoing investigation” anymore, now that the Daily News have decided to blow the lid off of it, but we’ll let the pros explain how it works and why that is a Bad Thing™ . . .” And it will just get worse. July 8th, 2006 at 8:17 amUnless we’ve stuck GPS trackers up their asses, that’s going to be hard to accomplish, since they have most certainly gone completely dark now that the NY Daily News has informed them that the gig is irrevocably up.
