Bye, Bye, Ms American Spy

It’s rare that one single post can shoot a site directly to the Imperial Blogroll, but one such example has to be this one from LC (& now IB) Mr. Right of The Right Place (hat tip to LC Wes).
Not only did it have His Sithness laughing so hard that his intercostals may never recover, it’s also a masterpiece as far as the Arcane Art of Song Parodies goes. Writing song parodies right is a damn sight harder than it looks, at least if you want to do it right. Not only does it have to scan and rhyme, it’s not much of a song if it doesn’t, it also has to be “true” to the original in flow and message while, at the same time, being more than just a carbon copy with a few words substituted.
This’ll make sense if you’ve ever tried.
Anyway, if you want to see how it’s done, there’s an example for you. His Majesty is scribbling notes furiously here.
What?
Oh yes. The rest of his site is great too. Very great indeed.

July 15th, 2006 at 5:41 pmHooker, read comment #3 and get busy! Radio CIA wants this song in the worst way!
July 15th, 2006 at 6:52 pmThis is bound to be a #1 hit after recorded. I laughed my ass off. I can just see a bunch of college hippies sitting in a circle crooning this version like Don’s original.
NOT!!!!
Somebody needs to send this to Don McClain and see if he’ll record it.
July 15th, 2006 at 7:59 pmPIMF - Don McLean.
July 15th, 2006 at 8:01 pmThanks for linking this - I do read that site, but have been busy and would probably have missed it otherwise. You’re absolutely right, (good) song parody is a devilishly difficult art and he’s done a wonderful job.
July 15th, 2006 at 8:34 pmThat was absolutely gut-busting hilarious… if I had a CDG of the original (or something like that) I would consider recording it… I don’t have that great of a voice but not that bad either… hmm. Maybe I should consider buying a copy of the CDG…

July 16th, 2006 at 3:03 pmSomething to be said for Michelle Malkin reading “The Night Before Fitzmas” as well.
DO NOT have the “Little Woman” in the room. ‘Nuff said about that.
