I am writing to express shock, dismay and outrage at what is quite possibly the most idiotic thing I have ever heard coming out of a news anchor’s mouth. I quote specifically from Chris Matthew’s show, on-site anchor Brian Williams:

Men and women who risk their lives to do a job and save as many innocents as possible in the process, under fire and scrutiny from a media that is obviously pro-terrorism, are the same as a bunch of religious fanatics who seek to immolate themselves and take as many utterly innocent people with them as possible in the process? Who try to blow up our planes and our buildings in the name of a religion that preaches hate, violence, and abuse of women and holds up the violent deaths of small children as its highest ideal?
I find this comment utterly sick and despicable and unworthy of any decent human being. Shame on Williams for saying it and on NBC for publishing it. NBC can do without my viewership and the viewership of any of my friends and family who read my blog and personal journal for supporting and publishing trash like this.

I had retired less than three years from a local PD when I watched the WTC towers burn and collapse. My heart sank as I realized that there were hundreds of public safety officers, fire and police, that were still in those buildings, and they were now dead.
They did not enter those doomed structures propelled by an unholy death wish. They entered the Twin Towers expecting to save lives.
They did not kiss their wives and children goodbye the morning of 11 SEP 01 knowing that they would never see them again even though there’s always that chance.
They did not go to work to take their own lives but to give others a chance to live.
And that is what Mr. Williams, that empty suit, that clueless talking news reader fails to comprehend. Mr. Williams has no sense of duty or honor or self sacrifice so he is incapable of understanding the difference. A Navy Seal, an Army Ranger, and our SpecOps soldiers all go into battle with an expectation, not of dying, but of doing the job, accomplishing the objectives they have given and then returning home. Thank the Good Lord above, the overwhelming majority of them do.
So let me buy Mr.Williams a clue, the deaths of the 9/11 cops and fireman are nothing, NOTHING like the self-destruction of suicide bombers who pull a pin and annihilate innocent lives. The men and women in our Armed Forces are not on a jihad, they are professionals trained to do a job and they do it magnificently.
I am nearly speechless at the profound ignorance that your people have manifested regarding the roles of our military and public safety officials in performing their sworn duties! In over thirty years experience in law enforcement I have admittedly grown calloused at the arrogance and ignorance of the media and normally your senseless noise goes right by me. But this takes the cake. This is truly another milestone on your road to irrelevance. I hope you find the ride comfortable.

To compare members of our Armed Forces with terrorists is sickening enough, but to compare unarmed, often unprotected emergency personnel who on many occasions
give their lives to save those in need is beyond belief. To not immediately remove this man from the airwaves is an act almost as bad.
Please note that I took the time to find the manual for my digital cable so I could block all the channels connected to your network. I have written to my cable
company to suggest they remove your network from their packages (futile as this may be, I think they should know how their customers feel) and I have contacted as
many people as I can to enlighten them as to the nature of the people you allow on your broadcasts and suggest they do the same.
Mr Williams should be dismissed for his slanderous lies and your network should be shunned for broadcasting the same.
I trust your advertisers will understand the nature of the mistake they will be making in spending money with a network so dedicated to disparaging their own customers and will move their business elsewhere.

How this man can find a moral equivalence between people who deliberately take their own lives in order to kill, maim and destroy and people who risk their lives to save and protects the lives of others is beyond all comprehension.
