Nobody will talk about it. The few who do are labeled as “warmongers”, or “barbarians” who have yet to come out of their caves from the mid-twentieth century when people apparently “did such things” as fight “in that way”. We all know what it would take to placate the Middle East, but nobody wants to actually dirty their hands, or their speech, by stating it. We worry about what the enemy thinks of us and try to win their “hearts and minds” before we actually win the war. We worry about upsetting people who are already out to kill us in every way possible, as if we can somehow appease them into killing us a little more slowly. Or, perhaps, some people think that they don’t really mean what they say, and chalk the whole thing up to some sort of exotic cultural rhetoric. […]
