Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler » If Now Were Then

(Via the IB Wuzzadem)

A few excerpts, but do go read the whole thing:

Dateline: London, June 18, 1940 — The following are the chamber remarks of the fictional Lord Harold Reid (whose fictional grandson in the 21st century would become leader of the fictional Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate).

“I regret to have to stand up tonight, on the day of defeat at the hands of the Germans of our French ally’s armies at Sedan and on the Meuse River to observe that on this solemn occasion, Prime Minister Winston Churchill has chosen to politicize and cheapen the moment. Permit me to perform just a brief exegesis of his speech, which his right-wing Press Baron friend Lord Murdoch has quickly labeled ‘The Finest Hour’ speech in the London Times.

[…]

Worse, he has only created Nazi enemies where before there were none. Let the record before the House of Lords show that when we declared war on Germany last September, there wasn’t a single Nazi soldier in France. Now, there are over a million — while 50,000 of our best lay dead or terribly injured. Churchill’s cheap argument that it is better to fight the Nazis over there in France so we won’t have to fight them here at home — is coming a cropper. According to Reuters’s Berlin desk, proud young German men started lining up at the Army recruiting stations when they read in Der Stuermer that Churchill had Jewish friends who were egging him on to fight Hitler.

If that’s not a thing of beauty…

If now was then, we’d all be speaking German right now.

Those of use that didn’t go to the death camps that is.

Let’s just thank God that the Islamic hordes couldn’t organise a fuck in a whorehouse.

    We are scared.

If we call the entity that has sworn to destroy us an “enemy”, we might make an enemy.

Just as our so-called cultural elites now make the above claim, “intellectuals” like Simone De Beauvoir railed that the “inflammatory rhetoric” of the right was worse than the threat posed by the Nazis.

Islamism isn’t our enemy, in their minds- calling Islam the enemy is the enemy.

Republicans have been doing this political pontification thang for a looong time.

    Ever been to Gettysburg?

It is rather for us, the living, to stand here, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that, from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Misha, brilliant as so very often.

I am truly happy that I am not the only one who examines today’s public opinions and reactions in the light of my country’s not too distant past. And if I read the comments here I see that I am also not the only one who sees the similarities between Germany then and the whole of Western society now.

The similarities are striking, but many don’t see it or don’t want to see it. But it has been like that in pre-WW2-Europe as well. And they survived in the end. We might have a hard conflict ahead, but we will get through it.

A more striking comparison would be this one:

I have mentioned 1938 before….and 1939 is well on it’s way. The coming conflagration will prove much harder to fight due to political machinations of the self-hating left. And those ass sucking quislings here at home can be blamed for it. I intend to remember that…………especially should I be forced into any combat scenario here at home. The Muslims will be shot second, after the………
