Going to War Without the French

…is like going hunting without a Mariachi band.
French special forces tracking Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan have been ordered home by President Jacques Chirac because of the “worsening security situation,” Britain’s Daily Telegraph newspaper reported yesterday.
We pause briefly to emphasize that “special forces” doesn’t mean quite the same thing in fwance that it does in other countries. Oh, they’re special alright, just not the kind of special you’d normally think of.
But, according to unnamed military sources cited in Le Journal du Dimanche, Mr. Chirac gave the go-ahead during a defence counsel meeting to pull the men out of the country by early 2007. According to the report, the troops were badly shaken by the recent death of nine members during a mission.
You have to understand: This is the first time in almost 200 years of fwench history in which an enemy has had time to kill 9 members of their armed forces before they could manage to run for the hills.
“Traumatic experience” doesn’t even begin to describe it.

Maybe the “worsening security situation” Monsieur Chirac is talking about is the situation right outside his Palais Elyseé ?

No one, and I mean NO ONE, hates the *spit* fwench *spit* more than I do. However, I’m not sure this is an appropriate time to bash them. They lost 9 men who we should be eternally grateful to for their sacrifce.
Long time lurker, first time poster.

October 16th, 2006 at 5:04 pmUnnerved… UNNERVED?!?!?
What about pissed off, homicidal, vengeful, full of wrath, ferocious, outraged, relentless, implacable?
*sigh*
Brie eaters.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:06 pmI am grateful for their sacrifice AND contemptuous of their nation, their leadership and the complete and utter lack of spine of the latter.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:15 pmTypical Fwench.
October 16th, 2006 at 5:16 pmMany years ago I asked my husband(British immigrant) why the French were referred to as “frogs”
He said, “Well dahling, haven’t you noticed that every time there is trouble in the world, the little French just hop away? Hence, we call them Froggies.”
Now I understand what he was talking about.
Cowards.
Wonder if Fwance is going to send a shortbus to pick them up and take them home?
October 16th, 2006 at 5:26 pmPerhaps I should make a distinction here between the fwench government and french soldiers. I can understand bashing their government but it just seems callous to dismiss the sacrifice of the nine men over there. Hell, that was probably thier entire contingent BUT they were still soldiers sent to do a job.
I served in our Army, infantry in fact, and I met quite a few wonderful french soldiers. It’s their government we have a quarrel with. The average soldier does what he does because he believes in a higher purpose. It’s the politicians that blork it all up.
So please, continue with the bashing of the french, hell, I love it, but do not make light of the loses of those fine men.

October 16th, 2006 at 5:38 pmBadly shaken I don’t doubt. But I’m with Sig here. I’d expect the troopers to be pissed off and ready to rock the shit out of the jihadis who killed their comrades. I’ll not belittle the loss of those troops, but I’ll razz the hell out of the rest if they don’t scream and holler to stay where they are and kick some ass!

I am in complete agreement with you. I have also served with, and alongside, a couple of French units. One Airborne and one Engineer. They were good guys and, more often than not, had nothing but contempt for the actions of their politicians and Press.
The guys and gals that do the fighting and dying from EVERY country usually have a common bond of respect for the others capabilities and willingness to place their comrades well being ahead of their own by fighting with them and dying with them if neccessary.
I will never fault such men.
October 16th, 2006 at 6:43 pmOh for chrissakes, guys, everyone should see that it’s obvious we’re talking about the GOVERNMENT, not the soldiers themselves. They didn’t order THEMSELVES out, they were ordered out by Chimprac: The Wimp. The Whiner. The Crybaby. The hippity hoppity Frog.
October 16th, 2006 at 7:29 pmI can just hear him saying, “Run away, run away!!!”
I like “french kissing”, I do dearly love the “french” form of sexual pleasure, I truly respect that french “underground” that fought against the Imperialist Socialists (Nazis) in WW2, I enjoy French cuisine. They make DAMN good food (by and large) and wine. But the new fwench pussification? PUSSIES!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know any right wing bloggers (with a good enough audience) in EUrabia? Send them this comment. You’re NOT pussies? Prove it. I love PUSSY. I’m completely unimpressed with PUSSIES. There can NOT be more of them than there are those who wish freedom. “Those who would sacrifice liberty for safety deserve neither”. Pay attention to one of the truest geniuses of this or any other time. You want Freedom? You want Liberty? You want Safety? STAND UP! COWBOY THE FUCK UP! ENOUGH!
October 16th, 2006 at 7:57 pmNo, fer chrissakes, Nerbygirl, it’s NOT always so obvious. I have seen MANY comments regarding French soldiers in the field and NOT their government so please don’t say it’s obvious to EVERYONE.
Nevertheless, I am sure it wasn’t meant to make light of them in this case.
October 16th, 2006 at 7:58 pmAs individuals, the French are just as courageous, bold and self-sacrificing as any man-jack you might find here in the US….
It’s just they have the most God-awful ideas when it comes to picking leadership.
For some reason, as a group, the French bet feel they are represented by spineless, Anti-Semetic cretins. Which is weird, cause like I say, one on one, the French are a fine people. They just shouldn’t be allowed to govern a nation.
October 16th, 2006 at 8:17 pmWhereas we do truly understand that it’s not the people it’s their governing body, are they not in a democracy? Could they not elect someone who represents the true will of the people? Or are they just too busy scarfing escargot to care? Can anybody get them fired up? Long, long ago, etc, they damn near ruled the world. They helped us win our freedom from the monarchy, etc. Then they, by and large, lost their nuts. EUrabia needs to stand up! The People don’t want that shit? Stand UP!
October 17th, 2006 at 9:36 amI just realized why the fwench have declining birth rates. They are masters of pulling out.
But seriously, I would expect any nations soldiers to seek a little payback for the death of their fellow troops. If they don’t, then their morale is probably shot, and have no business being there. Our guys, as always, will take up the slack.
