Oh yes, it’s the Danish Cartoon Story again.
Not only have the followers of the Prophet of Pedophilia taken it upon themselves to fabricate cartoons that weren’t ever published, as a matter of fact they were drawn by the syphilitic fleas in the prophet Mohammed’s beard (bees piss upon him), not only have they wailed to the Useless Nitwits in a vain attempt to abolish free speech, but now they’re trying to add a boycott and a termination of diplomatic relations to push through their idea that Allah (pigs ejaculate upon him) is the one true god.
The Saudis (our very good friends as George al-Bush likes to call them, and he can go fuck himself) have called back their ambassador and are calling for a boycott of Danish goods to punish them for having the nerve to believe that freedom of speech is something more than a nice turn of phrase.
And now they’re threatening to blow up innocents in Denmark as a result of the Danish government’s refusal to make fornication with pigs mandatory and abolishing freedom of expression, all par for the course where the Religion of Pus is concerned.
Heaven forbid if someone were to point out that your “prophet” is a pedophile piece of shit who endorses the murder of innocents.
You seem to have missed the point when the Danish PM told you to go stuff it, however. You also seem to have missed the fact that when your precious “prophet” was still busy stroking himself in order to get an erection hard enough to rape a 9 year old girl, my ancestors had been lopping off heads for so long that it was beginning to bore them.

I’m not sure what causes this, but oil inspires a superstitious fear and awe among the unwashed masses, as do oil companies. Private oil companies don’t exist in most of the world, so the image of a private actor who strides the world making deals, without permission, seems to frighten people. This fear is superstitious, and is easily manipulated by politicians and by writers who are frightened by bogey men of their own making(Blood for oil anyone?).
Oil is a fungible commodity. It’s just like any other commodity, and it is not immune to market forces. The United States sources about 15% of their oil from the Saudis, but of course the Saudis get almost 100% of their national income from it. America is not hostage to their oil, quite the contrary, they are hostage to it. If they cut their oil production, Russia, or Mexico, or Angola, will increase production to fill the gap, and they know it. Caspian oil is coming on line. The focus for some oil companies is shifting to Equatorial Africa right now. Saudi control of the oil market is illusory, and they more than anyone know it.
They are not going to go back to the desert to eat figs. It isn’t going to happen. Most of the country’s water comes from desalination plants, and the option of retreat from modernity is simply not an option. As divorced from reality as much of the country’s populace may be, any new leadership which emerges will have to respond to that reality, and the reality is that they must pump, and they must hire foreign workers to operate their industries. The idea of an overt war between Saudi Arabia and the West, post-Saddam, is also a fantasy that has vanished with the morning sun. The almost comedic collapse of Saddam has been a wakeup call to everyone in the region, including the Sauds, and including their enemies. Any anti-Saud revolution will be forced to keep their anti-Western tendencies under tight wraps, or face certain humiliation. Not to mention, death.
There is a “special relationship” between the US and Saudi Arabia, but the oil companies are not at the heart of it. The source of the “special relationship” is banking secrecy. That, and the hermetic control of their national territory makes Saudi Arabia a perfect partner to the CIA, for example. The Saudis have long financed off-books CIA operations, and allowed themselves to be used as extensions of the agency. There are a high number of CIA agents that go into Saudi service upon retirement from the agency. We could go farther, though, and note the large number of diplomats and ambassadors (such as Joe Wilson) who head Saudi-financed think-tanks at generous salaries after serving a few years in the kingdom.
Journalists who write favorably of the kingdom are well remunerated. We know that Bush Snr. is publicly close business partners with the Saudis, but banking secrecy that is beyond anything the Swiss offer masks the business ties that likely exist between the Sauds and other former heads of state. Until recently, the fact, or conjecture, that a key members of the American government might be, in effect, Saudi agents, would have been relatively benign. They were an insular kingdom, and they were used as a platform for American ambitions in the region; they had none themselves. But after the first Afghan war, this changed; they saw opportunity beyond their borders, and began to finance insurgencies all across Asia, from Chechnya, to western China, to the Philippines, to the Balkans. And suddenly the Saudi tail began to wag the US dog, so to speak.

After all, we’re the nation that pays subsidies to tobacco farmers, so the cigarette companies can make a product that is recognized to have a high social and econonic cost to the various states. This means that more American civilians will have to die before a significant change can be made. By then, our industrial capacity should be in shambles with GM and Ford ahutting down all operations because the free trade at any cost people failed to grasp the national security implecations of their actions. o now it’s cartoons of the Prophet Mohamed with a bomb-shaped turban. Ambassadors are withdrawn from Denmark, Gulf nations clear their shelves of Danish produce, Gaza gunmen threaten the European Union. In Denmark, Fleming Rose, the “culture” editor of the pip-squeak newspaper which published these silly cartoons–last September, for heaven’s sake–announces that we are witnessing a “clash of civilisations” between secular Western democracies and Islamic societies. This does prove, I suppose, that Danish journalists follow in the tradition of Hans Christian Anderson. Oh lordy, lordy. What we’re witnessing is the childishness of civilisations.
So let’s start off with the Department of Home Truths. This is not an issue of secularism versus Islam. For Muslims, the Prophet is the man who received divine words directly from God. We see our prophets as faintly historical figures, at odds with our high-tech human rights, almost cariacatures of themselves. The fact is that Muslims live their religion. We do not. They have kept their faith through innumerable historical vicissitudes. We have lost our faith ever since Matthew Arnold wrote about the sea’s “long, withdrawing roar”. That’s why we talk about “the West versus Islam” rather than “Christians versus Islam”–because there aren’t an awful lot of Christians left in Europe. There is no way we can get round this by setting up all the other world religions and asking why we are not allowed to make fun of Mohamed.
Besides, we can exercise our own hypocrisy over religious feelings. I happen to remember how, more than a decade ago, a film called The Last Temptation of Christ showed Jesus making love to a woman. In Paris, someone set fire to the cinema showing the movie, killing a young man. I also happen to remember a US university which invited me to give a lecture three years ago. I did. It was entitled “September 11, 2001: ask who did it but, for God’s sake, don’t ask why”. When I arrived, I found that the university had deleted the phrase “for God’s sake” because “we didn’t want to offend certain sensibilities”. Ah-ha, so we have “sensibilities” too.
In other words, while we claim that Muslims must be good secularists when it comes to free speech–or cheap cartoons–we can worry about adherents to our own precious religion just as much. I also enjoyed the pompous claims of European statesmen that they cannot control free speech or newspapers. This is also nonsense. Had that cartoon of the Prophet shown instead a chief rabbi with a bomb-shaped hat, we would have had “anti-Semitism” screamed into our ears–and rightly so–just as we often hear the Israelis complain about anti-Semitic cartoons in Egyptian newspapers.
Furthermore, in some European nations–France is one, Germany and Austria are among the others–it is forbidden by law to deny acts of genocide. In France, for example, it is illegal to say that the Jewish Holocaust or the Armenian Holocaust did not happen. So it is, in fact, impermissable to make certain statements in European nations. I’m still uncertain whether these laws attain their objectives; however much you may prescribe Holocaust denial, anti-Semites will always try to find a way round. We can hardly exercise our political restraints to prevent Holocaust deniers and then start screaming about secularism when we find that Muslims object to our provocative and insulting image of the Prophet.
For many Muslims, the “Islamic” reaction to this affair is an embarrassment. There is good reason to believe that Muslims would like to see some element of reform introduced to their religion. If this cartoon had advanced the cause of those who want to debate this issue, no-one would have minded. But it was clearly intended to be provocative. It was so outrageous that it only caused reaction.
And this is not a great time to heat up the old Samuel Huntingdon garbage about a “clash of civilisations”. Iran now has a clerical government again. So, to all intents and purposes, does Iraq (which was not supposed to end up with a democratically elected clerical administration, but that’s what happens when you topple dictators). In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood won 20 per cent of the seats in the recent parliamentary elections. Now we have Hamas in charge of “Palestine”. There’s a message here, isn’t there? That America’s policies–”regime change” in the Middle East–are not achieving their ends. These millions of voters were preferring Islam to the corrupt regimes which we imposed on them.
For the Danish cartoon to be dumped on top of this fire is dangerous indeed.

The problem is that these cartoons portrayed Mohamed as a bin Laden-type image of violence. They portrayed Islam as a violent religion. It is not. Or do we want to make it so?

Does Denmark have this law? I actually don’t know. Arguments are never advanced when you declare one side verboten. When a people are not allowed to put out their side of an issue there is no way to debate it and expose the flaws in their position or refute what they say with facts. To a degree the U.S. suffers from that (unwritten) with regards to race.
Remember the original reason for the drawings..no one was willing to illustrate a book on Islam for fear of reprisal. And what a reaction it provoked, perhaps the artists were right to fear drawing anything involving Islam.
Outside of the Shah of Iran, who we did prop up and would bet most in Iran would prefer to have back now, The Euro’s and Soviet’s set up the countries and rulers. We’ve just worked with the cards we were dealt. Plus out of all the countries involved in this particular “clash”, Iraq seems awfully quiet.

Such a system invariably frowns on the behavior exemplified by the death-cult members in recent weeks.
You’re right. For most of the West, Christianity is a vague rememberance of Sunday school lessons and an excuse to get a few days off from work each year. For the very extreme in the West, it is a vilified belief system that because of its role in the origin of law, is equated at any public acknowledgment of that heritage, with cramming the religion down the throats of the deliberate disbelievers. Having said that, the West’s culture is about LIFE. I can’t deny the diminishing effect of abortion and euthanasia on this motif, but the fact that we permit dissent speaks volumes about the cultural rift in play here. (You’ll notice that I said dissent. Not threaten. Not intimidate. Not riot. Not burn. Not kill. Let that sink in for a minute.) The followers of other religions will speak out against perceived slights and offences, not act like bloodthirsty animals. Fatwa, anyone?

As for the censorship on the University campus, I acknowledge that we as a society nodded off for a few minutes, and as a result, we are faced with the irony that these bastions of “academic freedom” are the last places where a person can speak favorably about Christianity, God, and conservative ideas. We’re working on it. The ‘sensibilities’ complaining are very similar to those of the people you keep apologizing for. The walls of academia have insulated them from the slings and arrows of free discourse.

Nobody demanded that the muslims be “good secularists” in response to the cartoons. The real offense is that these “good muslims“ responded as if they had the right to dictate the behavior of those who had offended them, in contravention of the rights and laws of the nations of the offenders. These “good muslims” then backed their demands, with threats, with intimidation, with violence.
As for the screams of anti-semitism, they would be just that. Screams. No burning, no rioting, no fatwas. An image of a rabbi with a bomb in his hat would indeed be jarring. We don’t see jews from the Tel Aviv Martyrs Brigade wandering into crowds of muslim women and children and blowing themselves up. There is no obvious connection to this type of act and a bomb in the hat of a jewish or Christian clerical figure. Would that Islam could claim the same.
“Provocative” pictures? More like “enlightening” for those who haven’t been paying attention. They simply do not compare to the Holocaust. Drawings do not equal the deliberate acts of madmen who set out to exterminate all members of an entire religion simply because they exist. For the record, I don’t support those laws. Adequate education and regular memorial should address those who would deny the history. The survivors aren’t going to let anyone forget anyway.

The “Deliberate provocation” argument isn’t going to get it done either. The cartoons were published months ago. They were published months ago in an Egyptian paper. It wasn’t until a muslim cleric added 3 more cartoons, and shopped the 15 around the muslim world that the flames started burning.
It has already been adequately addressed. There is only one civilization at the table, here. The other party is a death cult. It is a battle for survival, and when the full realization comes to the civilization, I wouldn’t give two twitches of a fish out of water for the Islamic world’s continued existence on this planet.
Democracy doesn’t equal corruption, nor did it create it. Take people from birth, Ceaselessly indoctrinate them that questioning authority, especially religious authority is bad? Now that’s a surefire recipe for corruption.
The religion of Islam IS a violent religion. The faith demands it. History shows it. Current events prove it. It doesn’t matter what we in the West do. We have committed the unpardonable sin of refusing to bow down to Islam. To accept its teachings. To embrace the madness. Therefore, we are simply obstacles to be removed. And they are working on it. One act of violence at a time.
