Apparently the biggest set of swinging brass balls just blew away a fellow hunter.

Hah.

Everybody knows that The Cheney™ doesn’t do anything by “accident.”

Obviously, the fact that the old guy that he winged is still breathing has contributed to the confusion, but that’s just because they don’t know how Dick delivers a “friendly warning.”

Fun aside, we hope that the oldster pulls through.

A few prayers on his behalf wouldn’t be amiss.

Oh, fuck yeah. kerry knows how to handle a weapon, all right - about as well as he can catch a football, throw a baseball, ride a snowboard or do anything else that requires a modicum of agility. His first fraudulent Purple Heart came as a result of nearly blowing himself up with a round from his own M79 grenade launcher after he fired at nothing more than shadows in the night. He got lucky on that one, though. A single shard of fragmentation stuck in his arm and he was able to keep it there by covering it with a band-aid until he could have it documented and “surgically removed” by a doctor who picked it out with his fingers.

His second, equally fraudulent, award came after he used that terrific arm of his to throw a grenade into a storage vat of rice and came away with an ass full of rice shrapnel for his efforts.

All things considered, I’ll take my chances with “Chicken Hawk” Cheney - and I guess you will too - for at least the next three years.

    Whittington screwed up.

He darted out into the brush in front of Cheney and the other hunter without signaling or announcing himself to retrieve a bird he had shot previously.

    From the AP via MSNBC

Katharine Armstrong, the ranch’s owner, told The Associated Press that the accident occurred after Cheney, Whittington and another hunter got out of a car to shoot at a covey of quail.

She said Whittington went to retrieve a bird he shot. Cheney and the third hunter, whom she would not identify, walked to another spot and discovered a second covey of quail.

Whittington “came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn’t signal them or indicate to them or announce himself(emphasis mine),” said Armstrong, who was in the car.

“The vice president didn’t see him,” she said. “The covey flushed and the vice president picked out a bird and was following it and shot. And by god, Harry was in the line of fire and got peppered pretty good.”

Armstrong said the shotgun pellets broke the skin.

“It knocked him silly. But he was fine. He was talking. His eyes were open. It didn’t get in his eyes or anything like that,” she said.

  32. Mike M Comment by Mike M UNITED STATES

A point of clarification is in order on my previous remark. It wasn’t meant in any way to denigrate the service of anyone whoever served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Their contribution to the overall effort was every bit as important as anyone else. Most who were actually involved don’t make a big deal of it, regardless of their assignment - but, like John Kerry, there is the occasional exception to the rule.

Our :koolaid: - drinking friends on the other side of the political fence have been claiming for years that Cheney has a taste for “hunting” his fellow man. Check out this hysterical moonbat claim, courtesy of Ace at Ace of Spades:

In order to truly understand how despicable and repulsive Cheney and his schemes actually are, we must revisit the past before we continue. A CFR member; Cheney was Chief of Staff to Gerald Ford, Secretary of Defense to George Herbert Bush, and Wyoming’s only Congressman. There is a hunting lodge near Greybull, Wyoming where Dickie Dearest was obsessed with “A Most Dangerous Game” (human hunting) and addicted to the thrill of the sport of traumatizing his victims while satisfying his sick perversions. Although this “game” was devised to condition military personnel in survival and combat maneuvers, it was used on Cathy O’Brien and other slaves as a means to further conditioning of the mind to the realization there was no place to hide, as well as traumatization for ensuing programming. According to Cathy, this game had numerous variations on the primary theme of being stripped of clothing, turned loose in wilderness areas which were enclosed in secure military fencing, and hunted by men and dogs until caught, raped, and tortured. This is our Vice President!

    :cuckoo:

(”We’d like to make it clear,” notes Ace in a superfluous editor’s note, “that these allegations are just that, allegations, and are not proven by anything more than testimony.”)

…Ace also notes that shortly after the shooting, Cheney allegedly commandeered a 1999 Ford Mustang and embarked “on an impromptu barnstorming tour of seven western states.”

Most veterans don’t make a big song and dance act out of their service, but liberal vets generally do. Thankfully, there aren’t all that many of them, so the level of nausea-inducing braggery is generally kept at a tolerable level.

Fuckface, on the other hand, turned his prior service into a standup comedy routine. Once you do that, it’s not unreasonable for people to start looking into the actual facts which, unfortunately for Fuckface, didn’t quite correlate with his wild claims of heroism.

Honestly, if he hadn’t been braying about his heroic exploits every time he could get within shouting distance of a microphone, I wouldn’t have given a shit about what he did or didn’t do in the service. I know this because it wasn’t until he started ending every sentence with “by the way, I served in Viet Nam” that I even heard about his “illustrious” record.

If he’d kept his trap shut (like Bush 41, who didn’t walk around bragging daily about his career as a torpedo bomber pilot during WWII), there wouldn’t have been an issue.

Either they talk about their military service to protect against being called cowards because of their politics and you guys call them classless, or they don’t talk about it and they’re cowards who have no idea what they’re talking about.

Meanwhile “conservatives” like Bush get a free pass as they send other people’s children to die in a war when he wouldn’t go himself and wouldn’t send his own children, either. “The Evil Neocons Made Me Do It!”

Spoken like a true liberal. It’s always somebody else’s fault when you make a complete ass of yourself.

Contrary to popular belief, I’m really not one little bit interested in the military record of people running for office. Much as Robert Heinlein’s model society has going for it, I’m just not comfortable with making military service a requirement for office.

Yes, I do consider a candidate’s stance on national security issues as well as the issue of the use of military force vitally interesting, but dusting off your military record (or, as is the case with Fuckface, making up tall tales while refusing to publish your records) isn’t going to cut it. I don’t care if you served in every war since the Revolutionary one. If every word issuing forth from your mouth when asked to address current issues is one of appeasement and surrender, you just lost my vote.

You’d have to be a liberal to think that a military record could make up for that kind of shit. Or how about McCain? He’s not a liberal (although he sounds like one at times), but his exemplary military record doesn’t do jack squat to make up for his hideous, treasonous, un-Constitutional behavior today. Now there’s a true war hero whose record I don’t give a shit for either.

Besides, as you may have noted, McCain doesn’t walk around waving HIS record like a shield from criticism.

Funny how that works, isn’t it?

There’s no way for liberals to win, is there?

Not unless they change their policies, because it’s their policies that I vote against.

Again: I don’t care what they did or did not do in uniform. What I care about is what they intend to do now.

Either they talk about their military service to protect against being called cowards because of their politics and you guys call them classless, or they don’t talk about it and they’re cowards who have no idea what they’re talking about.

You really are a special kind of obtuse, aren’t you?

My primary problem with Fuckface’s bragging wasn’t that it was “classless”, though it certainly was, but that it was ALL LIES!

If he’d come out and given an accurate account of what he did, I wouldn’t have given a damn. Well, other than wondering what the fuck THAT had to do with the price of tea in China.

    I. DON’T. CARE!

As to the second part of your “argument”, take a deep breath and think back.

Who is it that constantly harps on about how somebody is unfit for the job because he never served in the Armed Forces?

    Hint: It’s not conservatives.

BECAUSE CONSERVATIVES DON’T GIVE A GOOD SHIT!

Meanwhile “conservatives” like Bush get a free pass as they send other people’s children to die in a war when he wouldn’t go himself and wouldn’t send his own children, either. Just like the rest of the Republican leadership who think the war is a fine cause for other people’s children to die for.

Obviously the whole concept of a volunteer army continues to elude your feeble grasp on reality, so I won’t even touch that one.

However, the only reason he “gets a free pass” on his military service is, and I repeat:

BECAUSE CONSERVATIVES DON’T GIVE A GOOD SHIT! IT’S IRRELEVANT!

Now, if you’d prefer a military meritocracy where only former Generalissimos stand a chance of getting, er, “elected”, I have it on good authority that several such nations exist around the world. Feel free to leave at a time of your choosing.

Spike, please put down the :koolaid: and back away slowly.

There’s no way for liberals to win, is there?

Not if you, like John Kerry, base your entire campaign on inflated descriptions of your three-month-long war record while attacking your political opponent as a deserter and (as you put it) the “Pretender in Chief.” When he started attacking President Bush’s service in the Texas ANG - which he did from the very start of his campaign - he made his own service record, including the self-inflicted wounds and the “Christmas in Cambodia” fabrications, fair game.

Either (liberals) talk about their military service to protect against being called cowards because of their politics and you guys call them classless, or they don’t talk about it and they’re cowards who have no idea what they’re talking about.

In Kerry’s case, we call him “classless” - and worse - because he came home from Vietnam and launched his political career by defaming his fellow veterans as a pack of babykilling rapists and torturers comparable to the rampaging hordes of Ghenghis Khan. He also volunteered his services as a “peace negotiator” for the vicious butchers of Communist North Vietnam while we were still fighting them.

And then Kerry had the gall to demand we respect him for his service to his country and his war record. I don’t know of any “conservative” who’s called Kerry a coward. Chickenshit, maybe, but not a coward.

Come to think about it, Benedict Arnold was a war hero, too…

As far as “not having any idea what (he) was talking about,” Kerry ably demonstrated that as well during his quarter-century in the US Senate, when he consistently voted to weaken our military and intelligence-gathering capabilities. Kerry also ably demonstrated that during the campaign, in which he railed against President Bush for “not reaching out to our allies” regarding the Iraq situation and the War on Terror, while simaltenously deriding our existing allies as “a coalition of the coerced and the bribed.” He singlehandedly derailed multilateral diplomacy with North Korea over its pursuit of nukes by promising to cut out our allies and talk directly to Pyongyang; those talks have been stalled ever since. And his bright idea to deal with Iran’s pursuit of nukes was to give Iran enriched uranium.

Meanwhile “conservatives” like Bush get a free pass as they send other people’s children to die in a war when he wouldn’t go himself and wouldn’t send his own children, either.

You ignore the fact that Bush volunteered for Vietnam service in 1970 and 1971, but was turned down because we were winding down our military presence there. And sending “other peoples’ children” to war is part of the Presidential job description…and come to think about, the draft-dodging Bill Clinton got a “free pass” from people like yourself for refusing to serve his country in the military.

Interesting how dodging the draft is portrayed by liberals as an act of courage, while flying fighter jets with unstable aerodynamics in the National Guard is defined as cowardice and desertion.

You said it, Spike: there’s no way for liberals to win.

    Now kindly :stfu:.

No need to apologize Mike M.

Thanks, Joe D, but my words were very poorly chosen and I regret their implication. Without belittling their overall contribution, I was trying to say that anyone who would actually trumpet an off shore assignment as a Vietnam tour of duty leaves himself open to scorn and valid criticism. During the second half of my enlistment in ‘68 and ‘69 I served in the Marine Detachment on an aircraft carrier (not an attack carrier, a CVS). For several months we “bobbed around in the Gulf of Tonkin”. Everybody on that ship did his job and even though the Vietnam service ribbons were authorized, nobody - Sailors or Marines - called it a Vietnam tour of duty; it was a WesPac Cruise. And the monthly liberty visits to various Asian ports were spectacular!

Note what the USS Gridley crew members had to say about their “tour”:

As everyone must surely know by now, John F. Kerry came on board GRIDLEY as a boot Ensign when we returned from our 1967 Westpac Cruise. He remained on GRIDLEY through the 1968 cruise.

Anyone who rises far enough in politics to get to sit in the BIG CHAIR and make the BIG decisions for a while does not deserve to take any shit from anyone on the whole “It’s easy to send other people’s kids to die when you didn’t serve or do the right kind of service” line. When you are on that level, most decisions have life or death consequences for someone, albeit directly on indirectly. Everyone who has to sit in that chair knows and understands it. Sometimes, they also have to make that decision KNOWING that they are sending people to die. If they make that choice, they believe that they are doing so for the good of the nation. Whether that is actually the case is a legitimate debate, but to imply that is an easy decision for anyone is reprehensible. It is also a whole lot harder to justify in light of the fact that our forces are ALL VOLUNTEER. Nobody hid the ball. Our country has been using the military to implement policy decision almost from inception. Even so, it is certainly obvious that we’d have to see something a whole lot worse than 9/11 to get these clowns to stop honking their noses around the people working to make this country secure. Much like other institutions such as the NAACP, the UAW, the ACLU, etc., these people will manufacture an issue, or make a mountain out of a molehill to justify their continued presence on society’s stage when circumstances no longer warrant’s it. Join the 21st Century, and get a cause, losers.

I just realized that the most important question of this incident has not been addressed:

Did Cheney bag the quail that tried to murder Harry Whittington?

    Poor little moonbats.

They awoke from their bong induced slumber and when they saw blaring headlines like “Cheney guns down innocent man! all over the MSM, they clapped their little paws together with glee, figuring that they “finally got him!”.

But like every other “scandal”, it turned out to be nothing but overblown hype, leaving the little moonbats to nibble on their tofu while whimpering about “”Kerry the war hero” and grumbling about “Rovian conspiracies”…
