While The American Lamestream Media Are Cowering Under Their Desks…

…a dozen European writers, journalists and intellectuals, Salman Rushdie among them, have decided to stand up and be counted (thanks to LC TomP and LC & IB Jay of Stop the ACLU):
After having overcome fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism, the world now faces a new totalitarian global threat: Islamism.
We, writers, journalists, intellectuals, call for resistance to religious totalitarianism and for the promotion of freedom, equal opportunity and secular values for all.The recent events, which occurred after the publication of drawings of Muhammed in European newspapers, have revealed the necessity of the struggle for these universal values. This struggle will not be won by arms, but in the ideological field. It is not a clash of civilisations nor an antagonism of West and East that we are witnessing, but a global struggle that confronts democrats and theocrats.
Like all totalitarianisms, Islamism is nurtured by fears and frustrations. The hate preachers bet on these feelings in order to form battalions destined to impose a liberticidal and unegalitarian world. But we clearly and firmly state: nothing, not even despair, justifies the choice of obscurantism, totalitarianism and hatred. Islamism is a reactionary ideology which kills equality, freedom and secularism wherever it is present. Its success can only lead to a world of domination: man’s domination of woman, the Islamists’ domination of all the others. To counter this, we must assure universal rights to oppressed or discriminated people.
We reject « cultural relativism », which consists in accepting that men and women of Muslim culture should be deprived of the right to equality, freedom and secular values in the name of respect for cultures and traditions. We refuse to renounce our critical spirit out of fear of being accused of “Islamophobia”, an unfortunate concept which confuses criticism of Islam as a religion with stigmatisation of its believers.
We plead for the universality of freedom of expression, so that a critical spirit may be exercised on all continents, against all abuses and all dogmas.
We appeal to democrats and free spirits of all countries that our century should be one of Enlightenment, not of obscurantism.

Maybe one day, once the journaljizzmers of the U.S. Dhimmimedia locate their balls (they’re in a jar at CAIR’s headquarter, to save you some time if you decide to go looking)…
Nah, won’t ever happen.
It’s a good thing that there are people who run actual risks by publishing stuff like the above who aren’t as afraid of their own shadows and eager to submit to medieval murderers and vandals as the feckless fizzlebrains of our U.S. newsrooms.
We’ll take that dozen over every single soul working for the MSM.
Bravo!
I stand with you, proudly and without reservation.

It’s about time some well-known writers started speaking out about this outrage! I was reading about this over at Agora and was going to give His Majesty a tip here, but as usual he was right on top of it :D.

February 28th, 2006 at 11:09 pmIt’s small sparks like this that can set a greater blaze. I hope their message sends seismic ripples throughout the world. I expect our media to be deliberately deaf to the call. Our lamestream media isn’t fit to mop the floors. If its not about gay sheepherders, the opportunity to bash Republicans and our military, or demonize Christians and all things religious, or placate to Muslims then they’re not interested. The future of our news is blogs, talk radio and Fox news. To hell with our depraved-spineless-seditious media.
February 28th, 2006 at 11:29 pmThe liberal media has no principles, no ideals. People with no ideals have no courage.

Manifesto Against Islam…
Solidarity. The 12 people who wrote and signed this document know very well the risk they take. We need to send a clear message that they don’t stand alone….
March 1st, 2006 at 12:34 amWhy has it taken this long? Any student of history knows that the West is the light of this world. Unfortunately or “intellectuals” don’t seem to read much these days.

March 1st, 2006 at 12:57 pmI thought rejection of cultural relativism and a steadfast refusal to capitulate to the forces of stoopid and and splodeydopism were requirements of citizenship in the Empire. It should go without saying that we stand with them. I only hope the MSM gossip pedlers and controversy manufacturers are getting the memo.

Indeed. It remains a consummate delight watching their ratings end up in the toilet. And yes, we just don’t understand now, do we? Well, understand this. I can get more news right here than I can on one of your stinking talking head shows, or the the biased media I see and read. The bloggers are comin’ on…like it or not. Tell that to your shareholders…
March 1st, 2006 at 8:47 pmI haven’t seen him here in a a while, but RightWingProf has an excellent site that points out the mind set of universities administrations, teachers, and the students with examples that he runs into.
The blockquote above is from an article “That Aha! Moment” and gives an indication of the “thinking” of students today. There can be no absolute right or wrong, normal or abnormal.
If this is the thought process of what has been turned out over the last couple of decades. Then it is no wonder our MsM will not show any spine on this issue, they would have to judge someone….other than evil white, male, Christian Republicans.
March 1st, 2006 at 9:52 pmYou note that they couldn’t bring themselves to say Communism and settled for Stalinism…. minor quibble but otherwise good on them.

March 2nd, 2006 at 7:28 amNot quite true sir. They will always have the American Jewish banking conspiracy and evil Israeli empire to attack.

March 2nd, 2006 at 10:56 amNot all dogmas require everyone to march in lock step. Christianity alows for free will and seeks conversion through love and charity. Islam is the only major religion that requires submision from all.
