As LC Blackiswhite pointed out here, there comes a time where a fellow member of the legal profession abuses his or her privileges to the point where even professional courtesy doesn’t apply anymore.
As the Michigan rules of professional conduct, rule 1.0, state:
Scope and Applicability of Rules and Commentary: Preamble: A Lawyer’s Responsibilities
“A lawyer’s conduct should conform to the requirements of the law, both in professional service to clients and in the lawyer’s business and personal affairs, A lawyer should use the law’s procedures only for legitimate purposes and not to harrass or intimidate others…

We’re sure that the Director of Professional Standards, Michigan Bar Association, Ms. Dawn Evans, would very much appreciate a very politely worded letter alerting her to this deplorable state of affairs, so we considered it our citizen duty to do so.
I sure wouldn’t want to be associated with somebody giving the legal profession a bad name like Debbie Schlussel is.

To put it in simpler terms: an off-duty police officer is not allowed to point his gun at you so he can cut in line at Dunkin Donuts.
In Schlussel’s defense: she’s completely out of her intellectual depth when it comes to blogging. This is a woman who obviously depended heavily on editors to not only ensure the readability of her material (her posts are terrible, and her extemporaneous comments are simply atrocious), but also relied upon them to restrain her impulse to shoot first and ask questions later.
I’ve tried to take a conciliatory tone with Schlussel in the past, and I know she knows this because I noted her broomstick hovering over my site after taking off from Southfield, Michigan, referred by her password-protected sitemeter.

1) Coming in with snide remarks and squealing about people making fun of someone’s looks isn’t a very good way to “make friends and influence people” around here.
If you think this thread is bad, you should see some of the Helen Thomas, Michael Moore and Ted Kennedy threads….
2) Misha pretty much lets the comments on his threads run their own course. It’s his style of running things and I daresay it’s one of the key reasons for this blog’s popularity.
3) Acting as some sort of self- proclaimed moderator is a virtual guarantee to get targeted for a flame war. You don’t want any part of that, trust me. Especially since we’ve run off so many trolls, the LC’s and GLORs are always on the lookout to engage in target practice to keep up their “flaming profinciency”. Besides, it’s Misha’s blog and if he doesn’t have a problem with comments “criticizing people’s looks”, then neither should you. After all, he’s the one “paying the bills”.
4) Sucking up to Misha will not afford you any protection from a potential flame war should you become too strident in your criticisms of the LCs and GLORs. Misha will let you “sink or swim” on your own.
There was one notable character awhile back who assumed that sucking up like a Hoover vacuum cleaner would afford him “protected status” only to find himself beaten like a red-headed stepchild (in a flame-war sense) for his incessant complaining about LCs criticizing people’s looks, any improper spelling, etc. etc. While The Emperor wasn’t thrilled with the savage beating he received, he let matters follow their own course and the certain notable character hasn’t been heard from in months. I’m sure he’s still curled up under his computer desk, whimpering about all us “bullies who always pick on people who practice pedophilia and beastiality”. (The long-time LCs and GLORs should know who I’m talking about from my not so subtle hint. :lol:)
This isn’t meant as an attack but rather a courtesy “head’s up” so you can avoid any potential “unpleasantness” in the future.

There is a light source behind the camera to the right. It looks like the photo was done in a television studio, so the light could be either continuous HDI, or photo strobe. The photo of La Schlussel could hardly be less flattering. I don’t know what happened to her hair: it appears the pixels are “blocked”, either as a result of a low res JPEG conversion or someone tweaking the yellow saturation way up. It looks like the lighting color temperature is higher than what the camera is set for, so the pic skin tones are pale and awful.

When a person is just ugly, it’s not a very effectice argument to glom onto their looks rather than what they have said. However, when a person makes his or her looks an issue, there is nothing wrong with addressing that as an issue.
No, the fact D.S. may strongly resemble a melting wax statuette of artificially enhanced pulchritude is not why most of us have no respect for her. We’ve already discussed her inability to hold her own in the arena she’s entered, ad nauseum. It’s become a moot point that she appears to be an intellectual midget with delusions of grandeur. We can also appreciate the humor in such a vain woman who happens to be painfully unattractive.
