We damn near burst our collective cranial veins when we read the following article in the dead tree edition of the Tampa Trib yesterday. (We’ll post the whole thing, since it’ll be archived within a day or so. All emphasis ours.—B.)
MEXICO CITY - U.S. citizens want to stop illegal migrants from entering their country because they are racist, according to 43 percent of Mexicans interviewed for a poll published Thursday.
An additional 70 percent said they think Mexicans emigrate to the United States because of a lack of jobs in Mexico, and 79 percent said they would be in favor of legalizing millions of undocumented migrants in the United States.
The poll was sponsored by the Mexican newspaper El Universal and The Dallas Morning News . It was conducted through interviews with 1,491 adults April 5-8 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
Also, 76 percent of the poll’s respondents said it should not be a crime to remain in the United States without documents , and 89 percent did not think a wall would help stop migration.

The remaining 30% believe Mexicans are coming here to mule drugs, commit crimes, receive free medical care and to advocate for the overthrow of our country. And they’re right too.
I’m in favor of that too. And the quickest, easiest way for them to obtain legal status would be for them to leave the United States and return home.
If you’re talking about Monarch butterflies, probably not. I’d bet your typical bipedal border breacher might find a wall a significant impediment though.
100% of NAMBLA’s members don’t think it should be a crime to bugger little boys either.

At my day job, (steel plant), I work with two gentlemen from Mexico, both of whom retain their Mexican citizenship. Both were resident aliens who came to this country in the 70’s, both have since obtained US citizenship, while retaining their Mexican citizenships.
Both have some VERY uncomplimentary things to say about illegals. Basically, their attitudes can be summed up as, “I did what it took to come here legally, I got my citizenship, I paid my taxes, these people can do the same thing, or they can stay home!”

b.) That I owe these ILLEGAL aliens something (Like a job, a place to live, medical care, social services), only they don’t seem to want the responsibilities that go with membership (taxes, insurance, etc.)
They are here ILLEGALLY. The “debate” should start and stop there.

Mexican flag burnings would be a festive touch. The anti-Americanism of Mexico is a manifestation of their own shame at the incompetence of their government.
I’m not much in favor of shooting harmless illegals just seeking a better life. Ask yourself if you would want into America if you were some poor illiterate peon with no job and a family to feed? I would deport them WITHOUT hearing. Enter legally or STFU. OTOH if they are violent criminals, I would have no compunction shooting them on the spot. This definitely includes the smugglers and their Mexican Army escorts.
There was an article recently about border security and how to get the most bang for our buck. The thesis was walls and sensors in densely populated areas. In rural areas, observation balloons with slaved FLIR sensors could detect bad guys forming up for a border crossing from miles deep in Mexico, and vector either law enfarcement (pun intended) or the military onto the threat. The cops have no business mixing it up with Mexican Army troops. Bring down the gunships on their asses.
