This is a test post for the purpose of troubleshooting a comment problem. It is here to demonstrate to some people the issue we are having when you go into editing a comment.

Feel free to comment, and if you have the ability to edit — do so.

This is an issue that popped up with the new upgrade of WP 2.0.3.

[Update: In the time it took me to drive from Portland Oregon here to Lynnwood Washington, the fine samaritans at the support forum of WordPress had it all figured out for me. Tempus Fugit has a plugin called WordPress 2.0.3 Tuneup (kinda strange to have a “tuneup” right after an “upgrade” that fixes some annoying bugs in the new upgrade.] — DJ

They\’re here. Aren\’t we special? Isn\’t this the way things are supposed to be?

\”Up is down and sideways is straight ahead\”, said the man.

Can\’t you understand what is happening?

Now I have gone in to edit the comment…

Yeah, Dave, I kept getting even more \\’s with each edit of that post yesterday. Thanks for working your ass off keeping the place up and humming along.

My original comment looked like this:

They’re here. Aren’t we special? Isn’t this the way things are supposed to be?

”Up is down and sideways is straight ahead”, said the man.

Can’t you understand what is happening?

When you initially post the comment, it displays alright. It is only when you go back in through the edit does it change…

    What, me, comment?

Well, I can’t edit it. At least I doubt I can. Unless you can edit your own. Doesn’t have anything to do with links, does it? Just checkin’.

There’s always formatting. Have at it. Edit away. Have a lovely time.

    Great.

    Right then.

    Cheerio.

    Hasta la vista.

Somebody forgot to add a stripslashes() function, looks like.

I did the upgrade thing and it trashed my blog. I was emailing hosting matters back and forth for almost 24 hours before it got fixed.

Stacy rocks, btw. Once it got to her, she had everything up and running in less than thirty minutes.

I am sitting right across from my son, who is responsible for the IE 7 project. Thanks to him, I am futzing around with the new Office 2007 beta and not liking it one bit.

That would be him, over the partition, working on some more malicious code for you to complain about later…

Thanks, and one of these days you’ve GOT to tell me how you do it!

Actually, I didn’t do anything on this, other than post this entry, and then use it as an example on the WordPress Support Forum. Since I didn’t write the code for the update, I thought that someone else who did might be able to help — and someone did. All I did was upload and activate a plugin to fix the problem.

Jeebus, Dave. How the Hell is Kalifornistan supposed to buy any electricity from y’all if you keep sucking up 3/4 of the power the state produces?

  31. DJ Allyn, ITW Comment by DJ Allyn, ITW UNITED STATES

Well, considering I live in Washington, and most of our power is derived from hydoelectric plants, I don’t see where there is a problem. We have more than enough to supply to California.

The “shortage” in California wasn’t due to a lack of production, it was a manipulation of supply brought on by deregulation.

  32. LC HJ Caveman82952 Comment by LC HJ Caveman82952 UNITED STATES

I hear ya’, DJ…here in Kalifornia it was indeed a debacle. My power bills tripled for a time. But if we can get the scam artists in jail and let the rest fairly compete…Gawd. Something that happened to me two summers ago……..after deregulation, the first thing that was done was mantenance being cut. We had more power failures during that year than previously during my entire life. But what truly infuriated me……..and let me fire a shot across the verbal bow…on old ninety-six year old woman used to live across the street. I and others used to look after her, changing light bulbs, that sort of thing. A wonderful old gal, my family would sit on her front porch summer nights and listen to tales of old. But during one hundred and five degree day I was standing in my living room, suddenly the lights dimming, the TV pic shrinking, motors laboring. Yelling to my wife and daughter to shut off all electic motors…a big time voltage drop. I had never seen that before, knowing motors will take amps if they can’t get volts. Starts fires and stuff.
My daughter ran back to our house yelling how Ruth’s life support had shut down. PG&E no help, said get her to a hospital. Yeah right, you ever hold your breath for fifteen minutes? Assuming you drive ninety miles per hour? It had been a long time since I moved this fast, running to my garage, lugging one of my generators across the street, feverishly hooking it up, running a cord, a srewdriver driven into the earth for a ground, closing the circuit with a wish and a prayer……..and it worked. Some nurses showed up an hour later with some oxygen bottles. Me sweltering in the sun baby sitting my generator, making sure her life support and a floor fan kept running. The power was restored some hour later.
I sent the power company a terse letter….like if you guys can’t get your shit together maybe, just maybe, you would like utilities publicly owned? And I want to see Ken Lay busting rocks……
Since then, I am pleased to note, Kalifornia seems to be working things out…service has improved and they are making a profit…once they got the predators out.

  33. DJ Allyn, ITW Comment by DJ Allyn, ITW UNITED STATES

Perhaps you should question what went on in a meeting between convicted junk bond king, Micheal Milken, convicted Enron CEO, Kenny-Boy Lay, and your current Guvenator, Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Penninsula Hotel in 2001.

Did Auhnold excuse billions of dollars in debt in exchange for his recall/election bid?

If you ever get the chance, go and rent the movie, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room at Blockbuster. It is a real eye-opener.

  34. LC HJ Caveman82952 Comment by LC HJ Caveman82952 UNITED STATES

Fortunately I didn’t vote for Ahnold. I voted for McClintock, a true conservative. Yeah, I heard about that…….and I saw some of the transcripts from Enron…….thinking about an old woman gasping like a fish while those bastards…aww, don’t get me started……

  35. DJ Allyn, ITW Comment by DJ Allyn, ITW UNITED STATES

The fix was in, and McClintock didn’t have a chance against Auhnuld and Kenny-Boy’s money. A deal was made at that hotel in 2001 that not only cost California dearly in excused overcharges, but also gave you the Gropinator.

Any bets as to how many days after the official release that the first major bug is detected and then on how many days after that patch/bugfix/etc comes out.

Any bets as to how many days after the official release that the first major bug is detected and then on how many days after that patch/bugfix/etc comes out.

That’s easy. IE7 is in its public beta 2 right now, I am using the beta 3 and there are still bugs.
