TORONTO - Canadian authorities said Saturday they had foiled plans for terrorist attacks in southern Ontario with the arrests of 17 people who were “inspired by al-Qaida.”
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they had arrested 12 male adults and five youths on terrorism-related charges, including plotting attacks with explosives on Canadian targets. The suspects were either citizens or residents of Canada and had trained together, they said.
You’ll notice that nowhere in the description of these Kulturally Konfused Koranimals™ is their ethnicity or religious affiliation mentioned.
“This group took steps to acquire three tons of ammonium nitrate and other components necessary to create explosive devices,” said assistant Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner Mike McDonell.
That is three times the amount used to blow up the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, he said, referring to the April 19, 1995, attack that killed 168 people and injured more than 800.

“The men arrested yesterday are Canadian residents from a variety of backgrounds. For various reasons, they appeared to have become adherents of a violent ideology inspired by al-Qaida,” said Luc Portelance, the assistant director of operations with CSIS — Canada’s spy agency.

1. The southwest border is a hot button issue because of illegals crossing at will and compared to the northern border is “heavily monitored” ..meanwhile up north, no-one is really watching as closely…classic military tactic is to engage an enemey where he least expects it…
2. Canada has far more Muslim presence due to rather lax immigration practices and a more robost economy in which to live un noticed while plotting an attack.
3. Terror is cheap but you still need to be able to afford to live while planning the acts. Go to Mexico where employment is atronomical and wages way below the rest of the hempishphere…or Canada with it’s large array of socialized programs and decent oppurtunity to find a job for cover?

One thing I will say about the Canadian military, is that despite the country being neutered and the military as a whole is totally insufficient, we have a really, really highly trained array of soldiers. The only thing you’d notice different from our soldiers to the US ones is the flag on the uniform.
June 3rd, 2006 at 3:13 pmWhile I totally agree with the US’s general opinion of this country, one thing that can be said is the Canadian military has fought alongside the US’s since WW2. You all might recall the record held by a Canadian sniper in Afghanistan - using a canadian rifle with US bullets in it - he took out a taliban at 1500 metres. Our guys have the skills, just not the gov’t to back them up due to years of liberal rot and socialist self-righteousness.
We didn’t go to Iraq to help since our prime minister was french liberal. I agreed at the time, since I didn’t think (and still don’t) iraqis were worth western blood being spilled…but I now think more countries, including mine, should be helping more in iraq. I have a couple of friends in the RCMP who are over in the middle east training Iraqi police.
We need to train the iraqi police to be ruthless, aim them at the enemy, and bring our troops home. No muslim society is worth a drop more of their blood. We just have to make sure the militant muslims don’t get too organized in iraq.
Sure there is Stephan, they all live in canada. Good a reason to profile as any.

I watched an interview on the CBC with him several years ago and was impressed by him. I remember thinking that this guy will never get elected, and I was both surprised and pleased that he was. Does he still appear to be keeping with his Conservative agenda now that he’s in office? I’m aware of the excellence historically of Canada’s military. Too bad the services have not been given the support they need.

Just watch how canadians handle these recent arrests. To hell with the potential victims, it will be all about what caused these ‘visible minorities’ to be so upset. Anyone pointing a finger directly at the hate that their religion and culture bring about will be called right-wing extremists and be compared to Bush.
BTW, the intended target would most likely be a tourist attraction like the CN Tower or Air Canada Centre. These guys are obviously too young and stupid to dare an attack on the US embassy, not to mention too cowardly.

Talk about denial, I live in socialist Manhattan just north of where the WTC attack took place. There’s still an enormous crater.
