Well, it may not be, but something I read in the comments to this post certainly made a lot of things seem logical all of a sudden:

If you were the main driving force to pullout of Somalia, as Murtha was, and then you hear bin Laden say that your actions were the impetus for 9/11, what would you do?

Denial would cause you to keep making the same mistake. To do otherwise would be to accept responsibility. Murtha wants to believe he was right back then because a man would commit suicide if he allowed himself to believe for a moment that his actions were the impetus for 9/11.

It’s got to haunt him. To make matters worse, didn’t United 93 crash in his district? Those people died heroes for facing the very same evil that Murtha enabled by failing to face it.

Never thought of that, but he’s right.

Heaven knows that I would fall on my sword if I couldn’t look at the Towers on fire without hearing 3,000 voices shouting “you did this, you aided and abetted this, you encouraged this, our blood is, in part, on your hands.”

Either that or go batshit, raving mad.

Then Murtha should do that, he SHOULD fall on his sword, at the very least symbolically. He should admit how horrifically, catastrophically wrong he was about pulling out of Somalia, apologize to the nation with every drop of sincere repentance in his entire body, step down from public office PERMANENTLY, and bankrupt himself of $ and sleep trying to help those he had hurt with his arrogant ‘I know best’ ignorance.
    For starters.

Instead, his narcissism makes him battle to prove he WAS right, by doing the same wrong thing AGAIN!?! With even worse lethal conscequences!!! That’s…it stinks of a level of hubris beyond my ability to comprehend.

Couldn’t agree more though; this angle does provide a logical missing piece to the puzzle of why he would act so traitorously. I was pondering an inoperable brain tumor, or brainwashing, but each of those makes him the victim, which doesn’t sit right.

This explanation fits his massive ego much, much better.

We fought a defensive war in Korea, a war without a clear objective in Vietnam and won the battles but lost the war, took no action against Iran when they took the embassy and hostages, took no action when the terrorists suicide bombed the Marine barracks in Lebanon and killed over 200 Marines, refused to follow through and take out Saddam Hussein to properly end the Gulf War, pulled out of Somalia, took no action against anyone at any time for any attack on Americans until the 9-11 attacks..gotdam! If we as a society and voters allowed all this to happen why should bin Laden not think that we as a society are a bunch of pussies and push overs. He found that he thought wrong and is on the run now but everyone that did not raise hell with the politicians over the past fuck-ups is as guilty as Murtha. And Murtha should be feeling guilty for being a gutless politician more worried about getting the vote than doing what is right for the country.

Well now, Murtha is like most liberals and liberal Democrats, a man of questionable substance…

Funny thing how Murtha’s supporters push his war record (sounds familiar, right?) as a Marine who was awarded medals…

What I wonder is just how many have questioned this?

Maybe we should since it speaks to Murtha’s character

After all we do remember that Murtha’s “reported role as an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Abscam bribery scandal of the late 1970s and early 1980s“, right?

Note the words of Don Baily in a letter to Jack Murtha: “You clearly indicated to me in a moment of weakness, that you hadn’t deserved the purple hearts and there was no confusion on that. You may deny that all you wish - but you and I know that that conversation took place. Please apologize now. You may fool a few reporters into believing that merely because you got some perfunctory paperwork made out by a friend, that that means you earned the purple hearts.“…

CNSNews found out the following: “However, another source, World War II Navy veteran Harry M. Fox, previously indicated that Murtha in 1968 personally asked Fox’s boss, then-U.S. Rep. John Saylor (R-Pa.), for assistance in obtaining the Purple Hearts, but was turned down because Saylor’s office determined that Murtha lacked sufficient evidence of wounds. Murtha later challenged Saylor for his House seat in 1968 and lost. Fox said he personally viewed Murtha’s military records in 1968 as Saylor’s aide“…

We must also remember that Murtha may be more than a bit nervous and hears foot steps of someone catching up to him….

President Bush the Elder sent U.S. forces into Somalia in December 1992 to aid the United Nations in relieving a massive famine. In May of 1993, four months into his term, President Clinton declared that MISSION ACCOMPLISHED and pulled out most of the U.S. force. (See how easy it is, asshole)

In a speech on the South Lawn to associate himself with the effort, he extolled the decision to intervene: “If all of you who served had not gone, it is absolutely certain that tens of thousands would have died by now.” It was a “successful mission,” he said, and “proved yet again that American leadership can help to mobilize international action.”

But back in Somalia, with no U.S. deterrent, Somalia’s warlords began fighting again. After a series of bloody attacks on U.N. peacekeepers, Mr. Clinton launched a new mission: In August 1993, he sent in a force of Rangers and Special Forces units to capture the brutal warlord Mohammad Farrah Aidid and restore order.

That force asked for heavy armour–in the form of Abrams tanks and Bradley armored vehicles–as well as the AC-130 gunship, but the Clinton Administration denied those requests. On October 3 on a mission to pick up Aidid, two Black Hawks were unexpectedly shot down; in the ensuing urban gun battle, 18 American soldiers were killed and another 73 injured.

Many military experts believe that if the U.S. forces had had armour, fewer would have died. Secretary of Defense Les Aspin resigned two months after Somalia, having acknowledged that his decision on the armour had been an error. A 1994 Senate Armed Services Committee investigation reached the same conclusion.

Mr. Clinton’s responsibility in Somalia doesn’t stop there. Despite the mistakes that October day, Aidid had been struck a blow with thousands of casualties. The U.S. military, with 18 dead, wanted nothing more than to finish what it had started. Mr. Clinton instead aborted the mission. The U.S. released the criminals it had captured that same day at such great cost, and the U.N., lacking U.S. support, was powerless to keep order.

Somalia remains a lawless, impoverished nation. Worse, the terrorists of al Qaeda interpreted the U.S. retreat from Somalia as a sign of American weakness that may have convinced them we could be induced to retreat from the Middle East if they took their attacks to the U.S. homeland.

Those are the facts. The reason Mr. Clinton can’t blame the events of “Black Hawk Down” on President Bush’s father is because those events had nothing to do with him. They were Mr. Clinton’s responsibility, and his alone.

    Now fuck off ds.

Want another example of why Dems like the Klintoons and Jack the Traitor Murtha shouldn’t ever be trusted to effectivily manage the U.S. Military?

1994 Stationed of the coast of what in Military Speak was TFY (The former Yugoslovia), cutting holes in the water on a Burke Class DDG, price tag about 1.5 billion a copy, emense amounts of fire power and state of the art Aegis combat systems all on line.

We used to get so bored out there us and the Brits started DRAG racing our ships against each other just for something to keep our selves amused. (In case you wonder who won those little regattas..the HMS ships got thier asses handed to them.. those new DDG’S can go froma Dead in the water to 30 plus knots in about a minute…LOL)

After almost 3 months of utterly uselss operations in which we acted as little more then a glorified Air Traffic Control station the red flag goes up that Saddam is amassing 100,000 on the Kuwaiti border….so what happens?

The DDG AND a full Carrier airwing are “scambled” all the way south thru the Suez south down the Red Sea around Yemen and up to the Persian Gulf…

Why? Because the Clinton administration had cut the USN budget so severly we had no asssets close enough, simply put the ships couldn’t afford to be out steaming as Navy ships are SUPPOSED to do…the closest warships the Navy had were in the Med…

Took us the better part of a week of balls to the wall steaming at flank speed to make the trip but even in a violatle are like the eastern Med / Arabian Gulf the Clintons couldn’t quite grasp the fact that not alotting the resources to cover the region was not very wise…

Little is ever said about it but at that time had Saddam re-crossed that border even though we had troops in Kuwait, the administration had also cut so deeply into the Army’s operational cabability there were simply too few troops and not enough equipment in theather, there was little if anything they could of done to fight them off….and that is a fact.

The public never really caught onto the fact that it would of been a truly nasty day for the US had Saddam not backed down….thanks of course to the Mindless Mainstream Media…

I posted this in the “other” Murtha thread but it’s relevant here, especially with those here with military backgrounds and an understanding of Washington politics - HE must go this November, the MSM must be shut down forever until they start supporting America instead of the enemy and the Left (sorry, oxymoron), and ALL who voted against putting a “timetable” on withdrawal in Congress needs to go:

(this is from his opponent’s website):

    Do you know this man?

For years, many of us throughout Pennsylvania trusted John Murtha. We knew him and he looked out for our interests and our values. But that John Murtha is missing today.

After 32 years in Washington, John Murtha has become part of the problem. To name just a few examples:

John Murtha – Wrong on Congressional Pay Raises. Since 1995, John Murtha has voted 11 straight times in favor of raising his own pay. (CQ #648, #317, #435, #289, #300, #419, #267, #322, #463, #451, and #327)
John Murtha – Wrong on Spending. John Murtha has voted multiple times to raid the social security trust fund – the key to your retirement – to pay for wasteful government spending projects.
John Murtha – Wrong on Health Care. John Murtha has voted to actually make your health care more expensive. He even voted against tax-free health savings accounts.
John Murtha – Wrong on National Defense. John Murtha actually voted to cut spending on our national security by $76 billion. Then, he voted in favor of instituting the draft! And, perhaps most stunning of all, John Murtha spoke out against the brave men and women who are defending our freedom by calling for an immediate withdrawl of our troops from Iraq.
