It is me, your ever-meddlin’ Liberal.

I am sure you all have been experiencing the ooozing speed this site tends to work at lately.  Sloths and your garden variety slugs seem to be sprinting around.

As you can see, the site looks radically different right now.  There are no plugins, and the theme is the default WordPress theme.

It is also a LOT faster.

I have taken everything back to the basics here.  All the way back.  I will be spending the next day or two evaluating each plugin and checking out the Rottie theme for issues.

I wasn’t going to say anything until it was time, but I have been working on a new theme design for the Rott, because the old one is …well, old.  The  basic code on it was written back when WP 1.5.2 was new.  There have been some major changes since then and I am sure that the architecture of the theme has areas that are waaaaaay out of date.  Up until now, I have been applying bandaids to the site each time a major update.  NOW I am completely rewriting the theme.

The site is functional this way, so you can still enjoy it.  If you experience some strangeness here from time-to-time, just wait — it will quickly pass.  Just be careful of the nails on the ground and that big gaping hole where the furnace used to be.

So let me know if you are having problems here…

In case anyone is wondering, I am busy tinkering with the performance of this site.  I realize that this is a “live site” and that anything I do here is affecting people in their normal course of reading and writing.  But it cannot be helped — I need to be live to do this, and I hope y’all just bear with me for a while.

I am adding and removing different scripts (yep, I said scripts) to see what it is that is dragging things down — if anything.  So you are going to see somethings disappear, appear, go wild, and a few other things.

I will try to be quick as I can.

[Update:  Okay, I have gone as far as I can go for now.  I will leave you with a couple of links for you to enjoy:

Okay, have a nice night.

Well, so far so good.

Hi, it’s me, your eeeevil no good fer nothin’ Tech Guy.

I have upgraded the software here, and along with it some of the plugins.  It is the next generation upgrade, going from the WP 2.2.x family to the WP 2.3.x.

There were some major framework changes in this version, including the way it handles things.  When I upgraded www.israpundit.com I had to do a major re-write because I hadn’t upgraded them in several months.  Luckily, I had recently gotten most of the stuff here, so I think I have it pretty well shaken out.

But if you have any problems, let me know.  I will try to get to them as soon as possible.  I am not my usual spry self right now, I am recuperating from major surgery last week and I spend a lot of time passed out or laying in bed with my cat watching movies.
