Right at this moment I am sitting in my room, wondering how the hell the Australian people screwed the pooch so badly.

God help us…..

John and Allen of Cox & Forkum fame (also knows as the Imperial Ministers of Satire around here) have decided to hang it up.

Sad news indeed, it’s always tough when another member of The Old Guard™ decides that enough is enough, and John and Allen were always two of my favorite members of that exclusive “club.” Nobody I know have been able to capture the political issues of the day and comment on them more efficiently than they, always managing to say more with one cartoon than any of the rest of us blowhards could express on 40 column inches.

On the other hand, having read their farewell, as you should too, I completely understand how they feel. The BlogoSphere, no matter how rewarding, and rewarding it IS, is hard work too, and it pays worse than lousily if at all, at least in terms that creditors will understand. I also know what Allen means when he speaks of “blog weariness” and having to wade through the sewers of politics every day, and it really gets to you. When you combine that with being as committed as he and John are to produce a consistently excellent output on a regular basis, then there will eventually come a time when you’ll have to decide whether your other obligations in life are being neglected. Again, the pay is lousy, life’s circumstances change and creditors will demand payment from time to time, so sometimes one will have to prioritize.

But it still sucks to lose two enormous talents like theirs.

I remember way back when, not long after Black Tuesday, when I first discovered their work. I was floored by their talent, and when they asked me if I’d be willing to use their material, free of charge, on my site I was wondering if they’d lost their minds. I should be paying for that! And it didn’t end there. After that, in return for the “favor” of me using their excellent material for free they sent me not one, but two copies of their first installment of “Black and White World”, both signed. One for reading and wearing to shreds, one for safe keeping.

We stayed in touch for a while after that, they even asked me for my opinion on some of their work once or twice and if I had any ideas I’d like to share, and I was at a loss for words. Not that I don’t think I do a half decent job at what I do, I’m pretty proud of most of it, but I could never do what they do, so to me it was kinda like getting a note from old Master William saying “yo, Mish, what do you think about Hamlet, Prince of Denmark? Any thoughts or suggestions?”

Yes, John and Allen, you’ll be missed.

Good news is that you mentioned that you just might not be able to resist putting out the occasional editorial cartoon anyway.

I intend to hold you to that.

No words… No words at all…

I just learned that Mike Hendrix of Cold Fury’s wife, Christiana, was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Words fail to come to me.

I didn’t know Christiana, but I do know Mike, and I can imagine what kind of a woman would be the love of his life. I can’t, however, even begin to imagine what Mike must be going through now.

Mike is of the Old Blogger Guard, one of the ones who kicked it all off and one of the few who are still around, and he’s always been a great friend and an enormous inspiration to me. Nobody, and I do mean nobody writes with more passion and eloquence than he does, a passion that describes everything he does. Hard-working, fun-loving, compassionate are words that all describe him perfectly, and I’m sure that they’d describe Christiana too, because Mike would never settle for anything less.

Mike, I don’t know what to say, and I know that there’s nothing I can possibly say to lessen the horrible pain you’re in right now. If there’s anything I can do, you have but to ask, my friend.

You’ve always been there for me since the time when there was only a few handfuls of us playing around on the Intertubes, exploring its possibilities and being in everybody’s face, knowing little and caring even less about where it would all lead. We were having fun, and that’s all that mattered. So when the news reached me about Christiana’s death, it was like a death in the family.

My most sincere condolences and, again, if there’s anything, anything I can do, please don’t hesitate to ask.

G-d Bless, my friend.

…I don’t know how else to describe how I feel after reading this.

Right now, I’m just stunned. Allan, or “Skipper” as he was more affectionately known, has been around for so long that I don’t even remember when exactly, and he’s been a friend of the Empire for at least as long, so learning that he is no more, that his particular style and ability to deliver precise, devastating written blows to the tender parts of Moonbats will no longer brighten my day.

I’ll miss you, Allan, I’ll miss you a lot, and you’d better keep a cold one or twelve ready for when we meet again, so that we can share the beer that I never got to share with you in this life.

My prayers go out to your two sons. May G-d give them strength and may your memory forever live in those of us who were lucky enough to know you either online or offline.

Rest in peace, my friend.

Horrible, horrible news.

As you know, Tony Snow was going back to have a small growth removed from his gut.

It turned out it was worse than they thought, the cursed thing seems to have metastasized to his liver.

Keep fighting and have a full and speedy recovery, Tony, you’re in our prayers.

(The leftards, of course, are celebrating and jerking each other off, but that’s what leftards do, the pathetic little animals).

With our condolences to the family, I would like to report the sudden passing of Empress Sofia’s Uncle.

I am the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord;
he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live;
and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.

I know that my Redeemer liveth,
and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth;
and though this body be destroyed, yet shall I see God;
whom I shall see for myself and mine eyes shall behold,
and not as a stranger.

For none of us liveth to himself,
and no man dieth to himself.
For if we live, we live unto the Lord.
and if we die, we die unto the Lord.
Whether we live, therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord;
even so saith the Spirit, for they rest from their labors.

Requiescat in Pacem, Brother.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this most difficult of times.

His Imperial Majesty just got word that John Edwards is considering suspending his campaign for U.S. President, due to a sudden recurrence of his wife’s cancer.

This is, of course, horrid news for her and her loved ones, and we pray that that most awful disease will be beaten back into remission soon.

We’re no friend of Silky Pony’s, but that’s utterly irrelevant. All that is relevant now is his wife Elizabeth’s speedy and full recovery.

(And anybody gloating or making light of this in the comments will be subject to a thorough thrashing with the Imperial ClueStick™).

Get well soon, Elizabeth, we’re sending up a good word for you with the Man Upstairs.

***UPDATE:*** Having watched the news conference, I can update by saying that this will not lead to Edwards suspending his campaign. [Here’s the link, for those of you who are curious.  -Spats] Good. Much as I’d like to see him go the way of the dodo, politically speaking, it would be horrible for his campaign to end because of this. I’m also happy to report that the cancer is apparently not widely spread and remains eminently treatable, if not curable. I don’t know about the last bit, miracles DO happen and I’ll be holding out for one regardless of what the doctors say, as I’m sure that the Edwards family will, but that’s the verdict, according to medical authorities.
