I just cannot get behind, and resent, the idea that we must be in contact 24/7.

I use all of my phones that way anymore. If it goes off, I check the number if I can. If I can’t, it’ll just have to keep ringing (or buzzing, as it were). Nothing’s so Earth-shatteringly fucking important that it can’t wait for five minutes until I can check it without dropping everything I’m doing at the time.
If the number doesn’t show up, I’ll let voice mail deal with it and I’ll call right back if it needs an answer, as soon as I’m able. The way I see it is: If it’s not important enough to leave a message over, it sure as Hell isn’t important enough for me to go out of my way to reply.]]>
