And I say that knowing full well that self-respecting rocks everywhere will be wanting to kick my arse severely for gratuitously, needlessly and unfairly insulting them like that.

I mean, just look at this clip, courtesy of the Imperial Blogsis.

Now kindly, calmly, patiently explain to me how in the name of Ba’al’s scrotal sac that, that, specimen managed to survive to teen-hood without strangling itself on its diapers, because I sure as HECK can’t imagine.

Oh, and a note to its parents: Please, please, PLEASE tell me that you didn’t breed beyond giving birth to that freakishly fatheaded abomination. I’ve seen fungi more capable of expressing a coherent thought than that numbskulled freak of nature, and fungi don’t have the right to vote.

Thinking about that two-legged fence post voting scares the SHIT out of me.

Maybe it’s just the mood I’m in, but I’m not sure whether to laugh at this girl or feel sorry for her. This sounds like the sort of thing that’s only funny when it happens to somebody else.

Judging from the transcript - I can’t get video to run properly on my ‘puter; I’ve got dialup - it looks like the interviewer threw her a rhetorical curveball, she tried to adapt a prepared response to another question to what the interviewer actually asked her, and made a total botch of it on live television.

And now she has to live with this five minutes of televised infamy for the rest of her life.

Look, not everybody has the gift of gab, especially when it comes to public speaking. Our current President is a prime example. President Bush has a MBA from Harvard, which proves that he has at least some brains, yet if he has to depart from prepared remarks during the course of a speech or press conference he suddenly can’t string together two coherent sentences. I try very hard to avoid public speaking, for pretty much the same reasons.

For that matter, how many of us sound like total idiots when we post hasty replies to something we see online and don’t bother to proofread before hitting “Enter?”

At least on this blog, Dave is trying to give us a “do-over” editing function when it comes to stupid blog comments. Politicians and beauty queens don’t have that same option.

No, B.C., it doesn’t. As far as I know, the only thing Little Miss Beauty Queen is guilty of is falling flat on her rhetorical face during a beauty pageant. I see no evidence she’s guilty of the sort of malice, arrogance and contempt for their fellow citizens that “Obama, Shrillary and the rest of the LefTards” routinely engage in.

So maybe she’s entitled to a pass this time. The LefTards - and the slutty Hollywood publicity whores like LiLo, Paris and Britney - strike me as much more deserving targets for cruel mockery than this chick.

I have to agree with Wes. That gal was coached to expect a question where she could show to the world how much she knew about the situation in Iraq and elsewhere in the world. Too bad for her and her handlers that they forgot that she might actually get a question that had nothing to do with Iraq, etc. And its very obvious that she was not able to improvise an answer in case she didn’t get the question that she was expecting. So, instead, she tried to relate what she was told to say to the question she was given, and well, did failed in the process.

With that said, god, I am so hoping she does not breed.

I despise public speaking, though I have forced myself into doing it, and with some lead in time I can pull it off without sounding to inept…or puking. :em38:

Her problem seems to stem from when she realized she lost her focus, she just kept rambling on. She had a thirty second time frame and wasted it all on nonsense, rather than taking a three second breath and reorganizing her thoughts.

The worst time for me was when I roadied for a local band at the biggest gig they had ever done. (We opened for Van Halen…circa ‘74, When they were still a local group). My guys where ready to go on stage and they turn to me and go “We need an introduction, you do it” and pushed me out on the stage. I spewed out a string of Rock’n'Roll concert cliche’s and have no idea if they made any sense. If the mike stand hadn’t been there to hang onto, I would have passed out.

I get anxious reading your post. What an awful thing to do you.

I think there is some study that shows that people would rather die than give a public speech.

I botched a toast for my best friend at her rehearsal dinner a number of years ago - thought I was completely prepared, no nerves at all, until the instant I stood up and … all the tears clogged my throat and I drew an utter blank. :em98: Finally, I blurted out something short, unmemorable and barely coherent - in no way recognizable as what I had prepared to say - just hoping the sentiment behind it made it acceptable fodder. The Best Man stood up next and gave a rollicking, witty speech that probably wiped out the memory of mine for good. I’ve gotta say though, I’m seriously glad nobody made a video of that derailment, let alone stuck it on the ‘Net. Yoikes!

I still feel badly that I didn’t do her better justice, as she’s (still) just that good of a friend. Thankfully, it mattered not one jot to anyone but myself, and they’ve been married going on 22 years this past June.

This girl’s young. And ignorant. And probably nerves blew her coordination of brain and tongue; that and all the talking points someone probably drilled her to fit into her responses. Time will tell if she continues in a similar vein, or rides her admittedly good looks alone to fame and fortune.

It’s worthy of a chuckle, a wince, and then it’s time to let it, let her, fade back into the ether, for now.

I’ve also hung people out to dry (unintentionally). When my closest friend died at 42 of a cerebral aneurysm. I gave the opening eulogy, which was easy because I had know him for 30 years, had him as a roommate in college and living in L.A., worked for his family’s company. I did fine all the way to the final two lines and started to choke up. I got them out, but finished and let the alter so quick, that my friend that was speaking next, didn’t realize I was done till I sat down next to him. He said the end of mine choked him up, so that he couldn’t remember what he wanted to say even with his crib sheets.

    Public speaking just sucks.

I just have to make my opinion known about this, because I think the way this young lady is being portrayed is pretty unfair.

First of all, some of you have met me. I am scared as hell of social situations, and I have, for all intents and purposes, become paralyzed when it has come to public speaking.

But I have forced myself into social situations at least to conquer this fear, and to also learn to forgive myself if I do sound awkward. From the little bit I have read, that is why this girl is in pageants.

I highly, highly sympathize with her, and some of us aren’t blessed with gift of gab and articulate speech at the drop of a dime. Get over yourselves. What G-d has lacked giving us, He more than makes up in other areas.

I also want to emphasize that my experience thus far with the South Carolina public education system has been very good. As some of you are aware, we moved up here from Florida where my son went to a private, Catholic school.

First of all, the Catholic school up here is at least 2 grades ahead of the school in Florida, and my son would have actually had had to go back to the 2nd grade. The public school here was at least 1/2 a grade ahead of his former school in Florida. These kids get the PACT at the end of the year, and you don’t have the bitching about it like you hear in Florida.

Just my 2 cents. I’m sure if I had to make an impromptu speech in high school, y’all would be laughing at me just as much, despite my IQ being at least 131.

Lady Heather, while I agree that nerves can completely rob someone of the capacity for coherent thought, I don’t think that this is what happened here. After watching the video, the young lady doesn’t appear to be suffering from stage fright to that extent.

I do agree with others’ assessments, however, that she had a prepared speech which was totally derailed by a question that the speech did not fit, and that she looked dumber than she probably is because she tried to reshape the speech on the fly rather than stopping and admitting she was blindsided, then trying to answer the question as it was asked.

On a side note - has anyone else taken any online IQ tests? The ones I have taken (not certified or anything) score me about 20 points higher than I scored in school. I wonder if that’s intentional, or if my thinking has changed that much, or something of both?

Kinda funny. She’s third runner up, but everyone knows who she is now. Who is the winner? Who cares? This “blunder” got this girl a lot of coverage. I hear she is getting invitations to talk shows to explain the gaffe. Is that what they mean by “dumb luck”? If she’s smart (albeit incoherent when cornered), she’ll take advantage of this to make some connections with people who could help her career down the road.
