Some curious researcher with a lot of time on his hands set out to explore the “broad consensus” regarding Glowball Wormening and started going through all research papers written on the subject over the last four years.

His conclusions? If the Mindless Muttonheads of the Church of Gore™ wish to continue using that talking point, they’ll have to re-define “broad consensus” regarding the “catastrophic consequences” of mankind’s continued living in the industrial age as opposed to the Paleolithic period to mean “7% of scientists.”

Poor Gorebots. First they lose their hockey stick, then they lose their “upcoming catastrophic hurricane seasons” two years in a row and now their “broad consensus” is gone as well.

They’re now officially an even more nutty religion than Scientology.

    On top of Ass Mountain
    All covered with skin.
    I lost my poor brother
    When he wandered in.

    He carried a compass
    And a full backpack.
    But it couldn’t save him,
When he stepped in a crack.

    The last I saw Raymond
He was up to his chin,
    In quivering ass flesh
    The size of Berlin.

He drew in his last breath,
    And let out a yell.
    It’s really not bad here,
If it weren’t for the smell.

All studies cited are pretty misleading.

They simply calculate who threw more money at the question (sponsored more studies).

A more valuable ’study’ would simply be a referendum by scientists, broken down by specialization, where they state their opinions:

    1. temp rising or not?
    2. natural climate trend or man made?
    3. catastrophic or not?

If he’s throwing mortar rounds at ya, that’s when you really want to start moving fast away from him, zig-zagging as you go. That way, he’ll have to adjust elevation and traverse at the same time, which is just too much math for a Jarhead :em99:

    Crunch
doesn’t have a mortar round that reaches Maui does he? If I gotta hide out, I might as well be comfortable…Iao Valley is a good place to hide, one way in…one way out…and close to the golf courses too!

OK, I believe this is the point where it’d be a good idea for me to change positions too ;)

I’ll meet ya on the island Emperor, I looking for players to fill out my stealth golf foursome…played strictly at night, gotta supply your own NVG of course.

Due to your Supreme and Exalted position of our Esteemed Emperor, I’ll abstain from commenting on that. Oh, that and the fact that I’m scared shitless of your Stormtroopers. :em95:

whaaaat, you’re gonna shoot me in the belly button???

Well, in an effort to dig myself OUT of this deep hole….I’m reading a book that you might like, Crunchie. It’s called Miracle at Belleau Wood. Tells the story of the rebuilding of the Marine Corps in the early 1900’s and their role in the fighting on the Western Front in The Great War. Pretty damned good history of the Corps, I learned things that I didn’t know…like the origin of the Gunnery Sergeant in the Marines.

:em99: Yeah, thats why I said dig deep, I’m going for the belly button lint!

Miracle at Belleau Wood. Why does it seem like that book is buried deep in my “to read list”. I may have to bump it up closer to the top.

Belleau Wood was truly a monumental battle. And as far as money shot quotes go, I love the Marine Lieutenant to the Fwenchie who told them to retreat because the Germans were coming. “Retreat hell, we just got here!”.

The Marines developed small unit tactics on the spot, fire and maneuver, covering fire, overwatch, etc.

Gen.Pershing had kept the Marines in the rear doing MP crap because he though they couldn’t fight. When they finally were sent to the front they saved Paris.

The name Devil Dog, the Fouragerre that the 5th and 6th Marines still wear, and the list goes on. That battle was the birth of the modern Corps.

Thanks for the tip jaybear. I think I’ll let ya live after all ;-)

thought that might do the trick….. :em93:

You’re right about Belleau Wood, The Marines were also the ones who finally figured out how to defeat the maxim machine gun too weren’t they? With the bounding overwatch tactics they developed…..In the book it tells how they were referred to Stevedores and Butlers when they first came over to France because they were only used to unload ships and served as MP’s (in their dress blues). One thing that I didn’t know was that Teddy Roosevelt was no fan of the Marines, he tried twice to dissolve them as a fighting force….my esteem for TR went down a notch because of that.

I never could understand TR’s hatred for the Corps. He was SecNavy once, and with his foreign policy he NEEDED an expeditionary force like the Corps.

The Corps is the only branch who have ever had to justify their existence. Gen Vandegrift, Commandant during the Senate Naval Affairs Committee debates on disbanding the Corps during the re-authorization of the National Security Act in 1946, said “The bended knee is not a tradition of our Corps”.

I DO have that book jaybear. It just got bumped up to next in line after Bing West’s “No True Glory” about Fallujah that I’m reading now. Thanks again for the tip.

    I’m not military!

But it seems to me that our modern history of warefare has been:
Navy and Air Force: Soften ‘em up with as much as we can drop on them. (With the cruise missile, the Navy now hits 100’s of miles inland)

Marines: Make a front, push the front, stay on the front.

Army: Do anything necessary to make sure there are forces and supplies behind the Marines. If you actually find yourself in front of the Marines, act like you are the Marines.

I’m not putting down any branch here, we need them all, like they need each other. It’s just we always send in a particular branch to spearhead an operation.

    Simplistic, maybe.

One of the interesting bits of trivia of WWII.

The carrier Ranger was tasked to carry a VMF group of Corsairs to attack the Tirpitz at Trondheim.

Marchall scotched the plan because he didn’t like the attention that the Marines got in WWI, and didn’t want any Marines to operate in the European Theatre.

That’s interesting Guido, didn’t know that. here’s a link that you might find interesting. It details the very very limited role played by the USMC in the European theatre. You’re right, they didn’t have much of a presence in that Theatre, and in as high esteem as I hold George Marshall…he was a political player first and foremost.

I aways wondered why there was no significant Marine presents in the ETO.

Probably worked for the good, cause they ended up doing what they were set up for. Storm the beachhead.

Being most of the islands weren’t more than a mile or so across, the whole island was a beachhead. :em96: :em71: :em96:

I would have to go back through the library to find the specific reference, but I believe it was in “US Fleet Carriers in Action in WWII”. (Reasonably certain, since that is the only book I have that has much to say about Ranger.

Although, having slept on it, it could have been Wasp? I need to dig out the bookage and look it up again, I guess.

That was some fascinating stuff right there buddy. Even I didn’t know most of that. I knew that Marine staff officers had assisted in planning all of the Army’s amphib ops, but not the rest.

I’ll definitely let ya live now :em93:
