Which should come as a surprise to no one, but do take the time and read the excellent post at Stop the ACLU.

Leave aside the quibbling over whether all of the allegations are bogus or not (some of them certainly are), the real question is this one: Since when did it become the business of an organization calling itself (fraudulently) the American Civil Liberties Union to protect the rights of terrorists to commit endless violations against the Geneva Conventions and murdering our troops as well as countless innocent men, women and children?

It is almost as if the real goal of the ACLU is to undermine the United States in any way they can and replace it with something else.

We know. What a horribly paranoid suggestion.

Next we’ll be accusing its founder of being a communist or something equally horrible.

There is quite simply no way to defend what the ACLU is doing. The people they claim are victims have no right for redress under our constitution. There is no reason for any organization in America to take up the cause of terrorists and try to give them the protection of American laws. This report is nothing but a calculated stunt to bring shame on our troops and to incite anti-American rage overseas in order to force President Bush to withdraw troops.

They have declared themselves allies of our enemies and should be treated as such.

Here’s hoping that one of the first items of business taken up by Fred’s Academy of Conservative Tradition is to establish clear, accurate definitions of sedition and treason, identify perpetrators, and mobilize enforcement.

I wasn’t going to post this, because I don’t have the fortitude to argue today, but if we’re coming down to treason and death, I will. Frankly, I don’t think what was said in the 1920s has much relevance to today. I’m highly in favor of spying on terrorists. However, I am not anywhere near close to being a terrorist, and I think it’s ironic that I have to watch what I say in my e-mails much more than my friend in Communist China that I am writing to.

    http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1658616,00.html

Here’s a more even-handed discussion that does not suggest that everything is pro-terrorist. The article focuses on acts of malfeasance, like pushing an Iraqi off a bridge and having him drown. The reason there are only so few soldiers listed is that only the Army gave up its records. However it is a very small number given the amount of soldiers deployed, which is great. I’m pretty sure that the point is not to take the side of the terrorists, but to show the American people more of what is going on and also to show that some of the soldiers thought that what they did was perfectly legal. No, I don’t hate the military. Once again, I have a relative in the military. Of course, I don’t want the terrorists to win.

Wil: Once again, I’m near your list. I’ll end up on it, if I’m not careful!

I hope you are right. The NSA taps all the international phone calls originating from the US. That would suggest they check the e-mails, but I’m not sure. The NSA wants to have a database of all the e-mails sent in the US.

Not every internet provider will share their info, but it sounds like people are pretty sure the NSA taps the undersea cables.
    http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1035-6035305.html

I’m sure nobody sits there and reads or listens to them all, but I’m also sure there are red flag words. I refrain from suggesting the song “Love will get you get like a case of anthrax.” We talk about politics, toxins, etc. Who knows? I will never use the word jihad, and I regret that I mentioned how several t-shows had beheadings in a local e-mail.

I cruise extremist web sites and sometimes mention that. Would a mention of a terrorist group like the Army of God or visiting their web site get me on a list? I don’t know. I cruise a lot of sites. If anyone analyzed them, it’s obvious it’s curiousity and not about ideology. Who is a Communist Nazi?

Although I do have a tendency to be paranoid, so hopefully that’s the case.

The reason I’m asking is because if, as I suspect you’ll answer since you’re quite a bit more intelligent than the ACLU, the two have nothing to do with one another, then just what the eff is the ACLU doing messing around with it?

I mean, will the Automakers’ Union be piping up about medical malpractice one of these days? Will we be hearing complaints from the Audubon Society regarding the use of depleted uranium in war zones? Will PETA demand to be heard on the subject of tolerances in the design of coffee makers?

The NSA taps all the international phone calls originating from the US.

Do you have a link for this? From what I understand, they tap only those international calls from people who may be suspect, or those who may be calling to countries which may harbor terrorists. I seriously doubt that if my husband called his relatives in Germany the NSA would be tapping it.

It would be unrealistic. How many international calls are placed every single day? How much money would it take, and how many people would be needed to handle the load?

Your question first. IF I understand correctly, the question is for the American public to understand what is going on with American troops–thus the ACLU. Thus, the focus would be on the Americans on the bridge, not the Iraqi. I don’t think it’s a slam on the military, because there are so few soldiers involved (although there will be more from the other branches), but it’s a miniscule fraction of our troops over there.

I can see that it’s a stretch. Does that make sense? Love your other analogies.

You lost me again. One or more of the Americans allegedly pushing the Iraqi off the bridge had his civil liberties violated?

The question here, PC, isn’t whether the American people “need to know” what’s allegedly going on, that’s a completely different topic. The question is that the ACLU are meddling in stuff outside of their jurisdiction, using their organization as a sledgehammer to drive home their personal agendas, which is made infinitely worse by the fact that they are, to an extent, taxpayer funded.

If they want to exercise their rights as private citizens to pursue any issue that they want, then by all means. After we cut their federal funding.

If not, then I demand that I receive federal funds to finance my passion for various political subjects. I mean, fair’s fair, right?

Oh, and it would at least be intellectually honest of them to change their name as well if they insist on babbling about issues that have nothing to do with American civil liberties.

But hey, just for the heck of it, here’s the answer: Whether being a commie is bad or not depends entirely upon whose point of view we’re looking at. From the commie’s point of view, it’s a health risk, seeing as how prone they are to get lead poisoning if found anywhere near the likes of me. From my point of view, it’s an annoying outlay of monies that I don’t have to pay the ammo, but the upside is that it gives me target practice on moving targets. Sorry–I thought that was common knowleddge. There was a big brouhaha lately. The good thing is that they legalized spying on the foreign calls that briefly crossed through the US. I think most everyone is in favor of that, However, they went much further than that with the law. You probably hate the NYT, but it was the easiest to search, and trust me, this got a lot of coverage in different media. Exactly what they can do is a little murky, but it sounds like they monitor all foreign calls and also communication within the US if it involves someone from outside the US.

Your second link is a blog which links back to the KOSsacks. There are very few blogs which I would consider trustworthy, since most are opinion, and I sure wouldn’t consider anything the Kossacks have to say.

    Skye, trust me.

They are way ahead of the PC game than we are. (Banning Christmas plays, The 3 Little Pigs, and the flying of the Union Jack, because they might offend “minorities”)

Thank G-d (I REALLY mean that), we haven’t got to that degree of insanity.

    Yet.

Not so long ago, commie sympathizing organizations (ACLU, MSM, Democratic Party, etc.) were far more careful about exposing their Marxist, anti-American ideologies. Now they openly flaunt them. So what’s with this? Do they think they have already won and no longer need to obfuscate their real beliefs?

    Uppity bastards! :em12:

The goal of the members is to improve the US, not bring it down. Obviously, many non-members think the reverse. I think the 1920s thing is not relevant: Keep American Safe and Free is the heading on the website. Organizations evolve over time, and I do find the founder’s views repellant, but I’ve never seen such opinions these days.

But you know what? I don’t have it in me right now to argue any more. If you reply, I’ll answer later tonight.

And yet, they side with the enemies of the United States, go out of their way to promote behavior that normal people find beyond redemption (nambla), and basically do anything they can to hinder or harm our country.

There may not be any communist russia for them to work for but like any well-built machine, it keeps working towards its designed objective.

BTW, i was right outside Santa Cruz a last weekend, up Highway 9 in Brookdale, near Boulder Creek to see british folk icon Bert Jansch perform. He played Blackwaterside early in the set, which is the track i really wanted to see him play. The one Jimmy Page nicked for Black Mountain Side on Zep first album.

Would it help if I told you I consult at a small web hosting company with fifteen servers that has a 300Mbit pipe? the small amount of bandwidth (comparatively) this was capable of sniffing suggests it was targeting specific traffic, and was not a broad ‘wiretap’ of the Internet.

I wish I could find the large post I did on this the other day.

NAMBLA is definitely evil, but they did not defend their right to molest children, they defended their right to speak. To me that is different, as long as they are legal. Free speech extends to the odious, also.

They actually defended Fred Phelps–very much not a liberal, so that’s the direction the thread took. I can’t believe the dickheads protest military funerals.

    I think I’m argued out.
