(Via The Mortman)

Poor Jim Moran (D-VA). Just when people start forgetting his past anti-Semitic tirades and paranoid ramblings about mysterious Joooish moneymen, he puts on his jackboots and starts goose-stepping all over again. Isn’t there a rehab center for demented old fools like that?:

Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.) has again come under fire from local Jewish organizations for remarking in a magazine interview that the “extraordinarily powerful” pro-Israel lobby played a strong role promoting the war in Iraq.

In an interview with Tikkun, a California-based Jewish magazine, Moran said the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is “the most powerful lobby and has pushed this war from the beginning. I don’t think they represent the mainstream of American Jewish thinking at all, but because they are so well organized, and their members are extraordinarily powerful — most of them are quite wealthy — they have been able to exert power.”

“It’s those damn Jooish Secret Zionist Conspirators, I tell you! Just what Julius Streicher tried to warn us about, over and over again!!!”

“Ronald Halber, executive director of the first group, said Moran’s remarks are anti-Semitic and draw on ugly stereotypes about Jewish wealth, power and influence.

“He uses several age-old canards that have been used throughout history that have brought violence upon Jews,” Halber said this week.

But at least he has the decency to translate them into English from the original German.

“I would like to have a reasonable, objective discussion about AIPAC’s foreign policy agenda. But it’s difficult to do that because any time you question their motives, you are accused of being anti-Semitic.”

…Moran feebly tried to defend himself while hastily turning down his CD player, which was playing a potpourri of his favorite German military marches.

A reminder:

…in 2003, at an antiwar forum in Reston, Moran said: “If it were not for the strong support of the Jewish community for this war with Iraq, we would not be doing this. The leaders of the Jewish community are influential enough that they could change the direction of where this is going, and I think they should.”

It’s not so much that you’re criticizing AIPAC that gets you branded an anti-Semite, Herr Obersturmbannführer Moran, as it is your constant insistence that it is a bunch of mysterious, unnamed Joooish moneymen that control the entire foreign policy of the United States. You know, very much like Julius Streicher, Joseph Goebbels and various other fellow travelers of yours from 70 years ago tried to pin the entire blame for the “conspiracy” against Germany on a small group of Evil Jooos™ controlling the politics of Britain, the U.S., France, Russia and everybody else who didn’t agree with them.

That sort of insane blather is pretty diagnostic, you know, so it’s time we drag an old PhotoShop of ours out from the archives again:

Do you mean that AIPAC didn’t have any influence in the war? Not even a smidgeon?

Moran is partially correct — AIPAC did push for the war — and still supports the occupation, but he is wrong to say that because of AIPAC we are over there. AIPAC would be the midget in the room.

I would say it is probably more realistic to say that the real pushers for this war is and has been both the oil companies and the defense contractors. They are the only ones profitting from a continuing occupation of Iraq, and rumors of attacking Iran.

This war has nothing to do with “fighting terrorism” for the goal of wiping out terrorism. It has everything to do with making huge profits for the investor class.

And that’s the whole point. If he’d said “I’m at odds with AIPAC for their support of the war”, then it’d be nothing more than another disagreement, but he just can’t let it go at that, can he?

You haven’t seen a kickup in your dividends, yet oil companies have been making unheard of profits and the CEOs of those companies are taking home salaries that would run some small countries.

Ah, but you aren’t part of the investor class. Your piddly little shares are not even minisule when compared to their holdings. You work for a living, THEY have staff who collect their money and deals with the incidentals.

    occupation…..such a MoveOn.orgish word to use. C’mon man…

I can’t help it if they use the proper term for it. We aren’t at war with Iraq, we are an occupying force. You might try to say that we are their at their invitation, but that wouldn’t be right either. Even if they formally asked us, we wouldn’t leave. They aren’t in a position to force us out.

Additionally, they aren’t able to decide whether our contractors supply cheap labor from Sri Lanka or they supply their own Iraqi labor. Their government can’t make their own decisions without first clearing it with ours.

Iraq’s government has no say over our military or the contractors. Both are immune to any prosecution or direction of the Iraqi Government.

We decide if, when, and under what scenario we decide to leave Iraq. Iraq doesn’t get to decide that, even though much of the Iraqi government wants us to leave.

That is a classic definition of a country being occupied.

well you won’t hear me saying “good on ya’” when it comes to oil execs salaries….there are times when I think the price of oil is being purposely manipulated.

But, overall, this is a war for oil. It is a war to control that which finances the countries that finance the terrorists. That is one reason why Iran is being such a pain in the ass. It’s also a reason that saddam went into Kuwait and was moving towards Saudi Arabia.

I can’t help it if they use the proper term for it. We aren’t at war with Iraq, we are an occupying force. You might try to say that we are their at their invitation, but that wouldn’t be right either. Even if they formally asked us, we wouldn’t leave. They aren’t in a position to force us out.

No we aren’t at war with Iraq, any more than we are at war with Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia or Jordan…but we are fighting their nationals, citizens who have sworn to destroy us as a nation and an ideaology. They don’t swear allegiance to a flag, they swear allegiance to a false prophet, and are waging a world wide war to see that bogus faith as the dominant power on earth.

We decide if, when, and under what scenario we decide to leave Iraq. Iraq doesn’t get to decide that, even though much of the Iraqi government wants us to leave.

That is a classic definition of a country being occupied.

Of course they want us to get out, it’s their country. The big if here is that they don’t want us to bolt and leave the beasts among them unchecked. Iraqi youth speaks up here. I know that you will discredit that link seeing as how it’s Pat Dollard’s site. But I’ll be damned if I’ll go to al-cnn or the other propaganda sites for my news. I only visit them to see how misguided they are.

As for a country being occupied, try Afghanistan under the Soviets or Taliban, or France in World War II, or any number of real cases of occupation. Our troops are not an occupying force, they are a stabilization force. We did not go in and set up a puppet government (did that get your attention? :em93:). Do you think Karl Rove aimed his mind control machine at 8 million Iraqis who voted 3 times and told them who to vote for? Did Diebold put mind control chemicals in the purple ink used to mark the fingers of the voters?

Well, well, now maybe, after deploying a few thousand of these little beasties, we could indeed bring some of our troops home…playing very realistic video games….. Too bad the left fails to understnad nobody wants the troops home more than the vets, who also understand what’s on the line and why they are there.

Thanks. loved the Che is Dead!

There’s a Rottie very active in GoE, but I’m obsessive about people’s privacy when it comes to their e-mails.

I’ve read stuff, but I had never actually seen a picture of a 9/11 truther. I guess they really do exist.

    PC,

The last thing I read awhile ago had something like 33% of the population being truthers.

Next to the network news, the next biggest purveyor of untruths are polls. Remember, they are snapshots of peoples opinions. Cripes, my opinion changes with the next breath sometimes….it’s just a matter of catching me at the right time if you’re looking for the answer that you want to hear.

Don’t take them as anything more than a compilation of selective opinions….nothing more. The mere fact that news networks like CNN occupy so much of their nightly newscast time reporting on poll results just shows how lazy they have become, there’s hardly any effort being made to do REAL journalism anymore….they’d rather fire up the phone bank and poll the folks that fit their agenda based demographic.

Too true this line in the song Dirty Laundry

    “We can do the Innuendo
    we can dance and sing,
When it’s said and done we haven’t told you a thing,
We all know that Crap is King
    Give us Dirty Laundry

p.s….click on that link above, it goes to a pretty damned good live version of the song.

Thanks–it’s a great song, and I had forgotten about it.

I don’t know. I’m constantly tweaking my opinions as new info comes in, but certain core beliefs will not change lightly.

A poll is a snapshot. I think if you survey enough people and use the right statistics to analyze the data, you might be able to make valid conclusions.

And if polls suck and are unreliable, and the 36% truthers figure should be 50% lower, that’s still a hell of a lot of people that believe that conspiracy.

“There are psychological explanations for why conspiracy theories are so seductive. Academics who study them argue that they meet a basic human need: to have the magnitude of any given effect be balanced by the magnitude of the cause behind it. A world in which tiny causes can have huge consequences feels scary and unreliable. Therefore a grand disaster like Sept. 11 needs a grand conspiracy behind it. “We tend to associate major events–a President or princess dying–with major causes,” says Patrick Leman, a lecturer in psychology at Royal Holloway University of London, who has conducted studies on conspiracy belief. “If we think big events like a President being assassinated can happen at the hands of a minor individual, that points to the unpredictability and randomness of life and unsettles us.” In that sense, the idea that there is a malevolent controlling force orchestrating global events is, in a perverse way, comforting.”

Niebelrung PC? Gottedamerung, Sigfrieds Rhine Journey, Brunhildas Immolation, Siegfieds Funeral, that’s good martial music right there. And of course the Ride of the Valkyries.

That reminds me of my yoot, Crunchie. Whenever I had a writing assignment in school where I was asked to critique something (and the text I was supposed to be critiquing was particularly critique-worthy), I’d put on Wagner to get in the right “mood.” :em96:

    PC,

This relative that doesn’t believe in the moon landing. Are they schizophrenic or something? I find it hard to believe that anyone sane would hold that view.

If no one else has told you by now, I have some sad news. There are some folks out there who do not believe that we have landed a man or several men on the moon. In fact, a lot of these folks believe that the film, Capricorn 1, which showed a fake landing on Mars, in some way references to it. I have no idea how many of them are actually out of their mind, just the fact that there are people out there, along with websites that claim they have pictorical proof that the landing was actually done inside a sound stage, is a damn shame. It means that folks just does not want to believe that some people have actually landed on another body.

Whoever did that quote that you’re quoting from, I agree 1000%. People wants a big conspricacy to explain everything instead of using simple common sense and Occam’s Razar. Not saying that conspiracy do not exist, but from my own study of history, the problem with conspiracies is this, the more and more people who know the secrets, the more likely one of them is eventually going to open up their big mouth and leak out the truth. Heck, one of the most successful conspiracies, that of the ‘Invasion’ of England in 1688 aka The Glorious Revolution, was known by King James II of England and King Louis XIV of France. How well did they know an invasion was coming? Louis offered his fleet to James to repell Williams III of Orange. James, the idiot, refused. So, when Williams men landed in England late in ‘88, Louis was busy having military fun against his European enemies in Western Germany while James watched his position in England slowly collapse.

So, based on this, I tend to not believe folks when they scream, Conspiracy!, since someone tends to open up his mouth at some point.
