So what do you do when your favorite Shamnesty gets shafted by We the People and your plan to import reliable voter cattle/cheap slave labor goes straight out the window?

Easy: You just try to sneak it in the back door, hoping that nobody will notice:

Less than three months after the amnesty bill was defeated, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois…

We’ll pause momentarily to get over the fits of laughter caused by the phrase “Whip Dick Durbin.” Not a bad suggestion, we might add. Of course, if you leave out the last name, you’ll get an entirely different message, no less hilarious, and we’re sure that that’s something that Dick Turban engages in on a regular basis.

OK, moving on…

…wants to revive one of its worst provisions: an amendment to the defense authorization bill that would constitute a massive financial windfall for millions of illegal aliens. The bill would essentially guarantee illegals a college education at much lower in-state rates.

If somebody figures out what cheap college tuition for criminals has to do with defense authorization, we’d like for you to share, because we can’t see a connection there.

Titled the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act, it was included in the immigration “compromise” that died in the Senate in June. It benefits illegals who entered this country before age 16. The bill should be shouted down.

Then beaten, cuffed, gagged and dragged outside and shot. And that goes for the bill as well.

“The illegal alien who applies for this amnesty is immediately rewarded with ‘conditional’ lawful permanent resident (green card) status, which can be converted to a non-conditional green card in short order,” Kris Kobach, a law professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, noted in a Heritage Foundation paper. “The alien can then use his newly acquired status to seek green cards for his parents who brought him in illegally in the first place. In this way, it is a backdoor amnesty for the millions of illegal aliens who brought their children to the United States.”

Brilliant, isn’t it? Amnesty, unlimited chain migration benefits for criminals AND cheap college education (paid for by YOU and YOUR children, you silly taxpayer you), all in one quick stroke of the pen.

But wait, wasn’t that EXACTLY what a vast majority of voters just got done telling Congress that we DON’T want?

Why yes, yes it was, but since when did the self-anointed royalty in the pestilent swamps of DC give a shit what YOU think?

We suggest it’s time for you to get on the horn and remind them. Forcefully. Repeatedly.

Remember: They’re your employees, and you’re in a position to fire their arses if you so please.

Damn thieves, liars and bribe-taking prostitutes. A pox on ALL of them.

Here’s a handy-dandy list of wafflers in DC who still haven’t got the message.

(And yes, it is worth it to call DemCong Senateweasels too. They’re getting nervous and realizing that this whole “full amnesty for serial lawbreakers” isn’t helping their party’s image none, so even if they’re too chicken to come out in the open and oppose it, some of them are likely to pull strings in the background to make it all go away. Besides, what’s the point of only contacting your Rep. or Senator if you already know that they’re going to agree with you?).

I’ve been watching this one for days (Laura Ingraham’s been beating on this drum for a week).

Get out and make the calls - I already have.

    Now - OT:

I don’t usually engage in the word-of-mouth thing for one blogger over another - I usually feel that who I read is my business alone, but you need to go read this guy - and Misha, you need him on the blogroll.

Bill Whittle was the last writer to impress me this much (not a straight comparison - J’s different).

Insightful-to-funny-to-poignant in the space of a day.

Something else I don’t usually do (and apologies to anyone bothered by it this once) - but here’s today’s post… all of us, Current and Prior… and most especially Crunchie right now - will feel this one.

Thank me or curse me as is your wont,

    Conflict

“It is not given to the cleverest and most calculating of mortals to know with certainty what is their interest. Yet it is given to quite a lot of simple folk to know every day what is their duty.” So said Churchill, quoted by David Gelernter in his superb No More Vietnams. Gelernter goes on to say, “Damned right this is Vietnam all over again. Only this time we will not get scared and walk out in the middle. This time we will stand fast, and repair a piece of the American psyche that has been damaged and hurting ever since we ran from Vietnam in disgrace way back in April 1975.”
    Damn right.

“Not many nations get a second chance to show the world and themselves that they are serious after all, that their friends can trust them and their enemies ought to fear them. …we can make clear that ‘No More Vietnams’ is a Republican slogan. It means that we will never again go back on our word and betray our friends, our soldiers, and ourselves. … The left had better get this straight: Vietnam was an aberration. There will be no more Vietnams.”

    I have a new hero.

Of the Vietnam Memorial wall in Washington, Gelernter points out that “it stands in a scraped-out hole in the ground; a symbolic open grave. Some day we will tear down that wall and fill up the open grave, and rebuild the wall above ground and re-engrave every name, and add two more words at the end. Two words the designer did not see fit to include. Thank you.”

    Amen.

What is passion for, if not to hold steadfastly to right and set our hearts firmly against evil? What is faithfulness, if there is no risk of pain? What is friendship if it bears no cost? What is valor, that looks only to its own comfort? Why have we been blessed, if not to stand up and step forward and raise the strength of our arms in defense of the oppressed? Let us be fierce, to protect those who are weak. Because there is nobody else who will stand firm. Only us, if we will. Only we have the strength, now, at this point in history, to bring to bear against a mounting anarchy sufficient force to impose order. Is America great? Then let us do great things.

How, um, patriotic. How idealistic. And how easy, to say. But I have a son, born into my hands a life of blood and paste, and when he came to me I vowed by every ancient righteousness never to fail his need. He’s grown to tall and broad manhood now, and he’s everything a father could want in a son. How could it be otherwise. On his own initiative he joined in time of war the US military, and stands now alongside his comrades in harm’s way. I could not survive his loss. Weak, I know, but that’s just one of my many flaws. My loving is a visceral streaming across the hemispheres, connected and distant, painful and dear, but how could I have it any other way?

All of these sentiments have a cost, if we live by them. Our love of honor. The lives of our sons. We would not sacrifice either. To lose one would be to lose our own worth. To lose the other would be to lose everything that has meaning.

God made us capable of loving justice, so that we might fight for what is right. God made us to love our sons that we might better understand God.

In the face of such conflict, we must hope and pray and cling to courage. Without it, we must fail.

    J.

Crunchie: Not so much off topic, as it is a defense spending bill that is being bastardized by the shamnesty supporters. Yes, I think “Thank You” should have been inscribed on the wall along with the names. Although “Thank You” doesn’t really cover the magnitude of the indebtedness we should feel.

As to the DREAM Act, it is already being used in our state. Yes, illegal aliens pay in-state tuition here, and qualify for education grants. Sucks. Have any of you ever filled out a FAFSA? I have these last two years, as our two oldest kids are now in college. The FAFSA questionnaire only asks about your assets, not your obligations. So, for our family, I have been notified that our annual portion of the tuition bill is $20K per kid, or $40,000. That is how much we will have to spend before the kids qualify for government grants or need-based scholarships. The funny thing is, if we were to spend this much, the amount we would have left to live on would put us at the poverty level for a family our size. In other words, the younger kids would qualify for the subsidized meal programs at the elementary and middle schools. Crazy, isn’t it? Fortunately, the tuition bill hasn’t come to that much yet, and we have been able to cut corners elsewhere.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining about paying for this much tuition out of pocket. I don’t approve of government subsidies for education anyway (and yes, I know that since our daughter attends a state school part of her education is subsidized, and it is reflected in the tuition rates). What does piss me off though is that my kids are intentionally staying in-state in order to afford school. Why should they be restricted in their school choice, while our tax dollars go to enhancing the opportunities of FUCKING ILLEGALS!!!!???? It makes no sense to me.

Incidentally, we are attempting to get them through college without loans, even if it means taking a break now and then to scrape together tuition. I do think it’s a good thing to have the kids working and paying for part of it. It certainly makes them better consumers when it comes to choosing classes - they are much more concerned about the content and quality when they have to pay for it themselves. That “Women’s Studies” credit seems a lot more frivolous and unnecessary, and it really bites that it is required - just ask my daughter!

Be sure when you call your Senators to specify why you’re calling. I called Sen Martinez’s office and the woman there said that he is against the amnesty provision. Reiterate to your Senator that so long as that provision is part of this bill, you expect a “no” vote on the whole damn thing.

    MuscleDaddy,

Thank me or curse me as is your wont,

Gonna have to go with the ‘thank you!’ This guy, Fallen Prophet, is GOOD.

    —-

“Creeping Vichyism”, his third post down currently, is well worth folk’s time, too.
To borrow a page out of MD’s methodology, above:

From brutalism, then, to cowardice. In fifteen or twenty years, the body of Europe shifted from jingoism to appeasement, from Chauvinism to … what? Chamberlainism? The legacy is to acquiesce to any demand that can’t be put off, and hope the cost will be borne by — well, honestly, by America. From grim old men pleased to slaughter youth, to eternal adolescents shirking responsibilities and taking the grownup’s car for a joy ride. So. Europe is a eunuch. Islam is a rapist. The world is a coward and a profiteer. Where is manliness?

Here it is. America. America, standing now as once did Britain, Great Britain, facing the monster across the water.

Hello, old enemy. Do you remember me? I am America. I didn’t recognize you at first. You’ve changed your religion it seems. Your eyes have grown darker in the passing years. But I know you now. Your accent is different, but I know you by your actions. You’ve forgotten who I am. Smiling America, of the open face, open hands, open heart. Slow to anger, and merciful in victory — but unrelenting, eventually. For a hundred years I have stood shoulder to shoulder with every nation that loves justice and liberty. Perhaps I have grown careless, though. Inattentive in my vigil. And now you come, the striking serpent at my heel. I thought I crushed your head some time ago. The monster has more than one head, it seems. Alright. In just a very short time, now, I will have come to myself. I will shake off the idleness of dreams. I will remember who I am, and what I am for. Just strike me once more, or twice. That will bring me fully awake. Then I will give you my full attention. Just one more time, or two.

You give ‘em an earful and, sooner or later, they’ll start wondering just how many people feel like you do and then they’ll remember their mortgage payments and the horrors of having to do something useful for their money.

Nothing scares a politician more than the thought of having to rely upon his or her non-existent skills for income.

I know; all three are on my speed dial, but damn, it gets tiresome, sometimes. It’s like trying to dry up the Pacific with a roll of Bounty (TM).

I mean, the WaPo got Webb elected (”macaca”) just last year, replacing one of the most reliable Conservative voices we ever had. The DNC and George Soros pumped enough money to retire the debt, all because George Allen was seen as a prime Presidential Candidate. Webb knows who holds his leash.

Mr. Liz Taylor (John Warner), Thankfully, has finally decided to go play gentleman farmer and “Elder Statesman.” Too little, too late. He got all the attention with the “gang of fourteen” idiocy, but he hasn’t been a reliable vote since he got there. His best contributions to America came during the Reagan Administration.

And guess who the two leading candidates to replace him are - Tom Davis (Rino, VA), and MARK Warner, our former Governor. If anything good can be said about “Mark not John” it’s that he’s not as far left as Barak OsamaObama.

I swear, some days I wanna move to Utah. Don’t play football worth a damn, but the Conservatives OWN that state.
