From LC & IB Dan:

(CBS 5 / AP) OROVILLE A disgruntled male student, reportedly mad at a teacher, fired shots inside an Oroville high school Friday morning and held two other students hostage in a band room before releasing them and being taken into custody by authorities.

Looks like another case of a psychotic goblin undeterred by those big, scary “Gun Free Zone” signs that are purportedly going to end wanton murder sprees in our schools.

Isn’t it strange, by the way? All the school massacres seem to have happened after the Klintoon Administration pushed through the concept of “Gun Free School Zones?”

If one had a brain (DemCong Nanny Staters need not apply), one might almost detect a cause and effect here.

    Fred! remarked on them signs,,
Years ago, I saw an interview, a couple of attica inmates were asked why they plied their trade in the big cities,, when the police were stretched so thin in the countryside.
“Those country folks will blow your head off! It’s safer to rob folks in the big cities.”

So, who’s gonna believe these thugs?

No one would’ve thought for a minute they’d get away with any such foolishness around my HS (ca. mid-70s), what with the ex-Ranger Capt. heading up the JROTC program and two dozen active shooters in the small bore program (range on campus). That’s at the higher end of good resident defense, but any school with a decent ROTC progam and a contingent of trained CCW holders can protect our kids way better than those stupid little, “come get us, we’re helpless” signs. But then, that’s yet another way to cow the masses with fear and powerlessness, so the demoncrats will have full control–except within 300 yds of me.

Ahh a kernel of reason in a completely irrational approach that government is capable and more importantly available to protect everyone 24/7. You see we lawful carriers of firearms are accused of scaring people into believing that they need a firearm to protect themselves. My well known personal carry is no more used to create fear than asking a passenger to buckle their seatbelt. Friends KNOW I’m packing and feel confident with that knowledge, in other words it doesn’t evoke their personal fears just an awareness that I make a choice to be prepared for serious social encounters with something other than my John-Thomas in my hands.

If fact to quote our resident liberal:

But again — I am NOT telling you that you shouldn’t own guns or carry those you own. I am merely saying that you shouldn’t have to scare someone into feeling a need to carry based on some misleading crime statistics.

So, I assume this is yet another misleading crime statistic eh DJ?

The gubmint says that we schools are gun free zone, therefore depriving law abiding citizens the ability to defend themselves and their charges. By doing so, they thereby assume the role of protector. Their strategy for fulfilling that role?

    Post a sign.

    Yep, gubmint at it’s best.

THAT should scare ya into carrying.

Wait a minute!! I’m confused. If there’s a law making the school a gun-free zone, then why did this disgruntled male bring a gun onto school grounds???

Oh yeah …… that’s right …… those who intend to hurt and kill people pretty much don’t give a flying fuck about gun control laws - which seriously diminishes the effectiveness of those laws.

    Stupid fuckin’ GFWs.

If this took place in the bandroom…why didn’t someone shove a Tuba up his ass? Whack him with a Bass Drum? Give him a Trombone Tonsillectomy? Shit there must have been a hundred things in that room to use for weapons. Chairs, music stands, instruments. There’s just no imagination and inventiveness anymore. :em98:

That type of inventiveness has been indoctrinated right out of the good kids Mrs. M. Crisis counselors and touchy feel good BS has turned our nation into a bunch of victims in waiting, scared feckless the first time someone goes BOO! Let alone being able to face down an armed assailant.

Except for the neer-do-wells that is. They are still quite creative at finding a way to shiv yer ass.

    Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

OK, someone help me here. If I’m to understand the 10th Amendment as written, the individual states cannot create laws that contradict the powers delegated to the US Gubmint by the Constitution. So how is it that every state has their own interpretation of the 2nd Amendment? How can any state or city ban or infringe the right to keep and bear firearms? Or require registration or permits?

Up here in Canadastan, we’re faced with the same shit. It’s getting very frustrating to hear our Premier (Dalton McGuinty) say we should ban handguns every time there’s a gunshot he hears about. This statement of course, is saying he’s too busy and couldn’t care less about the real issue.
I know there’s not much I can say about the subject that hasn’t been beaten to death on this site, but one thing the US has over us here is you guys don’t have our infamous “Young Offenders Act” (renamed to the Youth Justice Act). We also don’t elect our judges, they’re appointed…apparently from a mountain of idiocy. People are just fine with their fellow adults…but it’s the teens - the young offenders - you can’t fight them, you can’t defend yourself from them, you can’t tell them to stop, and you can’t punish them no matter what they do.
If someone were to go downtown Toronto and throw grenades into random groups of noisy teens, it might actually improve our quality of life. (not seriously, just an observation). Watching a group of teens swarm an elderly person and walk away untouched is extremely frustrating to say the least. Here in Toronto we have the worst mayor in history, all the cops hate him. We have no justice system.
If a school-aged asshole knows he’ll be in the bighouse for turning a gun on someone, knowing he’ll be raped/beaten/worse and in his 40’s before he gets out, maybe he won’t DO it. Here, they get community service, suspended sentences, taxpayer funded therapy, and no criminal record.
It can’t be that bad in the US, is it?

    AND

    Oroville is in northern CA….

You know- the PRK, the state where you have to undergo an additional state background check when buying a firearm. The state that expressly forbids interpersonal sales of non-C&R long arms and all pistols except blackpowder- even a private transfer has to be done through an FFL. The state where in most areas, CCW permits are reserved for the rich and famous. Where even on a private party transfer, you have a ten day waiting period (it used to be fifteen, until people bitched about the waiting periods during the L.A. riots) The state with its own separate AWB and standard capacity magazine ban….

And yet, somehow, gun crime here is still very high… and gangbangers still seem to have ‘assault weapons’ and 30 round magazines… try to explain that to the urban liberals.

More proof of how well the Free Crime Indoctrination Zones are working. :em98:

You got that right! Just about everywhere the little darlings are so protected, there is NOTHING they can’t do, murder and whatelse, and they know it, since the LAW is telling them “it’s OK, all is forgiven, you’re only kids after all”. Any “kid” who pulls a gun on someone is protected, but just you watch what would happen to ME should I try to put a stop to the little monster’s actions. You guessed it! I become the criminal for touching the little darling. Now you know how these kids got to be like this in the first place. Oh, and Canadian parents totally refuse, as a whole, to teach these brats the meaning of being responsible. They will not say NO and enforce it, lest the little brats feel offended. And our so-called justice system (another joke, but I don’t feel like laughing anymore) is guilty of creating “terror brats” by refusing to properly punish them. May you be spared, my friends…

Good suggestion ACLpoo, not to mention the positive effect of cleaning out the gene pool. I actually feel safer walking around in the West Village in Manhattan late at night than in downtown Toronto on a Friday evening.
