Thanks to LC Mope, who IM’ed us with this one last night. It looks like the al-Beeb is in for a rough ride.

Mr Thompson will tell the BBC Trust today that 2,000 employees — almost a tenth of the workforce — will be sacked in an attempt to find £2 billion in budget cuts.

The decision is controversial, with senior broadcasters such as John Humphrys and Jeremy Paxman criticising the management for planning to reduce news and current affairs while finding funds for less popular digital channels and internet sites.

Humphrys is still trying to figure out what this whole “Internet” thing is all about, and is expected to do so right after he fully groks electricity, hot and cold running water and who won WWI.

Both BBC managers and broadcasting unions said they felt industrial action was looming. One source predicted the corporation could face the worst strikes for a decade with major programmes likely to be taken off the air.

Leaving Hajis all over the world with only al-Jazeera to lean on for a sympathetic ear, at least for a while.

How positively dreadful. As he outlines his cost-cutting blueprint, Mr Thompson will appeal to the BBC Trust, which replaced the board of governors, to stand firm in the face of sustained strike action.

One senior BBC source admitted that a strike looked certain but that management would not back down in the face of union threats.

A senior broadcaster, who declined to be named, predicted a furious response from even the most moderate employees to the compulsory redundancies among the 23,000 work force.

“There will be a strike. That is definite,” he said. “Some big programmes will go off the air.

“It’s already been a shocker of a year with the rows over phone-in cheating and the Queen. Now they are going to sack 2,000 people. Management have a big fight on their hands.”

And unions, predictably, respond by threatening not to do the jobs that they’re afraid of losing. Good. That ought to save a few pennies as well.

The majority of the cuts will come in the 3,000-strong news gathering operation when radio, television and online operations are integrated for the first time. Several hundred jobs will go in the BBC’s factual division, which makes programmes such as Planet Earth.

As opposed to the BBC’s non-factual division, which makes programmes such as “BBC News.”

The unions will ballot the work force over industrial action, with the first walkouts expected next month amid warnings that disruption could last until Christmas. Officials raised the prospect of picket lines at every major BBC centre in the country.

Here’s hoping that it will be a really, really cold winter. Nothing warms the various bivalved mollusks of our cardiac muscle quite as much as sitting inside with a hot cup of tea, watching bloody commies freezing their bollocks off in the snow and sleet.

But the BBC was accused of wasting money on sections of its website that “nobody uses”. The bbc.co.uk site contains several hundred sections covering a host of topics such as health, business, news, science and music.

Controversially, it also includes pages that give advice on how best to take your socks off and an intelligence test for pets. There is also a feature on the scourge of dog mess on the streets.

Noos You Can Yoos. We’re all in favor. It beats having to read endless press releases from al-Qaeda dressed up as “objective journalism.”

The unions expect to be buoyed by high-profile support from broadcasters such as Humprhys, who says the cuts will damage the quality of BBC journalism.

That hardly seems possible, unless Humphrys is using a scale that allows for negative numbers. They might want to invest a few quid in their Spell Checking Division, however.

But a corporation source said the fears of the journalists were misplaced.

“Mark Thompson does not want his epitaph to say he wrecked BBC news and current affairs. That will not happen, but that does not mean the way we approach both cannot be reformed.”

The reassurance cut little ice with senior BBC journalists. One said: “It’s going to be a bloodbath and strike action is certain. People who have been at the BBC for years are going to lose their jobs, which will really stir up the militant feeling pervading the organisation.”

“Militant?”

Using the standard Beeb definition of that word, does that mean that we can expect disgruntled former employees to blow themselves up in the foyer? Oh goody. Bring us the popcorn, please.

THAT explains a lot!!! Mind you, BBC “reporters” are still trying to pin down sources about some discovery called fire… can’t publish something that has not been checked now, can we..?

Also, can’t wait to see what their good muslime (no typo) friends are going to do to show support… Can’t let your biggest political voice down in their time of need, can they!?!

This concept where cutting adrift 2000 slackers with “compulsory redundancies” will save 2 BILLION… not dollars, but British pounds. Current conversion of the Pound is $2.03

4 Billion dollars will be saved by cutting “compulsory redundancies” — that seems like a no-brainer to me. It only seems fair that if we ask the mooslims to move out of the 7th century, the least we can ask of the Brits is to move out of the 1840’s.

More importantly, since the French elected Nicolas Sarkozy (D-RINO) and now the Beeb is moving to consolidate jobs, could it not be said that Europe is moving away from socialism?

This is one of the benefits of The Global War on Terror- and the inherent benefit of victory. Also vanquished will be those that supported the ‘loyal opposition’.

Oh, how I look forward to the election of FRED! and the final nail in the coffin of these socialists.

As for these people that will be losing their jobs, two words: Buggy whips.

I find this interesting. The company I work for is a fortune 500 outfit, well over a century old, doing about ten billion a year now with thirty thousand domestic employees. With no unions, it has been rated as one of the best one hundred companies to work for in the United States, the bennies aren’t bad. I am not overpaid, nor underpaid, but I am fairly paid considering all demograpic circumstance. I can say this……I have been told by many people, including some high in management, that I am a known and appreciated employee, my job is not now and never will be in jeopardy as long as the company exists. Of course it is also common knowlege I outwork men half my age consistently, physically have more stamina and forty years experience in the work force doesn’t hurt either. I don’t need a union…I compete for my job.

Gee whiz, and they keep on spouting the same liberal crap that makes people turn ‘em off, it’s just like liberal talk radio here in the states. How many :em41: Airhead America :em41: stations do you find in the commercial market vs. liberal programs on :em72: NPR? :em72: The majority of civilized people reject liberalism, that’s why liberal radio is taxpayer-subsidized, few listen to it!
