Oh, and how about these reporters getting a crash course in what “private property” really means?

What makes it truly hilarious (even if it IS as predictable as day following night), is the utterly cluefucked response from the journaljizzmers and their arrogant sense of entitlement.

We particularly love the airhead studio bimbo advising the trespassing reporter on the scene to “not let him (the property owner, presumably) touch you, because that would be assault.”

No, you clue-castrated clusterfuck, that would be “legal eviction of trespassers from private property.”

The moment you’re put on notice that you’re on private property and told to leave, your best course of action is to start vacating the premises without undue delay, because from then on you’re TRESPASSING, you bovine butt-pimple. And trust us, at least around these here parts you wouldn’t LIKE what might legally happen to trespassers who refuse to leave.

I’m wondering if this is why that gas station owner in Michigan ended up getting shot…if he was warned he was on private property (the rival gas station’s), told to vacate, and he refused?

Has there been anymore follow up to this?

Considering the fact that it was in Texas, I would say the reporter got off fairly easily. He could have been greeted with shotgun.

Well, reporters do seem to think they can go anywhere and do anything and its their entitlement to “cover” a story standing on your roof if they want to. That clueless “anchor lady” talking about assault should be properly debriefed as to what constitute assault…

And, of course, the fact that the reporter was black and the property owner white means an outcry of racism in 5,4,3,2…

Arrogant is right. I wouldn’t have bothered with the equipment. Just a rough physical ejection of from the premises. As for the other link, Adverse Possession is hardly “arcane”. I have to counsel people on it at least two or three times a year. Prevailing on a claim on the basis of ‘emotional attachment’ is. That gets you nowhere in most of the states I am aware of…

They not only trespassed for 25 years, they were able to legally steal the couple’s property and stealing their retirement dreams in the process.

It is ironic (but nice!) that so many people in the People’s Republic of Boulder are standing up for this couple.

    they’re all idiots and vultures….

A few years ago, my son was robbed while pulled up at an outside teller machine at our local bank one night. A guy came around and pepper sprayed him in the face through the open drivers window. He managed to stumble out of his car and over into the Walgreens next door. The pharmacist took him back and started taking care of him and calling us about what happened. When my wife and I got there, the police were there, my son was sitting outside on the curb talking to the cop while the pharmacist was administering to him….that’s when I look up and see a local news van pull up. Out pops the reporter and the cameraman and they head straight for my son who is still in a lot of pain. I get between them and my son and tell them we’re not interested in being interviewed, the reporter gives me that “I’m an important person and I have a story to report” look and says “well I have a job to do ” as he tried to step around me. I got in front of him again and said to him “and I have a son to take care of, we don’t have time for you right now”. That’s when the cop intervened and ordered them to leave……as the cop went back to filling out the paperwork he just looked at me and shook his head, muttering something about assholes……

seems that he’d had his fill of them too.

I was once dove hunting on my own 40 acre field when some idiot kid came on to my property and said “My Mom says you have to stop shooting that shotgun on our property!” I explained to him that: 1) You are about 20 acres into MY property and 2) I’m the one with the shotgun, so it’s probably not too smart to argue about it.

    O Great One,

I feel a bit for the street reporter here, for being between a rock and a hard place. It seems as if he’s trying to juggle at least three different conflicting interests while attempting to do his job: those of the property owner, who clearly wants him off his land; the blow-dried idiots on the anchor desk; and the studio producer and possibly the director as well, all jabbering in his ear at the same time. The reporter does look as if he wants to comply with the owner’s wishes, but stands there doing nothing, perhaps because some jackass behind the camera ordered him to keep talking.

The insane thing about local TV news is that the blow-dried morons in the studio get the lions’ share of the money, while the street reporters — people who do all the real work and who get to face the real consequences, like this guy — get paid a pittance. In the top 25 markets, anchors get salaries well into six figures and far beyond, while a good street reporter in those cities with several years’ experience might clear $50k a year. Reporters make a helluva lot less than that in smaller markets like San Antonio.

Full disclosure: I’m recovering, slowly, from that full-of-crap industry. Oh, and I remember the J-school profs telling us over and over again that no matter how competitive the news business might be, ya gotta stay within the law when covering the story. And that starts with saying, “That’s all, folks!” immediately when someone tells you to leave their property forthwith. Guess the studio clowns forgot that lesson — or they never got it in the first place. I don’t know which is worse.

I agree. It’s kind of hard to make an informed decision when you’ve got three people yakking at you at the same time, PARTICULARLY when two of them are your “superiors” in the hierarchy and they clearly don’t have a fookin’ clue what the heck they’re talking about.

Yes, he should have just told the studio offal to shut the fuck up and vacated the premises, but really, I’m sure he’d like to have a job tomorrow too, and it’s a sure thing that the CEO desk jockey of the station isn’t going to side with a reporter if the blowdried studio turds raise a ruckus.

Which is why my ire was and remains mainly directed at the talking airheads, particularly the birdbrained bimbo with her “if he touches you, it’s assault” bullshit. If it wasn’t clear and the poor street reporter caught an undue amount of the shrapnel, I apologize. I can commiserate with him a bit.

The clownshoes in the studio, on the other hand, can go unceremoniously fark themselves. AFTER they’ve taken a remedial course in basic property law. Preferably by being beaten upside the head with a concrete version of the relevant statutes.
