Wow. There are few things I can really add after the two awesome contributions below. I fear that anything I might add will seem bloodless and trite by comparison, but that never stopped me in the past, so here goes:

I give thanks for the best family any man ever had. My patient wife who manages to put up with me (no small feat there) and, as if that wasn’t enough, manages to love me on top of it. And, of course, she’s the one who gave me two beautiful little boys and suffered mightily and bravely in the process, something for which no amount of thanks will ever be sufficient.

I give thanks for being an American, for being one of the lucky few to call this shining city on a hill home and, of course, thanks to America herself and her citizens for the warm, unconditional welcome I have been blessed with.

I give thanks to Almighty G-d for putting up with the grumpy, hedonistic atheist that I used to be for decades, all the while smiling patiently as He made wonders happen in my life regardless. While I may never have seen His face, I’m sure that, when I finally found Him, He had a warm smile on his face as he said “welcome home, my wayward son, I knew you’d find your way eventually.”

I give thanks for having the smartest, most compassionate and loyal readers and friends in the world, people that I, in many cases, have yet to meet in person but who, nevertheless, have always been there for me and mine as if we’d known each other forever and lived right next door to each other. A special thank you to the Rottie Staff™ for their tireless work in keeping this site full of excellent content even when I am being a lazy bastard and, of course, to the Imperial Tech Wizard Deej for keeping the pumps pumping and the pipes piping.

And last, but certainly not least, I give thanks to our military heroes, our brave, selfless men and women overseas without whom we’d be just another hole in the ground waiting for the next dictator with territorial aspirations to overrun us (that should have been written in fwench, by the way). I am grateful every day for what you do, what you sacrifice for our sakes here at home, but never more than when holidays roll around and I enjoy them with my family, knowing full well that I wouldn’t be doing so if it weren’t for YOU giving up the opportunity to do the same. And, like my wonderful wife, I would like to extend the same thanks to the families of our troops who are making the exact same sacrifice, only more so because it wasn’t their decision. But if it weren’t for those families’ support and love for their military loved ones’ decision, we most likely wouldn’t have any troops to speak of at all, because no Army can fight for long without the support of the ones they fight for.

Never forget that.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

We ARE next “door” to each others, I happened to be living slightly north of you… Thank you for the kind words, it is indeed an honour to be part of this family. I’m keeping a couple of cold Canadian beers aside for you and yours should you decide to pay us a visit. My door is always open…

Best Thanksgiving ever my American friends!

I was at Denver International Airport last night about 11:00 to pick up my oldest son. As we were waiting at baggage pickup for him I saw a young soldier standing around waiting for his family…I wandered over and wished him a happy thanksgiving and shook his hand and told him that there were more than a few of us who stood behind him and the hard work he was doing. He thanked me, called me sir and said that all he had done since getting off his plane was thanking people who thanked him….

that made me smile, there will BE no repeat of what happened during Vietnam….and for that I’m profoundly grateful.

    Have a Blessed Thanksgiving y’all.

Isn’t that wonderful, Jaybear…… I have come to suspect most folks support them and their efforts, regardless of politics. Far too many of us our age remeber the treatment of the ‘Nam vets. NEVER AGAIN! I’ll get my ass beat, or thrown in jail, but I will not tolerate that shit again!

That was a nice gesture, Jaybear, and I’m sure that soldier will spread the word about his experience.

NEVER AGAIN! I’ll get my ass beat, or thrown in jail, but I will not tolerate that shit again!

Been there, done that - San Diego, circa 1969. A carload of punks yelled some anti-Vietnam War, anti-Marine crap at me and a couple buddies as we were walking down the sidewalk. Unfortunately for them, they got caught up in traffic at a light, but equally unfortunately for us, the police arrived just as we surrounded the car and invited them out. We got to pass the rest of the evening in the San Diego City Jail - some hogwash about “Drunk in Public”. They let us out in the morning just in time to catch the last possible liberty launch that would get us back to North Island in time to avoid a UA beef. It was almost like they knew the schedule.

On another note, I think it might be good to take a few moments and reflect on the plight of those not so fortunate as us; those who don’t see any reason to be thankful for anything on this day. I’m talking, of course, about people like Larry Chomstein.

As you can probably guess, I’ll be spending today under my kitchen sink, stabbing myself in the thigh with a rusty fork as penance for over 200 years of white male hegemony.

Margaret Cho weighs in with a progressive Thankgiving salutation:

I do not call this a holiday. It’s like saying we need to celebrate Kristallnacht (if you don’t know what that is, you just ignant and need to spend a day at the Museum of Tolerance - because you are intolerable) by breaking a bunch of glass and eating bratwurst. We celebrate Thanksgiving to give thanks for giving all the native people crazy diseases that they never had. The turkey is stuffed with raped women, dead babies, warriors who were stripped of their ability to fight and could no longer protect their families - which to warriors - is a fate worse than death. Cranberry sauce is blood of Geronimo, Sitting Bull, the Comanches, the Braves. we just took it upon ourselves to evict the original OG old school United States and create our own U - whited States. I fast today. It is a sick joke to call this ‘holiday’ Thanksgiving. It should be called Thanks - taking. Taking a land that was not ours, taking the lives of millions. Today I say - “NO THANK YOU MOTHERFUCKER! I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON A PIECE OF TURKEY CARTILAGE!”

Ah liberals, their warm, effervescent, joie de vivre is simply irresistable! :em69:

    Misha,

I give thanks to Almighty G-d for putting up with the grumpy, hedonistic atheist that I used to be for decades, all the while smiling patiently as He made wonders happen in my life regardless. While I may never have seen His face, I’m sure that, when I finally found Him, He had a warm smile on his face as he said “welcome home, my wayward son, I knew you’d find your way eventually.”

    More Than Conquerors

    Romans 8:28-39 - KJV

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God has indeed blessed you richly, welcome home brother.
