The clip is taken from the film 2004 ‘Downfall’, depicting Hitler’s final days in his Berlin bunker just before the end of WWII. It’s a brilliant film, actually. I strongly recommend it.

Yes, it is Der Untergang, or The Downfall.

It was a very good movie depicting the final ten days of Adolf Hitler in his Berlin bunker and Nazi Germany in 1945, based in mainly in part on memoirs of Traudl Junge, Hitler’s secretary, but also on the memoirs of Allbert Speer, and Siegfried Knappe.

The movie was made in the eyes of Traudl Junge, who was witness to many of the events of the dictator’s last days.

It recently went to DVD and is available at Hollywood, Blockbuster, or Netflix.

Like I said, it is a good movie.

    [Oops, beaten to it. D’oh!]

If she didn’t speak using exaggerated hyperbole, she’d just be another pundit. She does try to push buttons, so that, hopefully, people will discuss the things the PC crowd won’t allow to be debated. Does she push the line sometime, yes, but it opens up the discussion, or at least a discussion of why we aren’t allowed to discuss it.

Even my non-Rottie right-wing death beast debater says “I’m not trying to be Ann Coulter here.”

He doesn’t have to be Ann. He’s just putting up the shield of “If you want to discuss this, here’s my opinion”, you may or may not agree with it, but he does have the right to state it without prior condemnation. Think of how your views have been slightly altered in just the last few months because you were willing to debate with the people you probably thought hadn’t a clue.

I have seen Ann outside of the media limelight. She could care less about the crap she writes or talks about as she is promoting her most recent book.

She is quickly running out of steam, and the ONLY thing that will save her is a Democratic President in 2008.

I know there are those here who don’t believe me — and frankly I could care less. If you want to be blindly taken in by someone whose only motive is to separate you from your money, then so be it.

I didn’t intend for this thread to be a political one. I just thought that the video Mike M linked to in another thread was funny and I needed a video to test out the new video embed plugin I installed here.

BTW: I asked on another thread whether anyone has experienced any problems with the new way the comments post on this site. Unfortunately, I forgot where I posted that — or nobody answered me.

Besides, what she lacks in facts and substance, she makes up ten-fold in viciousness. Some great writer.

Oh no, not the old “her facts are all wrong” canard, Deej. I’ve heard that one so many times now that I’ve lost count, yet it remains a fact that she’s quite well-researched and that nobody has ever managed to catch her in a major blooper. But I guess if you keep repeating it, you’ll eventually start believing it.

I mean sure she uses hyperbole and sure she goes where no-one dares to go (except for liberals, who have been doing it for decades without anybody questioning their “over-the-top-ness”), but her salient points remain true and her devastating little quips remain tied to reality. And I love the hyperbole, but I don’t have to tell you that ;)
Yes, she’s quite mean and wields satire and sarcasm like a master, but that’s exactly why I love what she writes. She drives her opponents crazy, she does to the dim-witted socialist pricks what they’ve been doing to us for years, only she’s much better at it. I love it when they cry, wail, moan and gnash their teeth over something she said, I’m positively thrilled when they throw themselves at the latest “outrage”, trying to blow it out of all proportions in a vain and utterly futile (redundancy, I know) hope that this time they’ll nail her and nobody will ever listen to her again, only to see her appear on more shows and sell even more books. Watching the likes of Reid, Durbin, Rangel and all the other lying scumbag swine hammering their pointed little swines’ heads against the wall over and over again, chasing that football only to have Lucy pull it away and land them flat on their backs almost gives me a heart attack from laughing.

Is she over the top? Oh yes, from time to time she most definitely is, and that’s just how I like it. I’ve had it to my back teeth with the bloodless c*nts at “respected” conservative publications tripping over themselves to observe their self-imposed civility rules, courtesies that never have and never will be reciprocated by the other side. If I want boring, vapid and flat, I tune in to C-SPAN or read the obituaries (actually, the latter can be rather fun, but maybe that’s just me), and she is none of the above. The coma-inducing blatherheads of the “respectable” right and their “play along to get along” policy can go hump themselves in anatomically impossible ways for all that I care, they bore me to tears and I find it pathetic that after decades of being abused, insulted, libeled and slandered by the Loony Left, they still think that “being nice” is the answer. But hey, if that’s the way they like it, if they prefer bending over again and again and saying “please, sir, may I have another?”, then they can do it for all that I care. As long as they don’t expect me to pay attention to their verbal anaesthetics.

And yes, I know full well that she’s deliberate about producing those outrages. She’s a writer. She makes a living from selling books. If you’re a writer and nobody knows who the fuck you are or care one whit about what you write, then you end up patting yourself on the back over selling 50 copies of a book and making it all the way to five digits on Amazon’s ratings ladder, to which I can only say “whoop-de-fucking-doo.”

Does that mean that she doesn’t mean a thing that she writes? Not necessarily, but even that is utterly irrelevant. What she writes is still true, and it still makes for one heck of a read. I don’t for a second believe that she could write like that unless she believed in it, nobody could, but again: It doesn’t matter. Who cares? When I go to the movies, do I give a flip whether the producer gave a flying fuck about the movie itself? If it’s a great ride, I’m happy. That’s what I paid for. I didn’t pay to “look into the writer’s soul and understand the true man behind the story”, I couldn’t care less if I sat down and meditated on supreme indifference for a fortnight, he can take his soul and shove it for all that I care, unless looking into it happens to entertain me, the paying customer.

Do her books ring true to me, do they treat the subject matter in the way that I would like to see it treated, does she hammer a few nails in squarely with her writing, does she cook some PC, liberal geese and slaughter some socialist holy cows in the process, does she drive her targets mad with frustration and, most importantly: Am I ENTERTAINED?

That’s what I care about and yes, they do and she does.

There have been many people who have debunked her books. Much of her footnoted material is taken way out of context.

Granted, you could say the same thing about Michael Moore too.

And you could say the same thing about the “debunkings” too, at least the ones I’ve read, that generally fall into the category of “HA! Her footnote says that this was from the Times’ Sept. 18 issue from 1987, but it was really in the Oct. 18 issue!!!!ONE!!!1!!!! Ergo, everything she’s ever said was wrong.”

Better debunkings may exist, but I haven’t heard of them, and I’m sure they’d be all over the place if they amounted to anything.

But like I said, the Ann of the media spotlight is about 180 degrees of the Ann away from the spotlight. You are buying into a facade, not the reality. THAT is the point I am trying to make her.

And the thing is that you’re wrong about that, Deej. Maybe not the facade thing, though I doubt it. Again, I don’t honestly for a second believe that anybody could write like that without believing in what he or she wrote. Maybe put differently, but the salient points would be the same. I promise, I don’t go around saying “fucknozzle” and “scumsucking pustule on the scrotum of humanity” at least twice in every sentence in public, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in every single point I’ve ever made here. Anyway, where you’re wrong, at least as far as I’m concerned, is in the “buying into a facade” thing. I really honestly don’t care if Ann walks around in private acting and speaking like she writes, I’m not buying her books to become a fly on her wall and a part of her private life, it’s all utterly unimportant to me. She could be a mild-mannered grandma in Idaho with too many cats for all that I care. The only things I’m buying are her books and what is in them.

If those contents were all bullshit and didn’t resonate with me at all, then I wouldn’t buy them. Simple as that. As to who “The Real Ann” is, I don’t care.

By that definition, I could claim to be an LC. If it means being a member of the VRWC, absolutely not. What is the definition?

Oh dear. That one is always a thorny one to define, but no, you don’t have to be a card-carrying member of the VRWC to be one, although card-carrying members of the VRWC tend to be the ones most likely to adopt the title.

I tend to fall back on the short version of the definition when asked, so here goes: “If you’re nuts enough to voluntarily want to call yourself an LC of the Rottie Empire, then you’re certainly nuts enough to BE one, so have at it!” ;-)

Of course, in your case you’d be a G.L.O.R. as well, since the ladies adopted that title for themselves and I’m, frankly, too afraid to argue with them. They’re mean. And well-armed too.

Do any Rotties have any objections to this lady’s adoption as an LC and a G.L.O.R.? If so, speak now or we shall consider it done.

The LC term doesn’t denote a loyalty just to this page, but a bigger loyalty to your country, the folks in it and the people who love it, whatever their nationality or persuasion.

An LC has a marked inability to sit by the side during an emergency. A penchant for filling in missing pieces in stories, machines,,friends,, y’ know. Get ‘er up and workin’ again.

Better debunkings may exist, but I haven’t heard of them, and I’m sure they’d be all over the place if they amounted to anything.

They would be if publishers weren’t paying attention to the money they make off of her instead of the facts. Besides, most people barely know who Ann Coulter is, let alone care what she says. It is only the tiny percentage of us who pay attention to these kinds of things.

But you have to look for them — they are there

Most of Ann’s friends are Liberal/Progressives — at least when she isn’t in the spotlight somewhere.

I have only met Ann once, at a convention several years ago. But I have a couple of friends who know her very well. They won’t name names or specifics, but they have told me some generalizations.

If you had paid attention here, you would have heard me bellyache a LOT about Hosing Matters. Misha tolerates them, but there are times he isn’t happy with them. I took ALL of my stuff off of their servers a long time ago.

I can set you up with a hosting account for a measily $8 per month — billable for three months at a block. (Next billing is in February) My server is far more reliable and faster than anything Hosing Matters can offer. It is also located right on top of the major West coast InterTube with multiple redundant connections. See how fast MY site is?

There is another route for you: Try setting up a Wordpress.com website as a starter. They have VERY reliable servers and if you want you can upgrade your account with your own domain name.

Here’s where I’m at….Right now I’m scratching my head… as I don’t understand why my “publish” from my PC to thier site in Front Page is not working..and Yes I enabled the frontend function.

My new domain name is 454monte.com however the emails I get from HM is stating that I should access MY control panel through one of thier DNS servers, so I am guessing that my domain isnt stood up on it’s own(?)

Am I going to have to set up a domain controller? That seems way over the top for someone with no background to be expected to do, I can do it because I work in the field but that seems to me unlikely…I have a server sitting here unused as well but I wasn’t really thrilled with hosting from my 512k pipe as I already share that with two other folks.

..long haird hippy liberal or not

Long haired? I used to shave my head on a daily basis. Now I just have it waxed every month. (you haven’t lived until you can handle having someone hot wax your head)

Let me see if I can clear some of the dust for you with Hosing matters…

I am guessing that you are using FrontPage to create your website? If so, which version? Try uninstalling and cleaning up the FrontPage extentions and then reinstalling them.

Also, how old is the domain name? It doesn’t even show up in domaintools as registered yet, which tells me that you JUST registered it with the hosting account.

IF this is the case, it will take up to 72 hours for the domain name to “propagate” throughout the InterTube. So trying to set up your site is going to be difficult — if not impossible — for the next day or two.

Theoretically, you could publish through the IP address, but I have found that FrontPage is not all that reliable in posting that way.

Personally, I would set your site up using a blogging platform such as WordPress — Like this one uses. It requires no special software, and you can style it any way you wish. FrontPage is no longer supported by MicroShaft — it was replaced by “Expressions” — an xml -based publishing system that is going nowhere.

You have your head waxed? That’s all you….that’s gotta hurt!

You’re right the Domain is only about 24 hours old.

As I flounder and fidgit with it ..I’m learning that Front Page is a PITA! But I’ve almost got it.

I am using FP 2003 and haven’t yet decided to pull the trigger on the latest stuff from Microsoft.

What I’m learning is that HM will not enable the front end extensions on thier “Donatelo” Server…and until I actually have a domain to publish to nothing is gonna work on the site all that well. No themes now linky love…*sigh* FUCK! Wish I had known all of this before hand…LOL

    Thanks again Deej.

Naw — it doesn’t hurt much. Besides, the pain is only momentary — and refreshing.

What I’m learning is that HM will not enable the front end extensions on thier “Donatelo” Server…and until I actually have a domain to publish to nothing is gonna work on the site all that well.

Well, honestly, the only servers that work well with FrontPage are Windows servers. The Linux servers like what HM uses (and what I use) have FrontPage Extensions, but they tend to break easily. I can see why HM has some servers that they won’t enable FP Extensions on.

Like I said earlier — why not just go with a php-based publishing platform like WordPress? You have everything you need on the server including the SQL database. And it makes the most sense.

If the Silentwulf admin had followed the lead of the San Francisco Chronicle and Think Progress by employing this trick, the Little Corporal would never have known he was banned. Thus, the entire course of history may have changed.

    OK, I’ll read through the rest of this later, bit I just had to respond to 29ID when he wrote this;

Ask 0311crunchie what came first, the 03 or the 01 :em95:

Good question? I’ll answer with a joke an old Bn Exec told us once (for the uninitiated 01 is the MOS prefix for admin, 03 for infantry. 0311 is the MOS for Marine rifleman, 0331 machine gunner etc.)

Three Marines were sitting in the slop chute drinking beers and arguing about who was the real Marine and who had the most important job.

The admin poge…er Marine said that he was the most important because with out him none of the others would be paid or even exist as far as the Corps was concerned. Plus, when in the field he had to pull exterior guard and do the grunts work as well.

The supply Marine said that he was the most important because without him no one else would have the tools to do their jobs.

The grunt Marine smacked them both and said “Everything else is just support”.

So they decided they would let God decide and sent a letter to Sky 6 asking who was the most important Marine.

God replied in a letter the next night.

    “Dear Marines.

Each and every Marine, regardless of MOS, performs a vital role in fulfilling the Corps mission of killing its nations enemies. You each are a valued member of the Marine Corps team and no MOS is superior to any other.

    Signed
    God,
    Commanding Officer
    0311″

Sorry it took you so long to be infantry 29ID, but at least you’re no longer just support.

I made it about half-way through that horrid site that you found. gave up during that long manifesto. Where does it mention the Rott?

‘Twas Caveman found the site & posted the link first. He was recommending a item about “gun nuts,” but when I looked the site over & found out what it was like, I questioned its compatibility with the Rott. (The Rott’s not mentioned there to my knowledge, nor would The Management™ wish it to be.)

I understood that a Marine is a Marine is a Marine… but thank you both for the clarification!

And of course, here’s one “war story” about my first encounter with a Marine…

I once walked towards a building at Nellis AFB during a Red Flag exercise (back in the Stone Age) where a young Marine was standing guard (turned out the bldg was some hangar where missiles and other weapons were stored), I was really looking for a place where I could get my mask checked out (would not hold the comms fitting properly). Although I DID ask where to find the proper shop, I missed it and walked too far. The Marine ask me very politely my business and ID, and when I pointed at an alley between the two hangars that might have taken me back to the proper shop he simply said “Wouldn’t do that Sir” “Why not” I foolishly asked… “Because I’ll have to call my Master Sergeant to help me drag your carcass back here Sir”. I then noticed the “Out of Bounds” sign posted near the hangars…

Well, at least he was polite about it… and I did find the proper technical shop once I retraced my steps. They checked out my mask properly, got the snag sorted out (very minor thing actually) and told me I could count on their support anytime. But I still wonder if that young Marine would have called the Sergeant or just drag my body back himself…

You have NO IDEA how pleased your proudly displaying the LC makes me feel! Are you going to use GLOR as well?

Of course, I will be rejoicing with a couple of cold ones to properly celebrate this special occasion. Wish you and your hubby could join the Missus and I for said rejoicing! If you’ve ever been to Canada, you know how hospitable we can be.

I disagree with you. Nearly everyone I have ever talked to knows who she is, and I’d lay you odds that there aren’t too many libs in this country who don’t know the name, at least.

I suspect that your circle of friends are all pretty like-minded individuals.

But I do have to ask: do you actually bring Ann’s name up with every person you speak with?

In the real world — where politics is something that you only think of the day before an election (if even then), most people don’t know who Ann Coulter is nor do they even care.

I would venture to say that most people have a very basic awareness of politics. They know what it is, they might even know some of the names, but other than that — bupkiss. They know “Politician” and they know “Not-a-Politician”. The former are always up to no good and the later is the one complaining about it.

Everyone here is a news/political junkie (they have 12-step programs for that I am sure). So if the only people you know or hang around with are news/political junkies, then yes, everyone you talk to knows Ann.

Most people would have trouble picking Ann out of a lineup of pipe cleaners.

Actually Hardclimber, he would have called the Sergeant of the Guard, reported where yer carcass was, the SOG would verify it, and then told him to drag it out his self.

You got the polite treatment because you was one of them there feriners. A Navy officer he would have let go with out the warning just so he could have a carcass to play with :em93:

I remember when we went through an NTPI inspection (Any sailor or Marine ever associated with “special weapons” knows what that is, eh JB?) A squid officer, part of the inspection team, tried to inspect a Marines rifle while he was on post. He was politely told ONCE not to ask to inspect his rifle as he was not part of the Marines COC. His second attempt earned him a butt stroke and a broken jaw. The Marine received a Meritorious Mast (thats a pat on the back) and quite a few beers for butt stroking an officer, and a squid officer at that. Damn I miss the Corps!
