Missed this one initially because I was busy, but I just learned of it from LC & IB Mike.

Looks like the CIA destroyed tapes of interrogations of terrorists and, for what it’s worth, I’m with Bryan of Hot Air on this one.

The noodle-spined weasel parasites in DC just decided that the well-being and comfort of terrorists is more important to them than the lives of their voters, and then they passed the buck downwards to the interrogators. Shit rolls downhill, and the career bureaucrats in DC produce a lot of it.

So what’s the CIA to do? All of a sudden the clowns in DC have decided that interrogating terrorists is illegal if it goes beyond withholding the sugar from their tea, so obviously the interrogators are worried that they might end up in a lot of retroactive trouble. And don’t forget that those “illegal” interrogation methods led to a lot of actionable intel that saved a LOT of lives, something worth remembering before you start weeping over the plights of terrorists in custody.

Oh, and as LC & IB Mike mentions, it gets worse. Even His Imperial Omniscience didn’t know about that one, and it tells us all we need to know about our “Eternal Friends” the Saudis and the Pakistanis as well.

Read the post, but here’s a summary: We trick a terrorist into thinking that he’s being held by the Saudis. As a result, he demands that he speak to some of his friends in the Saudi government, three of them to be exact. He also fingered the chief of the Pakistani air force.

We then pass the info along to our “friends” the Saudis and Pakis and, coincidence of coincidence, all four of them suddenly have tragic and fatal “accidents.”

Yep, the Saudis and Pakis sure are “reliable and loyal friends” and a “valuable asset” in the Long War.

And the Saudi’s and the Paki’s have NEVER been ‘allies’, they have been ‘associates’, nothing more. The Saudi’s fund more Wahabbi sects in our country than anyone.

With “allies” like these, who needs ennemies!?!? The term “accomplices to terrorism” is the right one to use. Pakistan has been sheltering and aiding taliban murderous swine since their creation, and the Saudis have been playing both sides of the table for at least as long.

You really want Pakistan to become a “true ally”. Cut the military and economic aid entirely and immediately.
See how quickly Osama baby is suddently “found” and delivered, along with a bunch of taliban and al-quaeda operatives. Pigslamist will take over you say? They already have, in a sense. The only difference would be to force Pakistan into either being an “ally against terror” or show it as the true support of terror that it really is.

The Saudis, well, call them liars to their faces and produce undisputable evidence of their treachery for the world to see, MAKE them lose face. Same story, guaranteed you will find a pile of terrorists bodies suddently show up for the cameras…

The CIA operatives aren’t stupid, they know they can be easily sacrificed on the altar of political expediency, and they are protecting themselves accordingly. Can’t say I blame them…

So, let me get this straight… We capture a guy and make him think he’s being held by the Saudis. Then, after he directly fingers 4 compadres, all four wind up dead… and we’re UPSET by that? At the very least, these people were terrorist sympathizers. At the worst they were directly involved in the 9/11 attacks. Isn’t that the sort of behaviour we’d LIKE to see from our allies regarding terrorist scum? I mean, perhaps they were offed to protect people higher up in the Saudi or Pakistani Govt’s, but 4 known terrorist associates eliminated IS what most people in the US would call “a good start”!

Also, if this interrogation was all conducted in Farsi, or whatever the Saudis speak, wouldn’t there still be translation records and transcripts available? I should think so, unless ALL records were destroyed, which would clearly indicate that there was MORE region-destabilizing information on those tapes than has been revealed to the public.

Please note that, in spite of the ongoing war on terrorism, there have been no more attacks in the U.S. since 2001. Either the Saudis are playing for a “grand end-game solution” (i.e. nuclear arms) and don’t want others to muddy up their playing field (harder to import a nuclear weapon with strict security in the U.S.), or they were genuinely pissed off that some of their own had been implicated, and took steps to “clean house” immediately. Blowing up the Pakistani’s air force chief’s airplane probably sent a clear message to any other associates which would have been unmistakable. “Do NOT do that again.”

Yeeeeeah. Hiding out with a small band of fellow goat-molesters in stinking caves and being constantly on the move, looking over one’s shoulder, 24/7, is what most of us would call “living free and without worry“.

    :em72:

As for your beloved Slick Willie & Wes Clark and their unilateral, non-UN-sanctioned war in the Balkans, ya’ might wanna STFU when it comes to hunting down and capturing war criminals or terrorists, if you want to keep even a shred of credibility. OBL’s been hiding (IF he’s actually alive) in the most mountainous, warlord-infested, lawless corner of the Earth. The guys ol’ Wes was supposed to be looking for are hiding in plain sight, right there in EUnuchistan.

And The Arkansas Hillbilly Rapist™ had OBL handed to him on a fuckin’ platter, not just once, but multiple times, and passed on him like Michael Moore-on at a salad bar.

Since nobody seems to like MY sources for information, I thought I would switch up a bit and give you something from NewsMax first:

December 2000: The CIA recommended to the incoming Bush administration to arm the Predator drone and send it over Afghanistan. Bush, however, does not give the necessary nod until after 9/11.

March 2001: The Russian Permanent Mission at the United Nations secretly submits a detailed report to the U.N. Security Council about bin Laden and his network. Reportedly, the U.S. failure to follow up on the particulars of the report is part of what motivates Jane’s Intelligence Review to conclude that the attacks of 9/11 were less of an American intelligence failure than the result of a political decision not to act against bin Laden.

Of course, there is no assurance that taking out bin Laden would have prevented 9/11.

At the very beginning of his administration in 2000, President Bush reportedly asked the CIA whether killing bin Laden would end the problem of terrorism. He was advised that killing the al-Qaida chieftain would have an impact, but wouldn’t end the threat. The 9/11 Commission also catalogued a series of tragic errors that occurred in the days counting down to 9/11.

Key case in point: Zacarias Moussaoui aroused suspicion for seeking fast-track training on how to pilot large jet airliners. He was arrested on Aug. 16, 2001, for violations of immigration regulations.

In late August, officials in the intelligence community also realized that terrorists spotted in Southeast Asia in January 2000 had arrived in the United States. Among them were some of the 9/11 hijackers.

Tragically, no one working on these leads late in the summer of 2001 connected them to the high level of threats being reported.

As the commission summarized it, “In the words of one official, no analytic work foresaw the lightning that could connect the thundercloud to the ground.”

I would have to disagree about the assertion of taking out bin Laden wouldn’t have prevented 9/11, but the fact remains that the Bush administration had a couple of chances also, and failed.

But hey, why stop there. FOX News military analyst, Colonel David Hunt reports that we could have killed Osama as late as this past AUGUST — but didn’t.

Assuming of course that he’s not an anonymous smear on an anonymous cave wall somewhere in the mountains.

I think it has been pretty much established that he still lives, and reports are that he is living in relative comfort — not in caves, but hiding in plain site under the protection of the Pakistan government.

As has been the case, time and again, the treasonous assholes on the Left are crying “Foul!”, when, all along, they’ve known all about the CIA methodologies used to get information from terrorists.

    Game. Set. Match. :em41:

Purposely emboldening one’s enemy and weakening one’s own country’s security for political game? In another time, this would be called “treason & sedition” and would have led to the gallows for those engaging in it.

You need to look no further than Daily Kos and DU. They’re having shit fits over this.

DU commenter KharmaTrain sums up their position pretty well:

It had to be extremely frustrating for most Democrats who were briefed on the crimes of this regime and, not only had no power to do anything about it, but if they leaked (and it could easily be traced), they’d be facing criminal charges.

Here’s another right wing attempt to distract attention from the real crimes and criminals. Hopefully some people here are smart enough to see through this game.

Probably they were croaked specifically to keep them from fingering more terrorist scum. As Saturday Night Live’s Church lady would say, “Isn’t that convenient?”

I would have to disagree about the assertion of taking out bin Laden wouldn’t have prevented 9/11,

How would that have prevented it? AQ made the plans long before that September and the men were in place, with plenty of money to carry it forward and access to more. Cutting off the head of al Qaeda might have killed the organization at that point but the body would still have thrashed around causing plenty of damage.

Our intelligence people aren’t super-human. They’re put in a position that would drive most people bonkers in a short time, not that I’m excusing the destruction of evidence, but for me it’s easier to forgive someone whose actions would tend to protect me than someone whose actions would threaten me. I think we need some clear cut policies in place. I just don’t think we need to publicize them, maybe some key members of the Senate intelligence committee clued in on what they are with appropriate warnings about loosening the policies if the present ones are leaked along with a stretch in prison for treason for the one leaking.
