LC Lorraine was the first to alert us to the double church shooting that occurred right after the massacre in Omaha, but we got a bit tied up in business and never had a chance to post on it until now.

But let’s recap:

Mall directors violate citizens’ rights to self-defense, paint big bull’s-eyes on their chests and backs and this is what happens.

Another crazy goes nuts and tries to commit mass murder, only in this case an armed, law-abiding citizen is present at the scene of the second shooting. This is what happens.

Any questions?

I’m with the Imperial Firearms Advisor. I will either flat out refuse to set foot in a facility that demands the right to tie my hands behind my back and let a psychotic murderer have his merry way with me and my loved ones, OR I will violate the law and carry anyway.

The owners of the Westroads Mall are accomplices to eight counts of murder. The blood of the innocent are as much on their hands as it is on the murdering swine who at least had the good sense to kill himself, thus saving us from having to waste a red cent on his upkeep while the bleeding hearts tried to get him off the hook with sad tales of woe on a cold potty.

The owners of that mall are murderers. They’re criminally negligent and I hope and pray that they’re sued into oblivion, driven to suicide and made to rot in Hell for all of eternity.

Right next to the goblin whose actions they aided and abetted by helpfully rendering his victims unarmed and defenseless.

G-d bless Jean Assam abundantly for her heroic actions that saved the lives of possibly hundreds of people inside that church.

What is it going to take to stop these murder suicides? I’m presuming that the gunman would have saved the last bullet for himself after slaughtering as many people as he could. I cannot think of an answer.

I second Dori’s comment above. Though I don’t know what it will take to stop the murder-suicides. They (IMNSHO) are a sad bi-product of the human condition. That the media will feed on these bits of societal ditrus says as much about our fascination with blood and circuses as it does about the media itself.

As far as the GFW’s. the politically correct ninnies. and the progressive/statist/socialistic turds out there who seek to use the one millionth of one percent of the gene pool to advance THEIR agenda. They are as guilty as the Mall owners/college campus boards, and all others. who much like Pilot tried to wipe the blood (responsibility) from their hands … and failed. Murderers all.

I certainly hope that they will. And, judging by the mall trying to cover their arses by retroactively removing their “gun free zone” signs, they’ve realized that they might be in deeper shit than they thought possible.

Nor can I, Dori, but I link it it the permissive social sickness pervading our society now. I remember when guns at schools were unheard of, planes never got blown up and churches were revered and respected. Now it seems these suicidal maniacs can’t even face their own self-hatred, so they exteriorize it by killing those around them. Maybe Elijah is right, we put all our faith in lawyers and none anywhere else, the siren song of easy loot beckons…….but I can remember another great American tradition too, and it didn’t involve lawyers.

call me archaic but I believe that all of this stems from the Godlessness of our modern society. So many of our young people have been taught (by their 60’s generation elders) that nothing matters but the self….nothing is more important than YOU. The lives of unborn babies, and innocent people, and the preservation of the soul are irrelevant…life is meaningless if you believe that there is nothing after it. God is dead, to quote the drug addled revolutionaries of 40 years ago.

These burnt out misguided counter culture freaks are glorified as leading a revolution of openness and experimentation and alternative lifestyles and glorifying oneself….and look what it has wrought:
    -rampant drug use
    -skyrocketing suicide rates
-a meteoric rise in sexual diseases
    -anarchy in our public schools
-a generation that is rudderless, ever dependant on a nanny state just to get through the day
-soulless mindless violence, bordering on atrocities
-intolerance of everything that they perceive as impeding their lifestyle, aimed mostly at anything religious

All brought to you by the Woodstock generation, and do you think for a moment that they or their godless offspring have any regret for the havoc they are wreaking? Not for a moment, you need a conscience or a soul to feel remorse, and they gave theirs up long ago.

We as a society and a nation are paying a steep price for the ideals born of the ’60s…..

I’m lucky enough to teach in a high school where the Pledge of Allegiance is said every morning, and they still have a Veterans Day assembly, and they flew the flags at half-staff on December 7th. Does your school have a JROTC/NJROTC? cause it sure sounds like a great place for one. I would love to teach high school history, but am afraid the climate of political correctness and left leaning blathering idiots (and not talking about the students btw *grin*) would drive me up the wall.

And I think my kids hate Pearl Harbor Day … cause I make them watch Victory at Sea (on DVD) and do chalk talk afterwards. Homeschooling has its advantages.

As for the cause of the nut jobs out there shooting up the schools/malls/churches. Yeah, faith (or rather lack there of) is a part of the puzzle. But stupid government edicts (Gun free zones/FOID cards) and the collective “US” allowing our responsibilities to be taken over by the government, probably plays as big in the over all picture.

Most baby boomer glorifiers point to our generation as the one that ended the rampant racism in this country. The baby boomers civil rights leaders are scammers like jackson and sharpton, they are walking talking self-contradictions…slave-mongers of the worst kind.

    Caveman,

I was brought up to believe that hippies were the most disgusting thing in the country…rotten and smelly on the inside as well as the outside. A belief I still carry because most of them are hypocrites.

I’ll never forget..when I was around 5 or 6 years old, flashing a peace sign to this hippie couple making out in the back of a VW Beetle as we were driving home from my grandparents’ house…and getting a “if looks could kill” look from the f’ugly male of that couple. Drove home to me, at that young age, that those freaks weren’t all “flower power, love, and peace” like they wanted the media to portray them as being. Just of bunch of selfish ungrateful brats who wanted to do whatever the hell they wanted without the consequences. Fuck them all. I hated them then, and I still do.

    Caveman

I remember when guns at schools were unheard of,

the reason it was unheard of is because it wasn’t shouted from the rooftops like it is now. my first was in 1968. my high school had just been integrated. i was 17. i had stepped out of the bandroom to go to the bathroom and found myself facing a boy with a gun in his hand. i don’t know what possessed me but i looked him in the eye and said ‘what the hell do you think you’re doing?’ he said he was there to kill the n-r that was dating the white girl. i laughed and told him ‘you’ve got six bullets and there are 200 of us (the band), there wont even be a greasy spot left of you and you have to go through me first.’ he turned and ran off, i realised i didn’t need the bathroom anymore so i went back in and told the band director what had happened. the boy was suspended and sent to a local mental hospital. the gun was a loaded .38 . no police, no trial, no headlines. i never even told my parents.

Mall directors violate citizens’ rights to self-defense, paint big bull’s-eyes on their chests and backs and this is what happens.

Allow me to play devils advocate here for a moment. Yes, I have said this in the other threads here and I will mention it here.

The reason why you have “Gun-Free Zones” in malls is not to deprive someone of their “rights” to carry or defend, it has everything to do with the insurance carriers and liability issues.

For some reason this has all been labeled as some sort of PC Gun-Taking scheme to deprive you of your Second Amendment right to bear arms.

While a shopping mall is open to the public, it is still private property, and Constitutional rights aren’t enforceable on private property, so it isn’t really a case of a private owner denying your rights.

I know that I am a liberal talking about guns so whatever I say is automatically going to be read as a call for gun control no matter what I say or how I say it.

I know it is easy to point the blame finger at the mall ownership. They are just covering their butts. If they want to operate, they have to protect themselves with insurance, and the insurance companies dictate the terms of that insurance.

    Now you have a choice:

You can either ignore the “Gun-Free Zone” prohibitions and take a chance of violating the ‘rules’ of the property or establishment, or you can just refuse to go there.

I think that in most cases, property owners will quietly support your desire to carry a firearm — if for no other reason than to be that defense against a criminal and insane shooter. But just don’t ask them to publically open their arms to the idea.

I remember when guns at schools were unheard of,

Really? Most of the kids in my school brought rifles to school and kept them in the principal’s office for after school hunting.

It’s not so much an issue of kindness my friend, nor is it an issue of a belief in religion it’s more a belief in something or someone (God as you understand him according to Step3 of AA 12 steps) as a Higher Power that keeps you accountable for your actions. I had an old friend who died of lung cancer in the early 90’s who used to say “I’d rather live my life as if there were a God and find out there wasn’t, than live my life as if there weren’t a God and find out there was”…….

I’m just glad I grew up when I did, with the parents/teachers/authority figures that I had. The complete lack of any consequences, if you fuck up now it is appalling, for every right you have or that you think you have there is a responibilty that goes along with it and if we as a sociaty keep coddling the youth and sticking up for them and suing when a teacher or anybody for that matter looks at them funny, and not explaining to them subtely or not so subtley that they fucked up your gonna keep seeing this get worse and worse. I know DJ is gonna disagree, but keep all references to a “HIGHER BEING” out of young peoples lives, and we are heading down a road I don’t wan’t to be on, and for the record I haven’t been to church since last year when my grandmother died, but I still believe, in what I was taught, and what is right, that you can’t go though life thinking it’s all about you and how you feel. For every action there are repercussions, good or bad. Like the knight gaurding the Holy Grail said in Indiana Jones and the last crusade “you must choose wisely”

Unfortunatelly due to the manner in which Nebraska CCW laws are written that sign carries the weight of the law, so they aren’t just ‘rules.’ If they were just ‘rules’, as in most areas, the worst that would happen to use is you’d get a tresspassing charge if you refused to leave after your concealed weapon was discovered.

I was raised Christian, and I try to do the right thing. I never believed in any higher power, even kharma.

…..try to do the right thing by whose guidelines??? just asking, my friend. Left to my own devices and self-will I would still be a drug addled alcoholic today. I thank the guidance of God for giving me the strength to do something about that anvil around my neck, as there’s no way in hell I could have mustered the strength to do it alone.

    Sir Chris,

there was a week in late June of 1972 in Denver, when Jethro Tull…Led Zeppelin…and The Stones all played concerts. I went to all three and swear that I have hearing damage to this day, not to mention getting teargassed at Tull……ahhhhhh, the memories of youth. Funny, I was thinking the same thing as you, if Zep toured the US….I’d go, just to blow out what hearing I have left

In the days of my youth, I was told what it was to be a man,
Now I’ve reached the age I’ve tried to do all those things the best I can

    :em95: too freeekin cool

These burnt out misguided counter culture freaks are glorified as leading a revolution of openness and experimentation and alternative lifestyles and glorifying oneself….and look what it has wrought:

Don’t lose heart, Jaybear. My generation is quickly hitting it’s stride and a lot of us are engaged in a hyper-intensity counter-Counter-Culture.

Look at a lot of our music (Flyleaf, Skillet, Ev, and the fact that rap sales are PLUMMETING). Look at the movies and games being aimed at us (300, Chronicles of Narnia, Halo). For every high profile political activist like RightHandGirl over at Pat Dollard there are 100 others that merely whisper to our agemates about honor, faith, charity, love, responsibility….

    @DJ Allyn,

I’m a long-time lurker, very infrequent commenter. I know you are the “house Lefty”, so to speak, but what you’re saying is perfectly reasonable. You’re pretty rational for a Lefty…

The issue is not so much whether the mall was a ‘Gun Free Zone’ - as a CCW holder, trust me, that puts me on edge - but rather the owners, after having deprived their clientelle of the right to legitimately provide their own self-defense, failed to accept the responsibility to provide it themselves. There’s the crux of the matter.

For instance, when I board an airplane, I am 100% giving up my ability to control events… only because I trust that the flight crew has been thoroughly trained to take off, fly, and land that plane. Or else I’d never set foot on it. And, for the most part, the airlines have at least provided that in the U.S. But, if I were to find out that the flight crew I so easily entrusted with my life were underqualified or, even, incapable of flying the plane, I’d back out.

Walking into a ‘Gun Free Zone’, such as a mall, where the crowd is irrationally afraid of CCW holders… well, I expect that, in return, their staff would be properly trained - and drilled! - in providing the defense they so adamantly insist I give up. And that’s where they have failed, DJ. On our campuses, in our malls - and that’s why the example of the volunteer security guard rings such a bell with us gun nuts. She took the responsibility to provide the security. Would that the folks who run that mall in Nebraska, or the one in Utah, or the campus authorities in Virginia would have adequately done so.

(Please note that I said “adequately”. 15 rent-a-cops on campus does not constitute “adequate”.)

P.S. If I recall correctly, you are the one who performs the maintenance on this site. If my now aging mind is correctly remembering, kudos for your efforts.

I went through all of the school shooting cases a few years ago, and a surprising number of the shooters were Christian.

Not everyone who claims to be a Christian IS a Christian. A true Christian wouldn’t blow up abortion clinics, or shoot up schools (or YWAM bases). They pray, instead, and protest without violence.

A sad irony to the Colorado shootings is that the shooter was allegedly home-schooled. Listen for the hue and cry about how home-schooling should now be prohibited. Never mind that most of the school shooters of the past were products of government indoctrination camps (thanks, Neal Boortz!) That won’t matter to the left.

As you believe in a retake of your proud nation by our generation, I believe that we can also do this in Europe. We have the same amount of self-destructive idiocy running around, if not more, but we will retake our proud continent. The decades to come will belong to neither China nor Islam, they will belong to a unified front consisting of the US and Europe, the New West.

If they want to operate, they have to protect themselves with insurance, and the insurance companies dictate the terms of that insurance.

Yeah, it’s a long way from comment 19. I guess the optimistic viewpoint is that if sued, the mall owners won’t pay, the insurance company will. Then the actuaries might get to work and figure out that gun-free malls have higher liability. Rates go up for gun-free malls, down for gun-allowing malls.

Folks, just a last “addentum” here. I am an atheist, always have been. I come from a line of freethinkers who have proven to be decent, hard working and noble. My father, and his father before him had a sense of honour that would have made a Klingon proud, and so do I. My children are atheists/freethinkers as well, but I encouraged them to read ALL of the religious books known to mankind, yes, just like my father did for me. And rest assured that my children are also decent, common sensed, loyal and helpful. Being an atheist/agnostic/freethinker is NOT an exclusive “liberal” trait. And it does NOT make me or my children bad people. We believe in honour, loyalty, courage, honesty and common sense.

I have served my country for 25 years, my oldest son is now in is 17th year, my youngest served 2 years in our Reserves, and my daughter has the highest respect and admiration for our soldiers (her handsome father saw to that… :em93: ). And I do not think anyone here on the Rott would consider me a leftist, socialist or hippie type even if I am an atheist!?! I was born in 1953 and while the youth of my generation was busy lighting up the weed, I was learning to fly jet fighters in the service of Canada and damn proud of it. When everybody was walking around witht their hair down on their shoulders, I proudly wore the regulation haircut of my Air Force. I didn’t give a shit about the hippies then, and I certainly don’t know…

Now, being atheist and all, people can still count on me to do my utmost to protect and preserve those around me, starting with my family, my colleagues, my community, my society and culture. And yes, if it means having to put one between a goblin’s eyes, no hesitation whatesoever. (I was part of our Armed Forces Shooting Team for a while, used the 9mm pistol, the submachine gun and the rifle to great effect).

And those malls are better start showing some real concerns for their patrons. Turning them into easy targets isn’t only criminal, it’s obscene! Insurance companies? They can be sued as well for being part in that criminal negligence.

In some circles that’s known as “Pascal’s wager.”

To me that really depends on the nature of your religion–at least as it impacts your own life. If it on balance makes your life better, it makes sense. If, on the other hand, you are so terrified of going to hell that it renders you a psychological wreck (or for that matter makes you feel compelled to strap a bomb on yourself and blow up a busload of israeli children), you’ve ruined the one and only life you’re ever going to have and in my view you’ve lost the “wager.”

I would simply like to reiterate the praise of Jeanne Assam’s courage.

When people talk about ‘strong women’ as role models for girls, Jeanne is the real McCoy (kind of puts Shrillary’s ‘courageous’ leadership during the NH campaign office incident into perspective) showing young people in general what standing up and being counted means.

    She has my greatest respect.

The following Denver Post article sums things up nicely:

Larry Bourbonnais, a combat-tested Vietnam veteran, said it was the bravest thing he’s ever seen.

Bourbonnais, who was among those shot by a gunman Sunday at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, watched as a security guard, later identified as Jeanne Assam, calmly returned fire and killed the shooter.

“She just started walking toward the gunman, firing the whole way,” said Bourbonnais, who was shot in the arm. “She was just yelling ‘Surrender!’ walking and shooting the whole time.” …

Near an entryway in the church, Bourbonnais came upon the gunman and an armed male church security guard, who was there with his gun drawn but not firing, he said.

Bourbonnais said he pleaded with the armed guard to give him his weapon. “Give me your handgun. I’ve been in combat, and I’m going to take this guy out,” Bourbonnais recalled telling the guard.

“He kept yelling, ‘Get behind me! Get behind me!’ He wouldn’t hand me his weapon, but he wouldn’t do anything.” …

… Assam, 42, turned a corner with a drawn handgun, walked toward the gunman and yelled “Surrender!” Bourbonnais said.

The gunman pointed a handgun at Assam and fired three shots, Bourbonnais said. She returned fire and just kept walking toward the gunman, pressing off round after round.

After the gunman went down, Bourbonnais asked Assam, a volunteer security guard with the church, how she remained so calm and focused.

Bourbonnais said she replied: “I was asking the Holy Spirit to guide me the entire time.”

Impossible to top a tribute like that.

Ms. Assam is reportedly a former Minneapolis police officer who’s looking for a new direction in her professional life. After this, a lot of public law enforcement/private security concerns will be knocking on her door. Couldn’t happen to a better person. :em69:

I know that I am a liberal talking about guns so whatever I say is automatically going to be read as a call for gun control no matter what I say or how I say it.

    Not necessarily, DJ.

You can either ignore the “Gun-Free Zone” prohibitions and take a chance of violating the ‘rules’ of the property or establishment, or you can just refuse to go there.

I think that this is indeed the proper solution, grounded in a voluntary, common sense and laissez-faire approach to the issue. For once, you and Kim du Toit and I lie in complete agreement.
