LC & IB Vulcanrider came across an article demonstrating the continued, clueless, hopeless, and IQ lowering ignorance of what passes as journalism these days. Being the fine upstanding Rottie and nasty bastard he is, he couldn’t resist a most righteous clue-batting of the first order.

More Journalistic Stupidity On Display posted over at the Cigar Intelligence Agency.

The topic, Motorcycles and why ‘Wendy’ just doesn’t see why people actually enjoying riding them.

What follows is a stunning display of the epitome of clue-bereft journalism today and to think it gets paid for scrawling those screeds.

From the post, one might expect to find a diatribe against motorcycles, but that’s not the case. Here’s the link to the article:

    NWF Daily News.

Mostly what she’s saying is she doesn’t want to pay for riders who do something stupid and injure their heads whilest riding a bike.

I agree. And I bet most of you do as well.

In our society, we have a variety of things like insurance and various government handouts that cost everybody who works for a living money, and gives it to a variety of people who’ve done stupid things. I’m generally against shelling out my hard earned money for that, and I suspect the same opinion to be held by the rest of The Empire.

But she goes even further and claims that riders should wear helmets because they might be creamed by other morons. And those other morons should be spared the expense of paying the full price for their stupidity - that riders should “share the burden” of the idiot drivers who cream bikers.

I don’t agree with that. Morons should bear the cost of their stupidity, whether they are bikers who ride helmetless and drive straight into a truck or bozos who drive over a biker (helmetless or not). But the rest of us should not, whether it’s having to buy helmets or pay higher insurance.

I can’t quite understand why folks are so smitten with motorcycles. When we pass one on a long vacation, I always think how hot it must be, or how cold, or how wet. I wouldn’t enjoy the feel of the wind on my face or the bugs hitting my visor at 70 mph.

I don’t believe this woman has ever taken a leisurely bike ride on a nice summer day, on a curvy and rolling back-highway where the car traffic is thin.

I’ll say this, when I see the cages crammed with junk for the fourth of July holiday, I can’t help but feel sad for them. I manage to get most everything I need for the weekend in two saddlebags; if I need to transport half of my household inventory every time I go up north for a few days, what is the point?

2005 Yama FJR-1300, my woman and no schedule to keep. What could be better?

Do motorists drive and talk on cell phones? Yes. I am guilty of that as is most of the driving public.

Ah Ha…..so as long as “most of the driving public” are talking on their freaking cell phones, it’s perfectly reasonable for her to do so….even tho her yakking on the damn phone and not paying attention to ANYONE on the road makes her more dangerous than a helmetless motorcycle rider….and….just as likely to suffer major injuries if she runs a red light or crosses lanes because she can’t do two things at one time?

She’s pissing her panties about motorcycles….but freely admits to doing something that is just as hazardous and deadly because she is driving something a hell of alot bigger than a motorcycle. That’s typical liberal arrogance for you.

Well, this poor sod could ride a motorcycle without a helmet, since a helmet’s main function is to prevent brain injury…

She can talk on her cell while driving, probably does other stupid things as well, but hey, she a journalist! She can do anything, even proving to the world that her cranium cavity is totally devoid of anything except hot air.

Being that clueless, I doubt she’ll be able to avoid an accident while talking on her phone. Gives me the impression that she can EITHER chew gum or talk, but never both.

I have to admit to almost entirely given up riding on public roads. It may sound counter-intuitive, but race tracks are a lot safer. The incredible level of stupidity going on around me on public roads is, quite frankly, frightening. This worthless bimbo’s comments are proof positive. It’s been proven that cell phones make one the equivalent of a four martini drinker - or an octogenarian. And - I’m not making this up - I’ve SEEN women putting on mascara whilst driving in bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic. Scary.

I’m frequently shamed by the current crop of young sport bike riders who’s hooliganism gives all riders, especially sport bike riders, a bad name. Such blatant disregard for their responsibilities towards other motorists is repugnant.

I know I’m probably in the minority in this forum, but I just can’t conceive of riding without a helmet. I read the comment that any crash at over 50 means you’re dead anyway. Having fallen off three times at speeds in excess of 145 - and walked away each time - I’m here to tell you that’s just wrong. Sure, the helmet was ruined in each case, but it died to save its master. I will never complain about spending over $200 for a helmet. I consider my head to be worth it.

i have been looking for some “real” stats on motocycle accidents on the d.o.t. sites and had little sucess. but i did find some numbers, 2005 6.2 million registered motorcycles link and in 2005 4778 deaths (8.2 %) in about 58,000 accidents link (less than 1% of riders). it looks like about 0.008% of all riders die each year. injuries number about 47,000 per year or about 0.76% of all riders. this link may explain why its hard to find. i lost a link but about 66% of fatalities are not wearing helmets. nowhere could i find an up to date stat on accident rates for helmetless riders but some sites showing older data showed lower accident rates where helmets were optional. from personal experience i know that i can see and hear more of whats happening around me. all of my accidents on a motorcycle happened when i was wearing a helmet. once it saved my life when a rock thrown by an approaching truck’s tire penetrated the ’shatterproof’ lens of the helmet and halfway through the lens of my safety glasses. i guesstimate the combined speed of the rock and my face at over 150mph, it weighed about 3oz.. it took both to save me. btw here is something funny from Canada.

Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle! My astrological sign is a FACTOR affecting my driving!?!? Here’s proof that some of these “professors” have way too much time on their hands and will do anything to keep getting their grants. Insurance companies will have to readjust their rates following this brilliant finding…

Oh, you’re a Pisces! Your rate are now $165.00 a month vice $40.00. It we would have known that before you took your policy with us, we would have refused to insure you… Good day, and by the way, you don’t want to KNOW how much your premium will be if you ever get an accident…

Sweet Swinging Mama, it’s a real farce isn’t it!?!
