Someone posted that question on another site if I’m not mistaken. The answer is your employer can’t, but you can.

And you should. Fred! is the only choice among all the candidates. You know he is because the Enemy Press buries most stories about him. They want a fake R candidate so as to push the evil one on us. Too bad she doesn’t understand she can’t win. Well, a fair election anyway….

Have had the campaign link on the side of my blog since Fred formally announced his candidacy. To be honest, did take a look at Huckabee, but upon closer examination of his record while Governor (along with some of the goings on regarding his family, while in office) leaves a lot to be desired. I wish Duncan Hunter was in a much stronger position as he IS a viable alternative to Fred, and if nothing else, he would (failing his getting the presidential nod from his party) make an excellent choice for/as Fred’s running mate.

So let’s get it together out there, and push for Thompson in 08!!!! The alternatives range from bad to Armageddon!

Everytime I hear Fred! talk, I am reminded of this classic quote. Sorry, can’t help it. It just seems that is the way he runs his entire campaign. He hasn’t caught fire because people don’t see that he is “hungry enough” to want to win.

He might say some of the right things for you, but he just doesn’t seem to have his heart into winning it, and the voters seem to sense it.

Fred also doesn’t stand a chance because he hasn’t been “annoited” by the corporate press. They have already picked their two candidates and unless there is a serious mutiny by the masses, the two candidates will be Gulliani and Clinton, because they are the ones who get all of the press.

Take a look at the “also-rans” of both parties. How often do you hear that Chris Dodd is running? Bill Richardson? Duncan Hunter?

People know Kucinich is running only because the press has deliberately pushed him out of the public lights as much as they could. He has gotten more press describing how CNN and other news organizations have barred him from debates than he has talking about his positions.

Besides, the decent guys can never compete for this kind of office — not in today’s political reality. If Reagan were running today, he wouldn’t have a chance either, and I doubt even Bill Clinton could win.

But anyways, I thought I would create a sidebar widget for you. It is up in the left column.

He hasn’t caught fire because people don’t see that he is “hungry enough” to want to win.

Oddly enough his apparent laid back approach to the nomination reads to me like “If you want me, I’ll be president, if you don’t, fine, your loss.” is his #1 quality.

Because of this Fred doesn’t come off as a power hungry nut job. Looking at his record (he pretty much gave up a Senate seat by not running again, IIRC) reaffirms that. I like that in a politician. Washington could have remained president for G-d knows how long, but he just walked away from power after 2 terms as did every other president until we got to (*spit*) FDR. Hell, Lincoln was pretty much a tyrant (within constitutional bounds, if you consider seccession a rebellion or insurection) during the Civil War but once the cannons fell silent he gave up all sorts of powers. That’s an excellent quality to have in a leader.

I think Fred fits that mold.

Oddly enough his apparent laid back approach to the nomination reads to me like “If you want me, I’ll be president, if you don’t, fine, your loss.” is his #1 quality.

Unfortunately, that kind of candidacy doesn’t translate into a win in today’s political reality.

Think about it for a moment: Outside these hyper-political websites and discussion forums, how many people do you think have even thought about Fred Thompson for president?

Most people are sheep with 40-hour work weeks. They catch the headlines in the paper or maybe the top-of-the-hour newscasts on the radio or their MSN homepage and that is the extent of their political knowledge.

Most people don’t pay attention to what happens in Washington. Most couldn’t tell you who the Secretary of State or any of the other Secretaries are. They probably couldn’t tell you who is on the Supreme Court. I would venture to say that at least half of the people in this country couldn’t tell you who their US Representative is — even if they voted for them.

Well, $68k isn’t too shabby, but like I said — Fred might say the right things and represents the right positions for you, but he lacks the drive and inspiration.

Ron Paul can raise millions from kooks and nuts but we can only push 68,000? Wow, thats embarrasing.

You have to understand the reason Paul is able to raise millions. It is one thing only: his opposition to the war. He gets a lot of support from both sides just for that one reason alone. This should give you an idea just how unpopular this little war on terror really is with the American people, if even Liberals are willing to give money to a person with whom they are philosophically opposed to on virtually every other position except the war.

    LC SkyeChild G.L.O.R. @ 17

OT: Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated in a suicide bombing. Isn’t Pakistan part of the “religion of peace”?

I am surprised she survived as long as she did.

Pakistan is supposed to be our “good buddy” in the GWOT, yet I think they are far more dangerous than both Iran and Iraq combined. It is no secret that OBL is “hiding” in that country, that the Pakistan government is has made money selling nuclear technology to North Korea, Libya and Iran by sending Abdul Qadeer Khan.

Jbuist and DJ are both right.

I too much prefer a candidate who isn’t obviously getting a hard-on for the office, as a matter of fact I’d prefer one who had to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into the Oval Office. I also very much like Fred exactly because he’s not an obvious flim-flamming poll-driven con job who won’t go to the loo without checking with his focus groups first.

In short: I like him because he’s a man of few but measured and well-considered words, a serious candidate with serious and quite detailed actual policy proposals as opposed to pretty talking points.

Unfortunately, Deej is absolutely right in saying that this isn’t what a lot of voters are looking for. They want entertainment. Bread and circuses and juicy, easily memorized slogans. Most of them aren’t really interested in truth, analysis and solutions, they just want somebody who looks pretty and tells them what they want to hear. That’s the way democracy works, and unfortunately the alternatives are too horrid to even contemplate.

It doesn’t mean that I’m going to let up in my support of Fred!, however. Not one inch.

For once, I have a candidate I can vote FOR instead of a moron to vote AGAINST. As a man of principle, that feels good. Very good, and if his ship ends up sinking in the primaries, well then I’ll be on the deck with the band, playing.

Better that than to be one of the opportunists swallowing camels and biting the very same tongues that they use to bathe the other candidates with.

P.S.: Thanks for the widget, Deej! ‘Tis Teh Awesomeness™!

If he DOES win the nomination and runs against the Hildebeast or Osama Obama Yo Momma, he will lose, big time. Too many people I’ve spoken to have catagorized him as a “tired old man”. I love what he stands for, but I’m afraid he’s toast……unless one of the other choices screws up badly. However, up against a much more charasmatic candidate, he’ll be in trouble. I just checked Fred’s site and the campaign hit their $260k-ish goal. Good. I’m glad they got the money.

I’m a Ron Paul guy. I’ll get that out of the way right up front. However, if Paul is going to lose to anybody in the primaries I want that to be Fred Thompson. I say that because I don’t’ want to come off as a Fred! nut in the following.

Fred is a full blown, knowledgeable conservative, but he does not have the appeal of a Reagan,

You’d be hard pressed to find a candidate that looks more like Reagan than Thompson. Hell, when it comes to their acting careers more people have seen Fred than Reagan. Reagan was a B-movie actor. Thompson is on a nationally syndicated show. That helps. It’s unfortunate that it helps, but it does help.

the next conservative candidate will HAVE to appeal to crossover voters to win.

I refuse to accept this. I think Fred could win in a national election based on his charisma and his conservative record. If ‘crossover’ is the only way a Republican can win then we’ll be stuck with Rudy or Romney and their pro-choice, anti-gun bullshit or Paul with his anti-war stance as the only viable candidates.

Maybe in your corner of the world he would win, but overall, he “ain’t” setting the world on fire.

That’s the beauty of the Thompson campaign at this point: He doesn’t have to set anybody on fire. Rudy and Romney are running around trying to convince Republicans that they’re actualliy Republicans. Paul is doing the same and being forced to play the “I’m not crazy” card. Thompson just pipes up every now and then with a message that just says, “Hi, I’m actually a conservative.”

If Republican voters have any sense left in them then Thompson will receive favorable results in the primaries. If Fred gets the nod I think we’ll see the gloves come off and a proper general election campaign will ensue.

The previous poster has quoted what I had to say in my earlier post in a way which seems to depict me as a Fred Head. Couldn’t be further from the truth. In my 60 years on this earth, this has GOT to be THE worse line-up I’ve ever seen. No one really appeals to me. Fred is preaching to the choir, but the choir is a tiny fraction of the number that’s needed to elect a republican president. We are NOT the same society we were in 1980 or, for that fact, during the early 90’s. WE ARE EXTREMELY POLARIZED. Many people keep saying that “this is only the primary”, so the numbers don’t matter. Well, ladies and gentlemen, they DO matter. If Her Thighness is nominated, the Republicans need someone who can take votes away from her. Thompson is not that person. In fact, I really don’t see anyone on the republican team with that ability. As I said in an earlier post, the voters WILL vote for the person with the most charisma and personality. Issues? With the MTV “short attention span” mentality prevalent today, issues are in the far reaches of most voters minds. With the huge anti-republican sentiment I’ve encounter everyday, we will probably see a huge defeat next November, unless the Dhimmicrats screw up in a big way. Am I a pessimest? You bet. I keep thinking of a collegue who stuck his head in my office one day and hissed: “you republicans have nobody!” He may be right.

    Jerry,

As I said in an earlier post, the voters WILL vote for the person with the most charisma and personality.

If this is true, then her royal canckleness won’t win. She has as much charisma as both of my dead dogs combined, and she’s so cold that were she campaigning here in Nebraska atm, our 9 degrees would be a veritable heat wave.

If the dems really want charisma and personality, they will go with Obama, and I believe he’s easily beatable. On the other hand, if they want Bill back in the WH (which a couple of people told me is the only reason they’ll vote for Hillary), then she’ll get the nod.
