More “depressing” news from the “unwinnable quagmire” in Iraq.

BAGHDAD, Iraq - The leader of al-Qaida in Iraq was wounded and an aide was killed in a clash Thursday with Iraqi forces north of Baghdad, the Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The clash occurred near Balad, a major U.S. base about 50 miles north of the capital, Brig. Gen Abdul-Karim Khalaf said.

Khalaf said al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri was wounded and his aide, identified as Abu Abdullah al-Majemaai, was killed. Sources tell NBC News that al-Masri is in custody.

Since the little pig was captured by Iraqi forces, there’s reason to hope that he might actually be interrogated without interruption from al-Qaeda’s Democrat allies in Washington DC.

After that, he’ll hopefully decide to “resist arrest”, preferably over a period of several days.

***UPDATE:*** LC Mike M notes that NBC has decided that they no longer have sources telling them that he’s in custody. Did they put up a correction? Nah. That’s not how the MSM rolls. They just hit the “delete” button and look confused if anybody asks.

So is he or isn’t he? Well, it’d be interesting to know how they knew he was wounded otherwise. Not in itself evidence of anything, he could’ve left behind a trail of blood or something, but when you add it to the mysterious “sources say, oh wait, no they don’t” angle… Oh, and there are some, er, advantages to not admitting in public that you have somebody in custody, particularly if you need to be asking him questions later and he’s the kind who might need a bit of convincing, if you know what we mean. You also won’t need to worry about him having to “resist arrest” or “attempt to escape” when he’s done talking. You never had him to begin with, you see… Mheh.

Pure idle speculation, of course, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if a lot of terrorists start turning up dead in the next few weeks and al-Masri is never heard of again.

***UPDATED UPDATE:*** Looks like al-Masri is, indeed, still at large according to reliable sources (i.e. not the MSM). Damn. Only a matter of time though.

Got a room for him at Club Gitmo! Bring on the dogs.
But not to soon, let the Iraqis have some fun with him first.
Great job boys! Keep the pressure on.

Sources tell NBC News that al-Masri is in custody.

Looks like this little tidbit has been excised from the original account.

If he is in fact in custody and the Haji’s don’t know fer sure of he is or not, then theres a beautoful two to three day window here where any intelligence he gives up will be actionable. While his lieutenants try and figure out what to do we and the IA will be banging down their doors.

And this is due in no small part to the latest “escalation”. The Haji’s are running from Bagdhad and out in the open where we can actually get them.

    Un-winnable quagmire alright. Git some!

Well done to the fantastic new IA troops, and of course to the coalition forces who trained them.
One of my (Aussie) army mates is on one of the IA training teams. Every time I hear of an IA success story I give a small cheer for the great job him and all the other coalition trainers are doing.

Keep the pressure on Coalition!! The heroic jihadis are cutting and running!! I guess that means they’re democrats eh?

So I have one question to ask the military commanders…if your funding for this crusade gets cut by the demorats…where would you like me to send my check?

Looks like you dropped a comma there #7. Shouldn’t that be “Rachel Corrie’s flat, mate”? Three big cheers to all the Aussies, by the way.

oh man my sides are hurting with this one. not like it would matter if he got caught anyway, hundreds would jump to replace his position.

face it mishy mashy, we’re losing this thing, the liberals were completely right about this war from the very beginning (and also of Bush’s pure incompetence), but it hurts you so much to admit it, that you cling to some false reality that this thing is worthwile. I’m all for cautious optimism, but this is pure dumbassed insanity. Give it a rest. The truth is a bitter pill, but the taste will pass.

..and each will be written out of the script in his own fashion…until the libertards quit supporting them with the everflowing propaganda.

I’m glad you find the escape of a subhuman baby killer so amusing. I’m not terribly surprised, though.

That’s like somebody saying “you’re going to get a headache if you walk into that room” and then, when their advice is ignored, picking up a 2×4 and hitting the unsuspecting guy over the back of the head.

Except that I wasn’t all that unsuspecting, since I’d seen it all before. I knew from day one that the liberals would do anything to make their prophecy come true, up to and including providing aid and comfort to our enemies, working night and day to produce a future hell on Earth for Iraqi civilians.

It’s not like you swine haven’t done it before, and some of us are keeping count.

That’s a butcher’s bill that you’ll be made to pay one of these days, mark my words.

And continue to laugh while you can, because there’s not much fun and laughter in you seditious swines’ future.

Well we have a ranting, witless libtard in our midst again: “The truth is a bitter pill, but the taste will pass“…

Well you silly, shit for brains bitch if anyone needed to understand why fighting and killing terrorist towel heads you parasitic liberals should if you could get your collective heads around facts and history

You think these towel heads are going to let you play your idiot games if they are around?
