Touching upon the case of former celebrity Jim Zumbo, who obviously, in spite of his vast knowledge of hunting and the implements used for that purpose, never quite understood the 2nd Amendment, the Imperial Educational Advisor is kind enough to spell the meaning of it out to him and morons like him.

Consider it your required reading for today.

Required reading indeed. It just goes to show the sad, deplorable state of civics education in this country that this has to be continually restated.

Call me totally clueless but what did Zumbo say since he didn’t repeat it on his own site?

I’ve seen the statement from Outdoor Life and obviously 2nd Amendment is part of the problem for Zumbo…

The best I could glean was from Bill Quick over at Daily Pundit had about both Romney and Zumbo which apparently doesn’t link to this site: http://dailypundit.com/?p=24451

    From Comments:

Didn’t Jim Zumbo just get his ass kicked for making similar statements? Compare and contrast:

Romney said: So I’m a hunter and believe in Second Amendment rights, but I also believe that assault weapons are not needed in the public population.

Zumbo said: “I’ve always been comfortable with the statement that hunters don’t use assault rifles.

Two idiots that don’t even pretend to understand the Constitution of the Nation they live in, and one of them wants to be your President. I just wish that Romney had gotten the same blogswarm that Zumbo received.

Don’t give up. The week is still young.

Is this the sort of idiocy that Zumbo would say to people who generally if not emphatically believe in the 2nd Amendment?!?!

If so, the old boy is soft in the head…

And this goes back to the “who’ll be left when they come for yours” question. A well armed society is the closest guarantor it won’t be needed. Fear the government that fears your guns, etc, is too true unfortunately. The 2A is NOT about duck hunting.

Billy Beck (links aren’t working for some reason) cites the following biting parody of Zumbo over at Ted Nugent’s blog:

“As I write this I am making ¼ inch groups with my AR-10 hybrid Randal Roch, president and C.E.O. of ar15barrels.com built the upper and I am using a 168 grain Hornaday A-Max loaded to 2750fps in .308 Winchester.

I must be living in a vacuum. The guys at the range tell me that there are guys who are still using bolt operated rifles to hunt animals, especially deer and elk. Only once in my life have I ever seen anyone shoot an animal

I call them “sniper rifles” which may upset some people. Excuse me, maybe I am a realest but I see no place for these weapons among our sporting fraternity. I will go so far as to call them ‘assassination rifles’ they tell me that some companies are producing sniper riles that are “tack drivers”

Sorry, folks, in my humble opinion, these things have no place in Shooting. We don’t need to be lumped into the group of people like lee Harvey Oswald and Charles Whitman, which is an obvious concern. I’ve always been comfortable with the statement ‘people do not need to hunt for food, that is why we have grocery stores’ We’ve always been proud of our ’sporting firearms.’

This really has me concerned. As shooters, we don’t need the image of walking around the woods killing poor defenseless animals then fallowing a blood trail till they bleed out. To most of the public, a ‘Sniper rifle’ is a terrifying thing. Let’s divorce ourselves from them. I say game departments should ban them from the praries and woods.”

… another quote about hanging separately or hanging together comes to mind.

While I’ve always found Zumbo to be a bit pompous, he did issue what sounded like a real honest to God heartfelt apology at Ted Nugent’s site, and promised to use some of the now-ample time he has on his hands to educate others on semis (and I don’t mean 18-wheelers).
He says he’s gotten an education on the issue, not to mention having his entire career go up in smoke. Maybe we should back off just a little and see if he does what he says he will.
