His Imperial Majesty, who is getting increasingly annoyed with hearing about how “the only GOP choices in ‘08″ are three liberals with an “R” next to their names, finds this highly encouraging:

SPARTANBURG, S.C. With nearly all precincts reporting, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was leading ten other candidates tonight in a Republican presidential straw poll in Spartanburg County.
The vote is considered to be an early sign of who die-hard Republicans in this conservative area would like to see win their party’s presidential nomination next year.

With 81 of 92 precincts reporting, Giuliani had garnered 158 votes. California Representative Duncan Hunter was running in a close second place, with 152 votes. County G-O-P officials said Arizona Senator John McCain had 116 votes.

Forget about anti-gun, pro-abortion, pro-McCain/Feingold Guiliani leading the pack, what’s interesting is that he’s neck-and-neck with Duncan Hunter, an actual *GASP!* conservative in a poll in South Caro-friggin’-lina with a whole year to go until the primaries.

We guess we’ll have to quit pretending that Duncan doesn’t stand a chance because “nobody knows who he is outside of California.”

Sorry, Rudy, His Majesty will never forget or cease to admire the great job you did of cleaning up NYC, not to mention the outstanding job you did in keeping that city hanging tough and together right after 9/11, but so far you’ve failed to convince us that you’re any different, politically, from the Hildebeest. Is there any plank in the liberal platform that you actually disagree with?

Not to mention that any GOP candidate daft and tone-deaf enough to side with the Brady Bunch on gun control issues leaves us wondering if he’s quite right in the head. Brave, yes, but the fine line between idiocy and bravery and all that… Not even the Democrats are dumb enough to touch that issue with somebody else’s you-know-what.

Most of all, however, elections are, at least to His Imperial Majesty, about choice. If there’s no practical difference between the two candidates, then there’s really no point in showing up at the polls, now is there?

Go Duncan!

You made my entire day, Milady.

I have to admit that I was a bit worried about the name recognition factor, so to see a place as far away from California as SC vote that much in favor of Duncan with, I repeat, a whole year to go until the primaries…

    Wow!

This is encouraging news, Emperor. It’s difficult to find any information in the MSN on how much popular support Hunter and Tancredo are actually getting. I’d take either one over Giuliani. I had hopes for Rudy in that he seemed to be the only Republican in the running who might have a chance against the Clintonistas and who would have a chance in NY/NJ/CT. But after his recent comments on how we need to concern ourselves with the Uroweenies’ opinions of us along with his refusal to even mention the illegal problem, I can’t see him as anything other than a lib. He’s showing his true colors. :thumbdown_tb:

You’ve got it the wrong way around.

I done said it before, I’ll say it again, conservatism works every time it’s tried. OK, so I stole it from Rush, but that’s besides the point.

The primaries are when WE decide where our party will go, not the MSM or pollsters, or anyone else. Vote for a true conservative in the primaries and you will have a true conservative you can vote for n the general election. And forgot the hog wash about being able to beat Hildeabeast or Osama Hussein Barkalot or whoever. Thats what the campaign is for. Hunter, or Tancredo, or Gingrich, their conservative ideals will trounce a lib in the campaign. Remember the certainty of Reagan’s defeat in ‘84? To hear the MSM tell it we didn’t even need an election, how could Mondale lose? Heh!

    My Liege,

Im afraid that in 2008 anyway, that Hunter cannot Top the GOP ticket. I say this because a friend of mine who is very involved with the Demo party, and Hildebeasts campaign in particular, laughs every time I mention Hunters name. Upon further prodding by me, he revealed that Hildabeasts famous 900 FBI files include one on Hunter which smear him badly. I pressed for details, and at first he would not reply. But as I goaded him further, insinuating that there was no dirt at all, he relented to prove his point. Apparently Hunter has at least two skeletons in his closet.(according to MZ Clinton) One , he was involved in the House Bad-Check scandal to a MUCH GREATER degree than reported so far. Secondly and most damningly, he purportedly has has a conviction for a SEXUAL OFFENSE that was expunged from his record. IF Hillabeast really has this , Duncan is TOAST.The MSM would crucify him,and the donks would hold back on this until right before the election to insure his defeat and prohibit a replacement pick just like they did on the gay fla congresscritter. I STRESS this is what I was told by a partisan, and cannot verify it independently. just my two cents.

Rudy has my utmost respect. Always. He took on New York and whipped it into shape. He pulled that city and the Nation up out of the rubble of 9/11. He deserves every last bit of admiration this Nation can give.

That being said, I simply cannot vote for him. His stance on Gay Marriage is as far left as it can get. Put it in the hands of the States and let the PEOPLE vote on it dammit!!! The Fed. Government and the Courts have no damn business getting their grubby mitts into this issue.

Abortion. Again, an issue that should be in the hands of the States and their citizens as to whether or not they want to foot the bill for killing innocent “inconvenient” babies. If a State you live in does not want to allow Gay’s to marry, or pay for your abortion…MOVE! Don’t go screaming for the Feds to force a State to bend to your will!

Illegal Immigration, Gun Rights…..He’s just a better looking version of Hillary on those issues.
To be honest I’m not very familiar with Duncan Hunter, or than just name recognition, but I’ll certainly be taking a look at him.

Romney….can’t get very excited about him for any reason.
As for me…I’m holding out for Newt. Just the vision of Libtard heads imploding at the announcement that he was running is enough to give me warm fuzzies. :jittery_tb:

IF Hillabeast really has this , Duncan is TOAST.

Two sort-of, kind-of, maybe scandals against the vast, breathtaking, towering, scenic piles of dirt on the Clintons?

I don’t think Hillary is capable of making someone “toast” in a political campaign. She just has too much baggage to win in a skeleton fight. And even if she didn’t, to exploit two fairly light scandals- an overturned conviction and a scandal that no one will understand or care about- she would have to be an expert electoral politician.

I submit she is not. The last few months have been the first time in her life she’s faced direct political pressure and she has been, ah, less than impressive. She may not even be the nominee- and if she is not, then certainly Hunter could overcome whichever Stereotypical Liberal Candidate that have lost in every election since 1976.

Remember, Hillary is unique in that her negative rating is always 48%, and that is absolutely adamant, and her positive is 49%, and that is changeable. In every poll taken in the last 6 years, the first number- 48%- never, ever changes, while her positive ranges from 52% to 45%. But the 48 Negative is absolutely ironclad. 48% of the country will never vote for her, even if Newt Gingrich or Sam Brownback got the nomination.

I should also add: those two “scandals” are nothing compared to the kind of stuff Giuliani is lugging around.

And, again, it’s primary season, not election season. This is our only chance to seperate the wheat from the chaff. As of this time next year, we will be stuck with whoever we picked until 2016, in all likelihood.

Do we want it to be another George W. Bush? Do we want it to be someone who makes George W. Bush look like Ronald Reagan? Do we want to just pick the guy for whom Newsweek and The New York Times write the most fawning articles? The one whose snappy photograph has a caption proclaiming him “the frontrunner” and “the GOP’s best chance for 2008.”

Remember, these “reputable” news sources (even those that are actually reputable, without the sneer quotes) swear up and down that Democrats won the 2006 elections because “Republicans pandered too much to their conservative base.”

Being a San Diegan conservative, I volunteered for Hunter the minute his website went up. He’s the real deal - running on national security and border issues (as in enforcing the law it, not amnesty - err, “comprehensive reform”). He walks the talk - Vietnam vet whose son has served 2 terms with the Marines in Iraq - and not as a Stars and Stripes reporter with bodyguards ala the Gorebot.

I’d love to see a general election campaign where we’re the one’s saying “It’s the War, Stupid” while Clinton/Obama sing the entitlements lullaby and simply ignore foreign policy issues.
