WASHINGTON - Suspected members of extremist groups have signed up as school bus drivers in the United States, counterterror officials said Friday, in a cautionary bulletin to police. An FBI spokesman said, “Parents and children have nothing to fear.”

Heavens no. Why would THAT worry us one little bit? They’re the Religion of Peace, after all. The President said so himself!

Listen, dear Feds, I know what you’re trying to do here. The last thing we need is a widespread panic with parents all over the nation keeping their kids home from school — although if they’re public schools, the consequences to their learning level most likely wouldn’t be measurable — but would it be too much to ask of your spokes-suits to maybe try to be calming in a slightly less luminously retarded fashion?

Terrorists have been obtaining licenses to drive school buses, but that’s not worth worrying about?

It sort of suggests that you’re not taking the whole thing seriously, doesn’t it? Which you’d better be, or there’ll be unpleasant consequences in your suddenly dramatically curtailed futures.

Of course, there’s always the very real possibility that the journaljizzmer who authored this bit of Associated (with terrorists) Press pap didn’t quote you quite accurately, and by “not quite accurately” I mean “she pulled it straight out of her voluminous arse.”

What I’m trying to say is that, good intentions notwithstanding, when your immediate reaction to every single incident, threat or new development is “nothing to see here, move along”, sometimes even before you’ve bothered to investigate it, as we’ve seen all too many times in the past, the calming effect of your words is bound to be less than nothing eventually. It’s like the boy who repeatedly refused to cry “wolf.”

Asked about the alert notice, the FBI’s Rich Kolko said, “There are no threats, no plots and no history leading us to believe there is any reason for concern,” although law enforcement agencies around the country were asked to watch out for kids’ safety.

See? That’s more like it. And if that was you being misquoted in the lede, Mr Kolko, I apologize.

Foreigners under recent investigation include “some with ties to extremist groups” who have been able to “purchase buses and acquire licenses,” the bulletin says.

But Homeland Security and the FBI “have no information indicating these individuals are involved in a terrorist plot against the homeland,” it says. The memo also notes: “Most attempts by foreign nationals in the United States to acquire school bus licenses to drive them are legitimate.”

Of course not. I mean why jump to conclusions and automatically assume that “foreigners with ties to extremist groups” would have any illegitimate and nefarious reasons for getting school buses and licenses to drive them? Most likely they’re just dying to cast off the shackles of Jihad and go sing “the wheels of the bus…” with the kids.

And then some knucklehead from Homeland Insecurity shows up and contradicts everything:

Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said the government has no credible information to suggest terrorists are “involved in buying school buses or seeking licenses to drive them.” He said there was no indication of any immediate threat to the country.

No credible information to suggest terrorists are involved in buying school buses or seeking licenses to drive them?

Wasn’t that what the FBI just said that you did have evidence of?

Could you pencil-pushing potato-heads at least care enough to synchronize your talking points every once in a while?

Well, somebody’s obviously and logically not telling the truth here.

And you morons want us to trust you with our children’s safety?

They’re buying their own buses? Just how many tons of nitromethane soaked fertilizer can a jihadi pack into a school bus before rolling up to the front of your local elementary school at final bell?

What fools. Don’t they realize that it only takes one event to make a history of something? There was no history of flying jetliners into buildings on 10 September 2001, but that went right to hell, didn’t it? And while all the signs were there, no one thought it would happen. Why? No one had ever done it before! (except the Kamikaze pilots of Imperial Japan, but that would require reading a damned history book…)

It would be nice, for once, if the FBI spat out that line and then added:

…because agents are already watching the principals and arrests will be made shortly.

They can’t do the smart thing, and just deport or jail these idiots before they drive off with a load of kids.

All they can do is expose the threat, and hope that the idiots that run Laidlaw ( a bunch of Canadians ) do the right thing and not hire them.

Kristopher, I just read this item and the comments, and my thinking was along the same lines as yours: If they’re foreigners and suspected members of terrorist groups, what the hell are they doing here in the first place and why doesn’t the government just kick them the hell back to where they came from (or to jail or Gitmo). You say the FBI’s hands are tied by political correctness, but when did political correctness acquire the force of law, much less law that overrides our interest in security for our children? If they’re not acting out of concern about what the media will say, I hope they’ve got their stories prepared for when one of those school buses blows up, or a bunch of kids are murdered.

Does anybody else weary of this leftist mantra? You can bet when, and not if, something does come down…those fucking souless bastards and bitches will blame us for it….again. Not that I care. The idea of parents riding shotgun on some buses does sound appealing. Just this morning, on this beaitiful day provided by global warming, the temp in the mide-seventies and climbing; I was enjoying mowing my lawn, thinking about these sleazbags, noting how I support and participate in my second amendment rights. Yes, if ever a civil war erupts, I think I would sight them in first, the terrorists later. For while I despise terrorists, I hate traitors. One does have priorities, you know. The cops would be far too busy, those that gave a shit in the first place. So as these tolerant, non-violent gentle souls trash your house or car you can provide the necessary therapy, a lead lobotomy.

I drove a school bus at one time (loved driving, couldn’t stand the Jr. High kids from Palos Verdes, a wealthy area that I had to cart around).

You pick up your bus in the morning, do your runs, then take it back to the yard, You pick the bus up in the afternoon and repeat. I never had to sign the bus in or out and being my bus was in a remote yard, I only went to the office once a week to turn in my hours.

It would be easy to do your morning run, stop somewhere and load the bus with whatever, then drive to the afternoon pick-up while the whole school is hanging in front for their rides, get 30 to 60 kids on your bus then…..

The only check run on me prior to driving was to make sure my DMV was clean and no outstanding wants and warrants.

You pick up your bus in the morning, do your runs, then take it back to the yard, You pick the bus up in the afternoon and repeat.

Not sure how it all is now…but I can remember when I was in school… we were a rural area in Alabama…the bus drivers took their buses home with them. They run the route in the mornings, leave the bus at school during the day and catch a ride home or to a part time day job, then come back in the afternoons and drive the route home. The buses were parked at their homes.
Maybe they’ve changed that up..but if there are still areas that still allow that might have to rethink it. It would be too easy for someone to sabotage a bus without actually being on it or even near it without the driver even knowing…even if they did an inspection before leaving to run their routes.

got to remember, I live in the big city. Lots are 40 x 120 and the neighbors don’t like a bus taking up 3 parking spaces on the street.

We had semi-secured :rolleyes_wp: yards, big parking lots to store the bus. If I didn’t bring the bus in between my morning and afternoon run, nobody would have noticed. He could be on a last minute field trip, we’ll find out tomorrow type situation. That would give someone about 5 hours to do what they want.

I haven’t driven in over 25 years, perhaps now they have or will have GPS on the buses, but most likely that would only be useful after something happens.
