Which isn’t the first time, by the way. What would be a genuine first would be for their continued, deliberate, repeated, blatant acts of war to have any measurable consequences. Which might happen once the rest of the world borrows a pair of testicles.

Link thanks to the Jawa Report:

Fifteen British Navy personnel have been captured at gunpoint by Iranian forces, the Ministry of Defence says.

The men were seized at 1030 local time when they boarded a boat in the Gulf, off the coast of Iraq, which they suspected was smuggling cars.

The Royal Navy said the men, who were on a routine patrol in Iraqi waters, were understood to be unharmed.

The Foreign Office has demanded the immediate and safe return of the men, who are based on HMS Cornwall.

Or what? You’re going to demand their return again?

The Ministry of Defence said: “The group boarding party had completed a successful inspection of a merchant ship when they and their two boats were surrounded and escorted by Iranian vessels into Iranian territorial waters.

So why didn’t the HMS Cornwall open fire? Are we to understand that Her Majesty’s Royal Navy, when faced with an open and unprovoked act of aggression, are under orders to do nothing while Her Majesty’s subjects are kidnapped at gunpoint by foreign powers? Are we to understand that the Royal Navy, when subjected to an open act of war, will not as much as fire a warning shot?

Thank G-d we weren’t born in Britain and thus weren’t ever in danger of finding ourself in Her Majesty’s service.

Of course, considering that our very own Dept. of Appeasement is busy issuing visas to the leader of the regime responsible for this act of war, not to mention numerous even worse acts of war against our own soldiers in Iraq, it can very easily be argued that it would be too much to ask for our allies to respond in an appropriate manner.

Great comment from the UK Daily Mail website:

Throughout the 1930s the British public and politicians ignored all the threats by Nazi Germany. Only Winston Churchill understood the nature of beast which would never be satisfied until the world submitted.

We are today looking at the same endless appeasements in the face of countless acts of war. Only difference that instead of Churchill we have ignorant leaders who have learnt nothing about human psychology or world history. We have millions of citizens who have taken the side of the enemy. And worst of all, there is no Winston Churchill to lead us out this mess.

The Iranians are not quite ready for war and the soldiers will be released to a grateful British nation only too happy to see the inevitable conflict put off for a little longer.

Oh Sir Winston, who is there among those of your great country that can take your place?

We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.

One ought never to turn one’s back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!

Didn’t you know that the speech has been updated?

We shall go on until it is declared an unwinnable quagmire, we shall fight in Turtle Bay, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, which are rising because the Earth has a Fever, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, unless we choke on all the man made Carbon Dioxide, we shall defend our Island, unless it costs too much or the “International Community” disapproves, we shall fight on the eroding beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, as long as no one fights back, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, as long as no one gets killed or even injured; we shall never surrender, because we’ll call it a phased redeployment, and even if, which is most likely considering that this war is and always had been unwinnable, due to the fact that that liberal democracies place restrictions on the actions of their militaries, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, unarmed and guarded by the United Nations, would issue sternly worded resolutions, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, succombs to global warming.

Just heard Michael Savage talking about no one having a pair in our Western governments today…he used the line “Old golfers never die, they just lose their balls”……so appropriate.

Why Britain, or the U.S. for that matter, didn’t immediately take out one of their oil ports or torpedo an iranian oil tanker or SOMETHING…ANYTHING is beyond me. We even allowed that little hitler wannabe to cancel his trip to this country by HIS terms. We should have welcomed him with open appeasing arms, then lock his sorry ass away and never set him free… Oh the stuff that dreams are made of.

Seal off the middle east, no one goes in and no one comes out. Get our troops and citizens out of there, then burn it down…..just burn it down.

There is no such thing as an act of war anymore, I guess. WTH does a dictatorship have to do to get overthrown? Kill hundreds of thousands of people? Nope, Sudan is still untouched. Promote terrorism for an entire life? Nope, arafat died with his peace prize intact, and 1/2 a billion in the bank for wifey. Provide weapons to a terrorist organization blatantly before, during and after a conflict? Nope, Iran and Syria remain unpunished.
There is no such thing as an act of war anymore. With the neutered offerings for president in ‘08, especially at this crucial time in history that we have to put up or shut up..I wonder if it’s too late for us? Once Hilary gets into office, and that’s my sad prediction, we’d better hope she’s an angry menopausal bitch when provoked.
I would like to see the U.S. pull out all military involvement throughout the world, simply to prove a point. Leftists spew rhetoric about globocop not being needed, that we should exist in neutrality only…well, let’s give it to them. Let’s remove our troops from the DMZ in Korea for starters. Let’s stop funding the anti-drug movement in South America. Let’s stop funding the hamas gov’t. Next time Bosnia/Serbia happens, let’s let the EU deal with it. Let’s buy our oil from Alberta instead of Saudi Arabia/Venezuela.
If the U.S. took a neutral stance and dealt with its own borders like the leftist conspiracy nuts suggest it do, I would give the entire world a month before world war would come about. Since we’d be protecting our own borders and are still second only to Russia for the number of nukes, we can laugh in peace while the world gets what it deserves.

The Brits couldn’t fire on an Iranian gunboat.

Sidearms vs. a bow mounted machine gun is suicide.

I’ve served with UK forces and they are excellent.
They are hampered by weak leadership just as US forces are.

The Revolutionary guard should be getting an SAS boot up their collective asses, instead, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Iran’s uranium impasse with Russia magically disappear.

Western governments are gutless and weak. Islamists are not unaware of that fact.

If the West does not respond forcefully to this overt act of war, do any of you seriously believe we have the will to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon?

It’s my belief that we will do nothing and Iran will produce a bomb.

Scary as it is to say it, I never really believed we did. And maybe that’s for the best, because after they use theirs, maybe -then- we’ll pull our fingers out of our arses and fix this damn mess.

Small comfort to the tens of thousands who will die, but it seems that someone will have to do something when the bodies pile up high enough.

Of course knowing this Dubyament, it will probably be to surrender and ask for combined UN and French rule.

I’m going to blame this on the ROE that our troops are forced to follow. You know damn well that the Cornwall was aware of the approaching Iranian boats from the time they left the harbor, but are not allowed to make any aggressive move unless the irani’s action are clearly aggressive. By then it’s to late.

The President has already promised what the response is going to be to an Iranian escalation. There is no doubt that Iran is already involved in this war. The President, in his last major speech said that an Iranian escalation would be met with retaliation beginning with air strikes on thier nuclear facilities.

Think what you want about President Bush, he doesn’t make threats, he makes promises. The question now is not “will” the Iranian nuclear facilities be bombed, but “when”.
