Blair responded that the service personnel will be released, that Iran is facing increasing condemnation from world bodies and that Britain has done nothing wrong.
“I really don’t know why the Iranian regime does this [show captives on TV],” because it just arouses disgust, he told reporters Friday.
“If they continue in this way, they will face increasing isolation,” Blair said, referring to a UN Security Council resolution passed Thursday and an announcement from the European Union expected Friday.

The statement is not as strong as Britain was hoping for. Britain had wanted the UN statement to say the council “deplored” Iran’s detention of the sailors.

You know, I’m going to relate this thread to another one that the Emperor wrote regarding American Idol. While I agree, it’s an absolute pathetic waste of time, money, and use of the electromagnetic spectrum through which it is transmitted, when I see something like the absolute cowardice and lack of resolve on the part of the Western “powers” (snort, snort, chortle, chortle), I can hardly blame people for wanting such a mindless diversion.
Western civilization is going down the shitter in large part because of the incredible pussitude of its “leaders” (again snort snort, chortle chortle) and it’s getting to the point where it’s becoming unbearable to even pay attention. Who can blame people for wanting to watch a patron of the bar in Star Wars sing some sappy love song as opposed to watching our “leaders” kiss the kneecaps of some psycho little pissant like Amdinawhateverthefuck?
Tehran should have been turned into a sheet of radioactive glass a long time ago, or at least carpet bombed sufficiently enough to allow the message “don’t fuck with us” to thoroughly sink in. Instead, we’re getting “disgusted” that they are being mean to us.
Screw it, I think I’ll start watching ‘American Idol’ myself now, it would be one helluva lot better than watching our pathetic leaders respond to this and every other crisis with Iran by kneeling before Xerxes.

What with this rerun of history happening here…the Iranians take western hostages, parade them around for TV, and the weak kneed leader of the offended country looks around for an international sporting event to boycott. It happens close to an election year, and what do the public do? They vote in someone with spine enough to do the job right.

Double *sigh*, because we’re not even talking about patrolling Falujah. We’re talking about the fucking Navy. There aren’t a lot of “misunderstandings” on the high seas to “downplay.” There isn’t a language barrier. There isn’t a question of civilian casualties. It’s just you and a lot of fucking water. Once in a blue moon, it’s you and one other ship. And then you have exactly three things to be concerned with: your mission, your ship, and your crew.
Mission: If the Iranians capture the inspection crew, your mission has decidedly failed.
Ship: If you attack the Iranians, it could put your ship at risk. However, given that the ship in question is the HMS Cornwall, a Type 22 Frigate and probably capable of engaging half the Iranian naval budget, the ship really isn’t in jeopardy.
Crew: If you allow 15 crewmembers to be paraded off through Tehran, you’ve decidedly failed them on both a personal and professional level.
You’ll note that pleasing unavowed enemies of the throne is not one of the responsibilities of naval officers. Or perhaps it is. In which case, the Brits deserve what they’re getting, all the more so if they won’t right the wrong while they have the chance and allow the hostages to be dispersed throughout the country where their treatment, survival, and rescue will become big question marks.

The thing is, Mindy, nothing else is going to work because we have managed to convince, through decades of spinelessness, the likes of Iran that all of our diplomatic notes of concern and threats of “sanctions” matter not one bit.
Diplomacy is a great way to avoid the horrors of war, but it only works if the other side believes that you’re going to whack his pee-pee if he doesn’t listen. Otherwise, diplomacy is nothing but empty blather. He knows that nothing will happen if he doesn’t make concessions, so all of his yakking and pretense is just a guaranteed way of buying more time for what he’s going to do anyway.
And no, we most certainly do NOT need to launch a full-scale invasion of Iran. A simple demonstration of power and willingness to use it will do the trick nicely, for the very simple reason that Ahmadinnerjacket KNOWS that we can set his shitty little country back to the stone age without ever using a single soldier, and there’s nothing, NOTHING his pathetic clown army can do to stop it. He just KNOWS at the moment that we’re not ever going to do it, and that’s why he keeps acting the way he does.
The moment that equation changes, the moment an oil refinery disappears under a barrage of Tomahawks after a 24 hour ultimatum to hand back the British sailors is ignored by him, he’ll start listening.
