Not, not this one, but the whimpering, puling poodle that used to be the Empire upon which the sun never set.

As we’re sure you know, Mahmoud Ahmadinnerjacket just announced that he is going to “graciously” release the 15 British hostages that he grabbed in an act of war and piracy on the high seas, and he’s playing it for all it’s worth:

“On the occasion of the birthday of the great prophet (Muhammad) … and for the occasion of the passing of Christ, I say the Islamic Republic government and the Iranian people — with all powers and legal right to put the soldiers on trial — forgave those 15,” he said, referring to the Muslim prophet’s birthday on March 30 and the Easter season.

The New York Slimes and various and sundry other Islamofascist scrotum-licking “news” outlets praising Ahmadingdong as a “great statesman” and a “peacemaker” in 5…4…3…

The results of the standoff are in, and Mahmoud won.

  1. He has proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Britain doesn’t even rise to the status of “paper tiger.” Their personnel were abducted in an open act of piracy, an act of war, and Tony the Toothless Poodle didn’t, not once, find it in himself to do anything about it. Nothing. Not even a thinly veiled threat. Britain is not a “paper tiger”, it’s a “candy floss chihuahua.” From here on out, he and his terrorist allies know that they can get away with anything.
  2. He has proven, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the U.N. is every bit as useless as anybody with a brain has known for ages. Heck, they couldn’t even get themselves worked up enough about an unprovoked act of war to “deplore” it, much less actually do something.
  3. He now gets to parade around the world stage, presenting himself as a magnanimous leader forgiving his enemies for their “trespasses”, not to mention the chutzpah he’s showing in calling himself “generous” for handing back victims of a hostage situation that he himself instigated.
  4. His terrorist allies will be wildly emboldened by their idol sticking his finger squarely in the eye of the West and getting away with it. Not only getting away with it, but scoring an enormous propaganda victory as well. As a result we will see more, not less of the same in the future. Why wouldn’t we? Our enemies now know that they can abduct our citizens at will with absolutely no consequences at all.
  5. As a side bonus, this crisis of Ahmadinnerjacket’s own making caused oil prices to rise significantly, making him and his terrorist regime richer in the process.

We are, of course, happy for the 15 who will soon be heading home, but at what price?

We’ll see soon enough, and sooner than we’d like too.

The West had war declared on them, and the West surrendered without firing a shot.

Even the fwench aren’t that cowardly, spineless, worthless and utterly without merit.

Shame on us, shame on all of us and G-d help us.

We’re going to need His help, seeing as how we obviously don’t have anything resembling leaders to look to here on Earth.

Did anybody say that you were? I suggest that you may have trouble with reading comprehension.

Oh, and what’s with the “we Brits?”

If you’re talking about yourself and your mates, then I have no reason to disbelieve you. I already know that there are any number of you over there as pissed off by Tony’s lack of balls as I am. If so, remember the saying: “if the shoe doesn’t fit, don’t wear it.”

If, on the other hand, you’re referring to Britain as a whole, then I’m sorry to have to inform you that the facts seem to indicate otherwise. Unless, of course, the reason that Tony the Wanker has been elected so many times is that the bloody frogs keep sneaking through the Chunnel to vote for him.

You can be as hacked off as you want at me for merely observing facts, but I’d much rather that you turn that healthy energy into electing a government that is NOT made up of ball-less tossers.

I miss the Britain of old, and I’d love to have it back.

    Oh, and fuck you too.

Actually, I said something sbout this yesterday. The fact that the simian iranian president has decided to be “magnanimous” and give back the servicepeople that his nation kidnapped, thus making my point about the story’s descent in position less important does no change the fact that these people we taken without a fight and allowed to remain in captivity while the “leaders” talked.

or go paint it on the nearest mosque mate, you got enough of them over there right?, they’re springing up faster than Mc Donalds so I hear…

Being of English/Irish descent I mourn for the lack of resolve that is shown by the PM and the Parliament…not to mention the lack of will by the captain of the HMS Cornwall. Those are HIS men (and women) out there in those boats getting nabbed and he did nothing, except to ask permission to fire. He should have just fired and fired and fired until the threat was erased. I doubt that we’ll ever see any raids close to the heroic spirit of the Cabanatuan Prison Raid or Entebbe.

After all, we can’t risk pissing off the “Arab Street” to rescue our own citizens from the benevolent bedouin swine now can we?

Lord Lovat, Douglas Bader, Winston Churchill, Arthur Wellesley, Horatio Nelson, Sir John Churchill, Richard Coeur d’Leon (yes I know he was French), Boudicae….

I certainly hope so, because we need a Britain like the one we had during the Falklands War. That was a Britain that truly kicked ass and took names, and I want it back, just as I want Congress back.

I have to disagree with you when you say that elections don’t mean shit, however. Elections decide who runs the country. Who runs the country decides how that country acts on the world stage and that’s all that matters in a war.

Much as it pains me to say it, and you can’t possibly have any idea how much it pains me, Pelosi and Reid spreading their defeatist, socialist, Islamofascist-coddling stench all over Congress is indicative of just how far we, over here, have fallen as a nation.

I wouldn’t have the least of a problem with anybody from abroad pointing that out, because it would be true.

Don’t shoot the messenger, throw out the wankers giving your country a bad name instead, because they deserve it.

And on that subject, both you and I have a lot in common. The U.S. needs a housecleaning as well, and we need it in the WORST possible way. I don’t like to admit that, but it’s true nonetheless.

Britain is not dead, it is riddled with socialist scum much the way The USA is. The media and the schools have been over run and the brainwashing has started.

Britain currently lack leadership, political correctness has assaulted the world and torn at its gonads! Sooner or later and I pray for the sooner we will find someone to come from the shadows and LEAD us back in the right direction.

I agree will sixfoot, elections really do not mean shit anymore, the best candidates rarely get the chance to be elected. GWB is a spineless gimp who only got elected because his contest was against John Kerry who was slightly less frightning than Heir Hilary. As long as the establishment sticks us with the two party system and those two parties pander to the middle those of us i=on the right have no representation.

I am one of the people who was fortunate enough to be recommended to the site by sixfoot, so yes as a friend of his for the last generation I certainly have a bias in my post, lets not say the Empire is dead because the Empire will one day strike back!

    JonB,

As Billy Graham so memorably quipped: “If God doesn’t judge America He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”

We’re not done yet tho. One thing the U.S. has going for it (perhaps the only thing) is the promise of Gen. 12:3, viz her support of Israel. Of course, let the limp-wristed socialistas of the Democrat party get some real power and that may change right quick.

All it would take to destroy Israel is for the U.S. to lose its nerve and two nukes.

This whole episode can not be good for Her Majesty’s Royal Navy. If the US Navy let their sailors be taken when they could have stopped it, you would see a gigantic increase in enlisted getting out and officers resigning after they finished their obligation. I believe the British sailors will do the same. They have just seen that their superiors will let them get captured while doing their duty, and not lift a finger to stop it or recover them. Morale in the Royal Navy must be at an all-time low.
It’s not good for us, either. You can bet that US sailors are pissed about this, and also wondering if they would be treated the same way in a similar situation. The good captains will be telling their crew that they will disobey orders and get their own back. Ships with political captains will have sailors making their own pacts with their shipmates.

    Two additional points to consider:

    6) According to news reports I heard today (ABC Radio and Fox News) the United States yesterday released several Iranians who were captured in Iraq, including a “diplomat” who was aiding the Iraqi insurgency. Speculation (denied by the US government) was that the Iranians were traded for the captured Brits.

If the speculation is true, then the Bush Administration just demonstrated to Iran that it, too, doesn’t have the stomach for a confrontation with Iran.* And if it isn’t…well, given the timing, who would believe it wasn’t actually a trade?

(*Or it might be that the President doesn’t think he can muster enough support for a war with Iran from the Democrat-controlled Congress, should and when it becomes necessary. Which amounts to the same thing, doesn’t it?)

    7) You can also stick a fork in NATO; it’s done. When Britain went to its fellow European NATO allies for help in crafting economic sanctions against Iran (who does a lot of business with Western Europe, especially France and Germany), the rest of Western Europe told the Brits to get bent. Diplomatically, of course. Didn’t want to upset the economic gravy train, after all…

So NATO has been effectively been replaced by the totally spineless EUrinal, with cowardly, backstabbing France and Germany in the lead. Which simply reinforces the point that in the fight against Islamic fascism, it’s going to be America, Britain and Australia carrying the load…and this sorry incident would seem to indicate that both Bush and Blair are going wobbly as their terms in office wind down.

Here’s the question I’ve got: What sort of rules of engagement was the Cornwall and its crew operating under? It’s beyond belief that the Cornwall’s crew wasn’t allowed to shoot at the Iranians who went after their people - either preemptively or even after the fact - and at least one account of the abduction I’ve read claimed that the Cornwall was ordered to stand down.

It sounds to me as if the Cornwall’s crewers, including her Marines, were acting more as policemen rather than sailors and soldiers, and were ordered to take as nonthreatening a posture as they could. And we’ve all heard of episodes like that in US military experience, like the Marine guards at our embassy and barracks complex in Beirut back in 1983 who were ordered to “stand guard” with empty rifles, so as not to upset or inflame the locals. And then one day some Hezbollah asshole drove through the gate with a truck bomb…

So it may not be entirely fair to blame the skipper of HMS Cornwall for what happened, depending on what ROEs and other nitpicky political constraints he was operating under. But regardless, he’ll probably get the blame anyway…

From the looks of things, the War is going to have to come here, and we the citizens (the ones that won’t be bending over and applying the KY that is) are the ones that will have to stand up and apply applicable force. You are all wrong about this thing. I know because I heard on ABC News that Iran was returning the sailors that they “captured.” For awhile there, I thought that they’d been abducted. It seemed as if the British government was just jaw-jawing. Now I can see how much better it works if one’s government just govels a bit.
And, it gives the government practice so that it can do better the next time.
I’ve always had a great deal of respect for the British, but they will be under a different brand of leader before I waste valuable appreciation time again.

I find myself dishearted by this whole episode. Being of Irish, Scot and English extraction, having lived in Australia for six months, remembering how we felt about England so long ago. Respected and admired. I still hold a deep affection for the British people and their history. I pray they wake up, as I pray America wakes up, for our countries will need each other to destroy this global cancer known as radical Islam. And perhaps the book of Revelation is closer than we think. Now that is a scary thought. Britain could kick the shit out of Iran any time she chose to….as could America. What boggles the mind is why we haven’t. Our soldiers and navies fighting side by side are invincible…..let us not fight amongst ourselves, for that is what our enemies want. We can do that later……..

There is one clear and simple reason why Britain was humiliated in this exchange. We were unable to back up our strong-arm diplomacy with the threat of force, and Ahmadinejad knew this. The reason we were unable to back up our strong-arm diplomacy with the threat of force is that much of our military presence in the Gulf is tied up in the pointless, evil clusterfuck that is Iraq and cannot be freed from there.

Sad to admit, but in a straight fight on Iranian turf, with the resources we have available, the Iranians would beat us like a bunch of redheaded stepchildren and send us on our way. They have military superiority on their own soil. We would end up losing God knows how many lives, killing God knows how many civilians, and making the situation in Iraq God knows how much worse, just to retrieve fifteen corpses.

I’ve heard mutterings in bars that Blair should have sent in the SAS on a black ops mission to spirit away the marines out from under Ahmadinejad’s nose. This, sadly, ignores the fact that our SAS boys, while being just about as hard as you can get, aren’t supermen, cannot fly under their own power, and cannot perform miracles.

Bottom line, they had us over a barrel from day one and we got fucked. At no point during all the carping on this site does Misha provide a sane alternative plan Blair could have followed.

This is obviously excellent news, and probably the best outcome that could be expected. However, without wishing to condone the Iranian’s behaviour, this does seem to indicate that steps ought to be taken to encourage the Iranian’s to become more tightly integrated into the broader world community and reduce their level of anger against the rest of the world, and the west in particular. While this may be an impossible dream, surely it would do no harm to encourage a closer level of communication between our various societies?

Rhetoric aside, the most important objective was achieved — the British sailors and marines were released.

Sure. And the most important thing, when your family member is kidnapped, is getting them back any way possible - nevermind that it increases the odds heavily of the kidnappings occurring again, and again, to some OTHER person(s). We not only flinched during this game of chicken with Dinnerjacket, we ran shrieking in terror off the road to wet ourselves, trembling. The fact that we weren’t run over THIS time was entirely in Dinnerjacket’s oh, so benevolent, condescending hands at the wheel. We were punked.

Are you more upset because you wanted to kick ass and take names while cooler minds prevailed?

You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding.

The objective WAS achieved, and both sides can claim the high ground.

This idea is partially right. The objective WAS INDEED achieved - by Iran.

I’ve always appreciated (if not agreed with) your point of view in the past, ITW, because it’s good to have a person of reason acting as the devil’s advocate, to test one’s logic against. I’ve always thought it must take some grit to be the voice of the few (here) taking on the many. And remaining largely civil with it.

Lately, however, I’m having reasonable doubt.

Hey Muzzy, Its apparant that you must have been in diapers in the early 80’s. Let me give you a little history lesson that your commie school teachers were afraid to tell you, There was this little thing called the “Cold War” going on!

Oh, blow it out your puckered, pontificating, paranoid ass you sanctimonious prick. It’s abundantly clear your rabid partisanship blinds you to the double standard to which you hold Pelosi. Pelosi’s visit is prima facie presumed treasonous while Rumsfeld’s Kodak moment with Saddam is desperately excused.

You say Rumsfeld visited Saddam to serve American ends. I say Pelosi visited Assad to serve American ends, namely by opening an avenue through which Bush could pursue the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group. Bush may not like it, but Bush is a cretin whose handling of the War on Terror has been abysmal in virtually every way.

I love it when you history revisionist try to inject your stupity into todays history.

And I love it when you hapless apologists ignore basic facts when slamming others as traitors, because it always comes back to bite you in the ass.

The reason Iran took those Brits is because they knew Briton was and is weak!

Yes, mainly because of the Iraq clusterfuck.

Political correctness has destroyed Great Briton. And with the spineless comments by Blair the rest of the moslim world can smell blood in the waters!

Did somebody drop you on your head once too many times, Muzzy, or are you deliberately pretending to be ignorant?

Rumsfeld visited Iraq as an OFFICIAL ENVOY OF THE U.S. ADMINISTRATION, which is how governments are supposed to work. House Haji Lugosi visited on her own initiative, AGAINST THE ADVICE AND WISHES OF THE SITTING ADMINISTRATION, and that is, whether you like it or not, a direct violation of the Logan Act.

Yes, one of the two AREN’T like the other.

It really doesn’t matter a wet fart what you think about the Administration’s handling of the war, I’m not too crazy about it myself, that does NOT give Haji Lugosi the authority to break the law, nor does it make her an official envoy of the sitting Administration.

    muzzy,

    a couple of points here:
1…No one but NO ONE practices more rabid partisanship than do pelosi and her ilk. She went on this trip, not as a representative of the United States…but on her own…without the blessing of the State Dept. or any other agent of the U.S. government. For her to go over there and talk policy, all on her own, is technically a violation of separation of powers. She serves in the “legislative” branch, not the executive branch…under which the department that meets and decides foreign policy..i.e. the State Dept falls. I say censure not only pelosi and her fellow democrat travelers but also the republican traitors that went over there hanging onto her skirt.

2…that famous photo of Rumsfeld smoozing with Saddam was taken while he was on a State Dept sanctioned trip to Iraq…therein lies the difference.

3…Political Correctness is no bogeyman muzzy, it has turned into an ideaology of censorship and ostracism. Witness hate crime laws, and the inability of mainstream media to call islamonazi terrorists what they really are…for fear of “offending” them. Our side doen’t use it to hide a lack of solutions. YOUR side uses it to muzzle dissent to their ideaology.

ya’ know muzzy, during this whole “hostage crisis” of yours…I just kept wondering “What would Churchill do?”

It’s a wonderful and noble history that your PC ministers are throwing away. You should read up on it before it’s banned and burned.

I have to ask, are you fucking mental?. As much as I love my Old Blighty, there’s no escaping the fact that our society is suffering a pervasive and relentless assault upon what’s regarded as common sense these days. For crying out loud, they sent four coppers to question an eleven year old boy over a potential hate crime the other day just because he called his mate “Gay” in an e-mail .You know….. As kids do. As bad enough as that is, add another two to the fucking idiot quota in this piece seeing as they neglected to mention the tosspot parents of the e-mail recipient that reported it to them in the first place.

You know as fucking well as I do that crap like this is happening every day and all day long in this country and yes, there is a very specific term for what it is: Political Correctness. There’s absolutely fuck all boogeyman about it, it’s easily defined.

the Executive Branch as just as much power as the Legislative Branch, not more

Wrong! The Executive Branch and the Legislative branch are not equal partners in the manner you portray. They each have powers that are specifically allotted to one or the other. For example, the President cannot write legislation (Neither can the Supreme Court for that matter) but he can veto it. The legislature cannot set foreign policy, but they get to vote on the appointment of ambassadors.

They are NOT equal. They have powers that can cancel each other out, but specific roles are attributed to specific branches.

Lugosi had no place whatsoever contradicting the President’s foreign policy during a time of war, or at all really.

Oh mate that’s made my day that. Sorry feller; When I read that I just had visions of you going ’round the twist trying to find out what the hell “No Fuckin’ Cha” translated as from Brit slang. As I experienced earlier, it means either “Broken Keyboard” or “We’ve run out of tea”. The first is no biggie. The second equates to a national disaster in this house.

Cha is also Chinese for tea and it’s use in Britain is from our past in the tea trade. Some things linger a long time in a culture. We used to throw tea parties, but that went a little out of vogue after that one you lot threw in Boston :smile1_ee:
