Listen, His Majesty is not exactly militant on the abortion issue. Yes, we do know where we stand on the question of “is it murder or not?” and no, we’re not going to change our opinion on that but, on the other hand, we’re also not sufficiently dogmatic about it to cast anybody who might have pro-choice beliefs out in the cold, never to be mentioned in polite company again. We don’t like compromise on the issue, we’re against compromise on the issue but, unlike the question of “is socialism evil or not?”, we’re quite willing to debate it calmly.

All of that to say that His Majesty has never considered it a litmus issue for a prospective candidate whether he’s pro-choice or not. It won’t score any bonus points with us if he is, that’s for sure, but we’re not going to throw a candidate out the window based on that issue alone.

So that wasn’t as much of a problem for Rudy as some might think, at least as far as we’re concerned. It’s not like the President gets to decide the issue anyway.

But when he comes out in public and claims that it should be funded by the Federal government, that is to say with my money, then it’s time to say “stick a fork in him, he’s done.”

Of course, he knows this and is now desperately trying to pull his foot back out of his mouth, claiming that he never said any such thing, except that’s exactly what he said.

Besides, even if you do believe that penumbras, emanations and a quart of fine Scotch say that killing the unborn is a Constitutional right (you’d have quite a few senile old fuckheads on the Supreme Court backing you up on that, not that it means that you’re right), Rudy’s blather that Constitutional rights must be funded by the public is still just that: Blather.

The bastards at the Crimson Blog beat us to it, but we’re going to say it here as well anyway since we had the idea at the same time. Nevertheless, by publishing first, they still beat us fair and square:

If Constitutional rights, according to Rudy, have to be funded by the taxpayers, then we guess we’re going to have to get a few dozen gun safes around the palace in case of a Guiliani Presidency. You see, we have an indisputable Constitutional right to keep and bear arms so, using Rudy’s immense and deep grasp of Constitutional Law, that means that the Fed had better be prepared for a hefty reimbursement request after our next gun-shopping spree.

Finally we get to own a Barrett .50 cal, a brand new M1A, an MG42, more handguns than you can shake a stick at and every single new battle rifle manufactured here or anywhere else in the world, and Rudy’s going to pay for it all!

Give it up, Rudy. You just aborted your campaign.

Make room for… FRED!

If that’s the angle Misha….why not petition for the Federal Government to provide you with those safes? Hell the Second Amendment with that way of thinking would mean that anyone that wants to own a gun should be provided one under the auspice in that it is a Constitutional Right.
Rudy has stepped in a huge pile of Moonbat Guano with this. Of course I decided some time ago that he’s not getting my vote.

Yes I know they are technically not “arms”, But if we could get President Guiliani pay for them. With our money of course, I’d start up a dealership I only live about 15 miles from where they are built. Wouldn’t ever have to worry about finding a parking spot at the mall.

Before you have a knee-jerk conniption fit, let’s read the UPDATED CNN story, which was released later:

“And the Giuliani campaign noted later in the day that the former mayor would not seek to make any changes to current law, which restricts federal funding to cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother.”

In other words, he would keep the status quo. I guess that’s good enough for George W. Bush. You can all resume drinking the Kool Aid…..

    Dear Mr. Mayor,

We Americans owe you a debt of gratitude for your flawless handling of the terrorist attacks that befell NYC under your watch. You showed poise, professionalism and commitment to the citizens of the Big Apple, the nation and the world. We love you sir.

But while you did a wonderful job during a horrid crisis, your stance on the issues that matter most to many of us conservatives are not in line. Gay marriage, abortion and the second amendment.

Sir, please consider writing your memiors and collecting huge fees for speaking engagements. You’ve more than earned it. But as far as running for the Republican nomination….please consider leaving that to a true conservative.

    Best wishes and good health,
    An American Conservative

You know, I’m not that impressed with him being such an angel after 9/11. He did well, he didn’t show any improper emotions. In fact, he nailed the role perfectly. I’m impressed with his finally delegating a long-overdue cleanup of New York, having been a visitor before and after its cleanup (crime/graffitti, not 9/11).
I don’t think his mayoral rule is enough, though. You’re supposed to be calm and professional when speaking to the public…you’re supposed to improve the city you live in. Rudy’e been paid handsomely for his role as mayor.

A.C.1, don’t believe that for a minute. Rudy is currently popular because:

    1) He is BELIEVED to be the only one that can beat Hitlary (Karl ain’t retiring yet, and most of America hasn’t gotten to know her temper. Eventually, she will do one of her meltdown rants somewhere public, and the ride is over.)

    2) Rudy is at least acceptable to the Liberal Media, and thereby gets a lot of “He’s the only one who can beat Hillary, yadayada” press. (Of course, this would come to an ass grinding halt when it comes time for the General Election, but even if the Noo Yawk Slimes loses Hillary, they still have a librul in office.)

Rudy is a nice guy. Did a great job cleaning up New York and helped bring not just the city, but the Nation back together after 9/11. But way too liberal to win a primary as a Republican. Who votes in Primaries, anyway? The 10 percent of the Country that are really motivated. Nobody will be motivated to vote for “He might beat Hillary,” no matter what the polls say. The Nominee will be Mitt, Newt or Fred.

    I’m betting on Fred.

Oh, and WHY THE FUCK SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT FUND EVERYTHING ELSE? Draw the damn line SOMEWHERE, fer pity’s sake!

willt65, quoted the Communist News Network (aka New Pravda News Network) as saying:

“And the Giuliani campaign noted later in the day that the former mayor would not seek to make any changes to current law, which restricts federal funding to cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother.”

All very nice and well…. The part that you seem to have missed is what even the “updated” version of the story DOESN’T say, and this is very important, even to one as “nuanced” as you apparently seem to be…

“What did it leave out?”, you’re asking yourself right about now.

Here’s the part that is a glaring “sin of omission”, since not saying something to this effect, when asked point blank, is tantamount to endorsing the opposite: Mr. Giuliani said that he would veto any changes to expand federal funding for abortions for crack whores, dropouts & other miscreants and drains on society, including illegal aliens.”

What gripped my gonads about the shi’ite that spewed forth from Rudy’s piehole was his assertion that ANY federal money (Read: Taxpayers’ money) MUST be spent on ANY “right” that is guaranteed by the Constitution.

That’s a Supremely Stoopid™ position to take on ANYTHING.

“What”, you might be asking yourself, “do you mean?” Well, that’s a good question. You’re a smart one, you are.

Let’s take a look at another “right”, and take Rudy’s (and Libruls’ in general) view to its logical conclusion, shall we?

My “Right to Happiness” is guaranteed by the Constitution. Therefore, since I can’t afford a 165-foot yacht to make me “happy”, the government HAS to pay for it.

Also, since having the Swedish Miss Nude Volleyball Team swarming all over me would also make me “happy”, the gubmint HAS to pay to fly them all here and put me up in a 5-star hotel for the rest of my life.

Also, the 5-star hotel HAS to be on the water so that I can park my yacht at the marina and, therefore, the government HAS to pay for that, as well.

    Pretty simple, isn’t it?

I’ll be waiting for Rudy’s check to arrive in the mail within 7-10 working days after I vote for him. Thankyouverymuch.

Not stepping on my toes, that’s for sure.

We all have our “hot button” issues, the ones we will not compromise on for any reason whatsoever, and that’s all good. It’s what makes us human. It’s what proves that we’re not “neither hot nor cold.” Nobody and nothing says that we have to have the same ones.

For instance, that’s why I won’t vote for McCain no matter who he runs against. You don’t fuck with the 1st Amendment. No way, no how, end of story. The same goes for the 2nd Amendment. Mess with that, and you’re out, because without the 2nd, none of the other 9 mean jack shit, since they can then be taken away at will.

And some people aren’t quite as absolutist on those issues as I am, which is fine. We’re still on the same side, and that’s all that matters. Nobody tells me what I have to compromise on, so it follows logically that I don’t get to tell anybody else that.

    A.C.1:

You are entitled to both your opinion and your vote. I will neither try to force you to change your mind, and will defend your right to your own mind.

I just do not happen to agree. Try to understand my point of view, just for a moment. Again, you don’t have to agree.

I have exactly two issues that are my particular “lines in the sand.” Mayor Guiliani is on the wrong side of both of them. As far as I am concerned, if he turns out to be the best that a supposedly conservative party can muster, then why bother?

Not that I compare Rudy to either, but, hypothetically, if Hitler were running against Mussolini, then for whom does one vote? I’d rather watch Oprah that day.

My very first vote that I ever cast was for Ronald Reagan. In 1976. The primary against the then current President, Gerald R. Ford. Ford was, is, and shall remain, a fuckwidt. The Republican party didn’t agree, and a four year “national malaise” was the result. And the Republican Party and America were improved thereby.

And, no, neither Strom Thurmond nor Jessie Helms would have been my choice, even in their prime. Neither, I would imagine, would they be the first choice of anyone here.

I don’t think it is too much that the Conservative party nominate a CONSERVATIVE. If they can’t, then perhaps they deserve to wander in the wilderness for a bit longer and get their feces consolidated.

I thought it was a little early for these people to get out the soapbox. I figured it would get boring and old but it amuses me to watch these putzes spit up on themselves and see their spokespeople come out to clean it up.
We aren’t going to get the perfect candidate. Even Fred has his drawbacks. He’s a lawyer! (no offense BIW) He doesn’t support tort reform. Did I mention he’s a lawyer?

There needs to be a viable True Conservative Party to give the Repubs and the Dems some competition. A party that tells them that they better get their crap together or they will get run over.
Everyone keeps saying “That’s a good idea but we have to get through this election first. There’s not time to get a strong party started.” If not now..WHEN? We have a National Election every 4 years!! How much time do people think is going to have to be given to do this?? Do we stop the world so we can get things rolling? If we don’t start now it will never happen. Viable Political Parties don’t just fall off the bus ready to go. The easiest thing to do is to do nothing. THAT will make damn sure that nothing changes.

Well if the State of Maryland is willing to do this, then the Electoral College will be a thing of the past very soon. It won’t be long before other states will jump on this bandwagon faster than Bent Dick Clinton can jump on an intern.

That’s true, but without the electoral college, those of us in “flyover country” might as well stay home. Your president would be elected by California and New York.

Thus the whole reason for having an electoral college. The Founding Fathers had a reason for not setting it up so that the Presidential election was one OPOV. It provided a measure of protection from mob rule. Of course, by taking selection of Senators away from State Legislatures, we’ve pushed ourselves closer to the brink, and the only thing left to keep it all from circenses et panis is keeping the electoral college. Also, there are procedures for when there is no clear majority in the College. It’s the House of Representatives. The only thing keeping 3rd parties back is voter cowardice.

But when he comes out in public and claims that it should be funded by the Federal government, that is to say with my money, then it’s time to say “stick a fork in him, he’s done.”

I agree, that issue alone could well end any realistic chance Rudy had to win the nomination.

Publicly funded abortions are a funny issue. They would almost exclusively be funding the deaths of poor and minority babies.
Common sense would seem to dictate that Democrats would be opposed to them.
After all, they claim to be the party of the oppressed.

That is if Fred would ever get off his damn posterior and get into the race. Everyday he stays on the sidelines is one more day that money goes to Rudy McRomney. Not to mention 1 more day that people hitch their wagons to McRomney for lack of an alternative. With the new accelerated primary schedule he can’t afford to keep playing coy when he knows dang well he wants in.

That is if Fred would ever get off his damn posterior and get into the race.

Actually Fred is playing it smart. He knows that to get in this early is a sure way to get your ass kicked out early. One of the Big Three or even two are going to be out of the running by years end. My bet is McCain will be the first to drop. That will leave Rudy and Mitt to take the full force of the enemy fire. Somehow I see Rudy being the second victim.

We’ve got 18 months till the elections. He’s smart to sit it out and just let speculation keep his name in people’s minds.

As for the money, as candidates drop out, then that leaves money for him to scoop up as people and donors who have waited to see who is the last one standing start getting a better picture as to who is the most likely candidate. I know I wouldn’t donate to anyone right now…even Fred. That’s a sure way to throw your money down the tubes.

The only thing keeping 3rd parties back is voter cowardice.

That was exactly my point. The Electoral College is certainly a good thing. I didn’t mean to imply that it should be eliminated. But…it shouldn’t be used as an excuse to not try to promote a better solution than just Dem or Repub, both of which we all know are as worthless as tits on a boar hog.

That’s the number one problem with unfettered democracy. People in densely populated areas start thinking they have a right to inflict their policies nationwide, and going by simple numbers it seems fair and reasonable. But what business does California and New York really have with the affairs of Texas and Florida? Not too much. Okay, regulation of interstate commerce and maybe one or two other things, but definitely not crap like federal income taxes or minimum wages, which directly affect the lives of individuals, many of whom live far away from the dominating bloc of voters.

The first thing that needs to be done is bring as many government functions as we can down to the local level. Community involvement is important, and it doubles as a way to more effectively quarantine certain ares from spreading their policies. After that gets established, then move on enforcing Constitutional restrictions on what government may do at any level.
What the government can do, enforce as locally as possible. What the government can’t do, enforce as broadly as possible.
That’s what I consider to be Neofederalism.

The electoral college is not the reason that third party candidates do not win. Third party candidates do not win because the election campaign finance laws are written so that third party candidates do not stand a chance of ever complying with the laws so that they get any actual funding.

Also, any third party candidate that is viewed as a threat is hounded by special prosecutors coming after them for violating the campaign finance laws which were written in such a way that third party candidates cannot possibly comply with them. Gee, how convenient.

It is a very large detriment to a campaign if the third party candidate cannot get federal matching funds but the DemoPublicans can get them.

There will never be a serious third party in this country until these unfair laws are stricken from the books. Not likely to happen since the DemoPublicans control the legislature. The only way this would be possible is if the voters called a constitutional convention and amended the constitution, which they have the right to do.
