This just in, from the Great White North (OK, so it’s a week old, but we sure as Hades hadn’t heard of it before):

It’s not often that an item intended to induce relaxation causes this much stress. But when Doris Moore’s seven-year-old daughter discovered an inappropriate label on a couch she just bought, kicking back and relaxing on the piece of furniture was the farthest thing from her mind.

The little girl approached her mom after discovering a label on the dark brown couch that listed the colour as “nigger brown”.

Moore was understandably shocked.

“For me to buy couches and then the colour coming under that, nigger brown, I was floored,” she said.

Heaven help you if you should ever run into something actually, you know, shocking, then. We’re frightfully sorry to hear that you were “floored”, though. Seems like such an awful waste when you’d just bought a new couch to fall on and all.

The couch was purchased as a store called Vaniak Furniture, but the manager, Romesh Kumar, claims he knew nothing about the label, saying it’s a problem with the supplier.

Considering how labels are, traditionally, attached to goods by the suppliers of same, we’ll graciously agree to taking Mr. Kumar’s word for it in this case.

For Moore, and her family, who are from Ghana it’s difficult to fathom how such an offensive word could find its way on to a piece of furniture.

We’re not terribly familiar with Ghana (other than their eternal shame for having produced Kofi Anus, which in itself ought to suffice for a declaration of war and a few tactical nuclear strikes), but we have to admit to being a bit skeptical here. An offensive word on a piece of furniture is worse than anything that might happen in Ghana?

“With slavery and what happened to us and the words they called us, it hits home,” she said.

Mrs Moore ought to contact the Guiness Book of World Records, seeing as how she has to be the only living soul to have personally had slavery (at least in the American sense, which is, after all, where the word “nigger” comes from) “happen to her.”

Moore is filing a complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Commission and she wants the word taken off the furniture.

Got scissors? A pocket knife ought to do the trick rather nicely as well.

And she filed a complaint with the “Ontario Human Rights Commission” over a bloody label on a couch???

Heaven help us.

Sweety, I will be glad to come up there with a pair of scissors (which I’m sure you consider to be a dangerous weapon, not to mention you’re probably too lazy and dumbf*ck stupid to understand the mechanics of using them) and cut that horribly offensive color tag off your lousy dumbass sofa.

Guys, this is Canada- the human rights commission cannot grant them money for this. It will go to the seller, and speak strongly about them changing suppliers.

That will be all. The supplier will be outside their jurisdiction, the seller did nothing amiss, and the consumer may return the offending couch for a refund.

There will be no law suit, at least no successful one. Not a hyper-litigious society- if this had happened in the US, do you think she’s have run to a government agency with no power to grant settlements, or sued everyone who every used the word ‘couch’ in the past 200 years?

I know what you’re saying, but if you look at the dateline on the article I link to, it says “April 5th”, whereas the obvious spoof you link to says “April 11th.”

Furthermore, the original story is in what appears to be a bona fide news outlet, complete with video footage.

All I’m saying is that it looks like the people at “The Spoof” saw an utterly retarded story and decided to turn the stupidity up to 11 by making it even more ridiculous.

Maybe you’re right, heck probably right even. I guess it is just difficult to believe that anyone would be so idiotic as to name a color that. What was another choice? Peckerwood white?

I mean…for this to be true, a lot of people had to be in on it. That’s an awful big chance to take.

First of all, let me apologize to you all for the country I was unfortunately born in. There are SOME of us with a sense of humor here. In fact, I’ve ordered a new Honda with “Paddywagon White” bodycolor, and NiggerBrown leather seats.
As for the Ontario Human Rights Commission, they’re a joke.
I remember trying to rent a house in Toronto that was owned by a Chinese couple who didn’t even live in Canada. I have references, don’t have parties, no pets, no smoking, good job, etc…but they said they wanted a “Chinese” person to live there, through their real estate broker, who was too tired to lie to me, I guess.
Well, I told him that I was born only 10 miles away from this house, lived in this country all my life, and was going to call this “Human Rights” commission. They told me that what the people did to me is totally illegal, totally wrong, but there’s “nothing they can do”.
So, I don’t frequent businesses I know are owned by Chinese, I try to avoid Chinese products, and I heavily favor Irish-owned services/products over other ethnic groups, even if it’s at a terrible financial loss. I tried being Canadian, I ended up having to be Irish-Canadian.
Did you all know that 90% of the flags we buy here are made in China? That means on Canada Day (July 1st), everyone goes out to buy a Canadian flag that was made in China. Just to think my great uncle was one of the first men on the beach at Normandy…
Do they make your flags in-country? I find it pretty disgusting that anyone would buy a Chinese-made flag to save a buck….
