    Yep works now no probs.

Ms. DuToit is right on all counts.

The bad part of this is, that shit like the VT nutcase is being used to push for more gun-control. I’ve posted several places that that is a fallacious argument, wrong on the face of it. “An armed society is a polite society ” is just as truthful today as it was when it was coined.

If everyone at this college had been exercising their Second Amendment Rights I don’t believe this EVIL nut could have gotten very far. It seems that I’ve been carrying forever both licensed and not, I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. If this had happened in my college, and fell within my range, he’d have gotten one in the heart and one in the head stopping him forevermore.

But she isn’t trusted with a tool to defend her own life. Does this make ANY sense to you?

    No, it doesn’t.

What makes even less sense is not trusting those charged with protecting the students (you know, the teachers like my wife) to exercise a right the goverment already grants them.

In fact, a colleague of hers set a student to fetch something from his car for a lesson and the youngster in question saw a handgun secured in the car and the teacher was subsequently dismissed.

But it’s ok, cause the school is in a drug and gun free zone, so nothing bad can happen. /sarcasm

For those who think banning guns is the solution, they should also consider banning Koreans. Same logic!

Taking guns from law abiding citizens will only create more victims. Look at Russia for example. Civilians practically can not have firearms (can have gas guns, which are practically worthless and ver very few can go through the buracracy to purchase fire arms). Does that even decrease the percentage of crimes committed with guns? For those tempted to say yes I recommend a walk during the night in nearly any russian town of your choice. (make sure you have a living will).

One would logically ask the question. Where do then russian criminals get guns? Black market. To make things worse, those purchased illegally are stolen from MILITARY and as such are MORE powerful (american cop armor doesn’t stand a chance). If some of loonies are under the illusion that Black Market won’t provide guns in US (should the demand arise as a result of universal cilivial gun ban) let me ask this, how many HIGH SCHOOLS in this country don’t have drugs sold to kids? What? I didn’t hear it… did you say very few? did I hear almost none? Well last time I checked that was illegal, but nonetheless Black Market eagerly provides the demand.

If some of the students at VT had guns, that would have slowed down the nut, likely resulting in FEWER casualties. It is nonsense that the right to pack the heat allows criminals to have guns more easily. Criminals BREAK the law, they will have the guns whether you ban them or not. But if there is a ban, it would probably lead to the same problem as in Russia - military guns in the street - more dead cops.

From a BBC article on gun control, and why Switzerland(where private gun ownership is encouraged) has such a low rate of crimes involving guns:

Despite the lack of rigid gun laws, firearms are strictly connected to a sense of collective responsibility.

From an early age Swiss men and women associate weaponry with being called to defend their country.(emph. mine)

So … if we instill a sense of national pride, unity and responsibility in our children, that would help, right? Pride in our country used to be promoted in school; now criticism is encouraged. In a strange sense, schools have brought it on themselves.

My bad. Bad headline. He was shot, apparently, but not dead yet.

I have to laugh…here’s a country with gun control. Let’s see how their crime wave is doing:

rganized crime groups are behind most shootings in Japan, with two-thirds of the country’s 53 known shootings last year being gang-related, according to the National Police Agency. Police estimate there are about 84,500 gangsters across Japan.

    and

n 1960, Socialist leader Inejiro Asanuma was killed in an attack by a sword-wielding 17-year-old that riveted the nation.

    and

n 2002, a ruling party politician was fatally stabbed in a dispute over political funds. In the 1990s, a Liberal Democrat lawmaker was killed at his home by his daughter and an opposition lawmaker was stabbed to death by a mental patient.

    and

Last year, a right-wing extremist burned down the house of ruling party lawmaker Koichi Kato

Guess it’s time to ban all knives, matches, gasoline, wood, daughters, mental patients…

That article doesn’t make much sense. The headline says that the Mayor was killed, but the article itself says:

One of the bullets struck the mayor’s heart and he went into cardiac arrest, according to Nagasaki University Hospital spokesman Kenzo Kusano. He was on life support late Tuesday after undergoing an emergency operation, Kusano said.

Mayor Ito’s condition remains severe,” he added.

Tetsuya Shiroo, a senior member of Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan’s largest organized crime syndicate, was wrestled to the ground by officers after the attack and arrested for attempted murder, police said.

Is there some wishful thinking going on there?
