Ann Coulter, long may she snark, is writing about the liberals trying to ban mass murder by taking away nutty people’s 2nd Amendment Rights.

As she points out, that might not be an entirely stupid idea, which would certainly be a first for Democrat lawmakers. After all, the thought of Markotz Melissa Zunigass wielding a firearm does give us at least some pause.

She argues that, while the Democrats are busy eliminating the Constitutional Rights of nutcases, perhaps they should extend their proposal to the 1st Amendment as well?

We’re not sure about that, however. Yes, it would be refreshing to see the final weekly 15-minute broadcast of Air America disappear, along with approximately 95% of the MSM, but really, Ann… What on Earth would His Majesty and yourself have left to write about?

Anyway. The rest of y’all go read her piece. She doesn’t say “faggot” once, so we’ll be spared the usual hysterics from the “throw her under the bus” crowd this week.

This is a feel-good measure that is both wildly under-inclusive (the vast majority of nutcases receive no formal court adjudication of their nuttiness) and wildly over-inclusive (the vast majority of nuts don’t kill people.)

Too true. This has potential to become a Witch Hunt if the Libs are in charge of defining what a “Mass Murdering Mental Case” is. They’d have every Republican and Conservative in padded rooms if they were left to enforce this.

I believe I posted much that same thing last night in one of the other threads. There is more than just a mental breakdown that occurs in someone who does what Cho did. There are many people out in the world with problems much the same…but in my opinion what keeps them from going postal is the fact that they have more of a moral foundation of knowing right from wrong to prevent them from blowing away innocent people.

It’s not just mental illness that causes people to go ballistic…it’s the lack of moral character that pushes them in that direction.

Outlier. Besides, if the idiot court had done its job, it would’ve gone into his record and his NICS check would have come back “delayed.”

Not that it really matters. With all the time he spent planning it, he could’ve bought enough weapons to outfit a fire team without even going near a licensed dealer. Hey, he was a psycho. Somehow I don’t think that being turned down on a NICS check would’ve deterred him.

On the other hand, if we get anti-nut laws on the books, then somebody is going to have to define where the line is drawn, and guess who is going to draw those lines?

I wouldn’t trust government to be able to wipe my ass without choking me in my own shit in the process, so I sure as Hell ain’t going to trust them with defining what “a dangerous psycho” is. The idiots in government, any government, have the combined intellect of a limp cucumber and, and this is worse, the “best intentions” of a crack addict late for his fix.

I don’t trust them, any of them, and I never will. I grew up watching what kind of an unholy mess they can make with their “good intentions” and utter lack of qualifications. I’m not going to sit back and watch them do it again in this country.

And no, I’m not an anarchist.

I do realize that we need government in order to deal with the issues that individuals are incapable of dealing with in a productive fashion, but that’s as far as it goes.

Any involvement beyond that, ANY involvement, is meddling and should be punishable by death. In a perfect society, the kind of society that our Founders designed, the government would be pissing themselves, vomiting with fear at the merest thought of overstepping their boundaries, and with good reason too.

Taking care of armed psychos is not an issue that we need a government solution for. It’s more than adequately dealt with by law-abiding citizens armed with freely available and superior firepower, as the Constitution already guarantees them a right to be. Sucks for the psychos, but that’s their problem and I couldn’t honestly care less even if I tried really hard.

    3. Develop a thug caste.
    4. Set up an internal surveillance system.

    Club seals not sandwiches.

Moving on, I have to say I’m having a hard time figuring out where I stand on this. As a LEO, I have to say that there are an incredible number of seriously fucked-up people out there who IMHO should not be allowed to roam the streets. Some of these animals end up raping and dismembering ten year old girls and strangling 20-something coeds with bikini straps. Some don’t.
I don’t think they should be given the chance. Personal freedom is a wonderful thing, but Libertarians are damn morons. Morons. I’m a firm believer that people are inherently evil, not inherently good.

If we can come up with a method to lock up seriously fucked-up people before they commit crimes, I’m all for it. I’m not talking about locking up gangbangers knocking over your local 7/11 or your run of the mill goblin with a room temperature IQ here. Not at all. I’m talking about a very specific class of animal. I can’t give you a medical diagnosis or a test as to what constitutes ’seriously fucked-up’. Wish I could. But I know evil when I see it. And it should not be allowed to run around loose.

There are going to be some false positives. Always are. We’ve also undoubtedly executed a couple people who were not guilty. The vast majority however were, and that’s why I strongly support the death penalty. Ends justify the means in that case.

If everyone was trained and armed, none of this would be an issue. Also, if I had x-ray vision, was bulletproof, and could fly, work would be a lot easier. Neither instance is going to occur any time soon.

Those of us who are trained and do possess the capability to confront evil have a moral duty to protect those who cannot protect themselves, which mostly means young women and kids. You can’t give kids CCW’s. And as much as I wish they would, the vast majority of young women refuse to get them as well. I don’t know what the solution is, but I can emphatically say that it is not to leave them to fend for themselves. Evil can do a lot of damage in the time it takes for myself and my brothers and sisters to arrive on-scene. It can do a lot more damage when it snatches kids and breaks into single-occupant dorm rooms in the middle of the night, because then no one calls us until they find the body three days later.

Only one way to prevent that kind of horror that I can see, and I think it’s to pre-emptively remove these animals from society before they can do damage.

Same logic applies to fighting terrorists.

Thoughts anybody? Like I said, I’m still trying to sort out where I stand on this one. Lotta internal conflict going on.

Has anyone checked with Tipper Gore as to her view on restricting the 2nd amendment rights of the mentally ill? Wouldn’t this increase the “stigma” of mental illness? After the “researchers” at Berzerkly (or some other California university) concluded that the views held by conservatives were prima facie evidence of mental illness, would that mean that there would be another question on the 4478 asking if an applicant to purchase a firearm was registered as a Libertarian or Republican, which would be an immediate disqualification to purchase? Better keep a close eye on this one.

    3. Develop a thug caste.

Only thugs I know of are the ones assaulting Conservative speakers on campus, slashing tires during elections and running rampant in our streets vomiting on sidewalks, defacing national monuments and destroying private property.

    4. Set up an internal surveillance system.

Like the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of “hate groups?” Or how about the proposal to kick meteorologists expressing doubt about Global Wormening out of the meteorologists’ association?

    5. Harass citizens’ groups.

    Er, what?

    6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release.

Oh yes. Our prisons are awash in people being randomly hauled off the streets and beaten and abused in our “gulags.”

Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, any scientist committing heresy against the Church of Gore etc.?

    8. Control the press.

Yep. The liberals have pretty much got that one nailed down already.

    9. Dissent equals treason.

Doubting man-made Global Wormening equals Holocaust denial equals Nazism.

    10. Suspend the rule of law.

Well I hate picking nits, Emperor, but I thought he was giving the avowed agenda for the Demonrat party. Every thing on that list they’ve either done, tried to do, or are actively trying to get started on. Often all three.

Oh, and Deej, would you PLEASE turn your brain on already? Treason is NOT dissent. Ever. If you disagree you may SAY you disagree. That’s dissent. You may resign in protest. That’s dissent. You may publically protest. That’s dissent. You may write letters to the editor so long as in the process you don’t break classification. That’s dissent. You may organize marches and speeches and rallies and whatever the hell else you want so long as you don’t do anything in any way illegal. That’s dissent. But you MAY NOT ACTIVELY COMMIT TREASON and try to call it “dissent”. It’s not dissent, it’s treason. There is a line that may not be crossed without being (and being called) a traitor. And your actively flagging for the bastards who have willingly and knowingly stepped over that line time and again. Which makes you a willing accomplice. I’d think about that if I were you.

Not worried about the weenie leftists arming up–most likely they’ll only do it to off themselves. No problem there. DJ Allyn’s list is a good guide for vigilance in a free society, but one needs a longer historical perspective to find such a pattern in the post-WWII U.S. There have been several invocations of in/ex enemies in the last 60 years, notably communism, the mafia, “the military-industrial complex,” drug-related organized crime, right-wingers/freedom cultists (ala Ruby Ridge, Branch Davidians), and islamic/anti-semitic terror. These span every presidential and congressional administration since 1945. There may be others I’ve forgotten. In the same time-frame, the feds have also created two kinds of “gulags”–the federal prison system, which primarily houses non-violent offenders against the state, like Martha Stewart, Edwin Edwards, Spiro Agnew, to name a few notables. The other “gulags” are federal housing projects, where an underclass is kept concentrated, and easily manipulated with the real opiate of the masses, social welfare. The thug caste is the congress and federal bureaucracy (e.g.,IRS, ATF, FBI), which also enables PC organizations that harrass and rat on citizens with a different idea or just a backbone. The real give-away, though, is control of the press, which is overwhelmingly in the hands of the far left, which truly brooks no dissent. Smarter folks can probably Fisk this thing further. But yes, warning bells should be and have been going off for all of us who are paying attention, but it isn’t the present, incompetent, lilly-livered executive administration or Guantanomo we need to worry about–it’s the long-term creep of federal hegemony and the loss of local political control that infringes all our rights. 2A remains the ultimate, if not the last defense against all such evil.

The examples you gave could have very well had the names changed and applied during the Clinton administration. But none of that is the point.

Naomi Wolfe was talking about when the sitting government does these things, and she laid out some good examples of that happening.

No. The point is that you can take her over-simplified “list” and make it fit every single society that ever existed, which means that her “list” doesn’t have much of a point at all. Except to give her a chance to, once again, howl and scream about the Impending Dark Night of American Fascism that nobody’s seen yet.

If the danger of that happening was even 5% of what she makes it out to be, she’d be languishing in one of the “gulags” that she hyperventilates about already. If she were lucky.

And that’s what I like about those senseless screeds. Every time one gets published, the mere fact that it gets published refutes every single claim contained therein.

And no, her examples weren’t all that good either. I read it. Most of them were baseless accusations born of a paranoid mind with an agenda, and the rest were hysterical extrapolations taken beyond the boundaries of sanity.

    “Minority Report”, anyone?

No thanks. I’ve kind of soured on Tom Cruise movies.

It’s amazing how the left take a basic template and lay it over the Bush Administration and scream “Facisim!!!!” but fail to realize that you can lay it over the Clinton Admin. and find the exact same thing…you just have to move the Intern’s lingerie over to the side to see it.

    Bingo!

Naomi Wolfe’s blather is an exact analogy to the now thoroughly debunked Global Wormening “Hockey Stick” Computer Model which was specifically designed so that, no matter what data you fed into it, it always came out with the same result.
