The woman referenced in JoeMerchant’s post COULD have been packing. Nebraska now has a concealed carry law. The guys who abducted her managed to have guns.

She may be one of those squeamish ones, or one of the anti-gun crowd, but after this, I bet she starts packing heat.

Nice article, a few of our more stupid (read left-wing) media mobs here in Australia are actually amazed that the shootings seem to be used as justification for more conceal and carry in America. I had a chat to a mate of mine in the coppers over here and he could see the sense in allowing more citizens to be armed, because “the bad guys will allways be armed”.

Would be interesting to hear Allyns explanation.WTF? Anyway, you all know he’s our token liberal. And he is a whiz with net stuff. Even “special children” have a purpose. What is important is that we stay calm, and expose the truth. Eventualy, calm reason gets through the emotion and the “if only…” attitude of the left. If the truth is out there, only those who WILL not see will miss it. Remember, the optimist, half full, the pessimist, half empty, the pragmatist, half. That’s it. Half. This is what it is. No fluff, half.

Would be interesting to hear Allyns explanation.

Actually, I was trying out my new smilies, and got sidetracked from taking it down.

Most of you probably never see it here, but on occasion I do post a test comment or a test post that will stay up for less than a minute while I work on something. This was something that I forgot to take down.

I am NOT a Liberal bent on takin’ away yer guns™ — unless you are a felon, mentally unstable, drug-addled, or just plain violent. I might also have a problem if you are a person who thinks you can solve all of your problems or arguments with a gun or violence.

I personally don’t own guns, but probably have more guns in my house than most of you. I don’t feel any safer one way or the other.

I’ve managed to live over half a century now without the need for a gun, and I feel confident that I have been in much worse situations and locations than the majority of you.

Still, not having a gun is MY personal choice, and far be it from me to tell YOU that you shouldn’t have one if it somehow makes you feel safer.

I do question the rationale that if everyone had a gun there would be far less shootings. Anyone who has ever been in South Central or Compton would know that is a folly. Everyone has a gun, and nobody is shy about using them. Still, it doesn’t keep people who are bent on robbing or killing people from doing what they are doing.

Usually, by the time someone pulls a gun on you and uses it, it is too late for you to respond. They shoot you, take your weapon, and are on their way with your gun.

First off, I should point out that is is no longer PC to say South Central, that name led to the perception of a violent area). So now it is called South Los Angeles and the death rate has dropped dramatically. :ponder_tb:

I had an employee with a POS car that lived there, and I would drive him home on occasion. I asked if he had a gun and he said “No, he would like one, but if he got caught with it because his car broke down, or DWB, and the cops searched, he would be in jail, the gangsta’s would still be out there, he would probably lose his job from missing work and his family would be even more susceptible to the crime while he was gone”.

Two quotes from DJ right here, say it well. That’s an example of freedom of choice. As he will, and as we will. The thing about you do your thing, I’ll do mine has always set well with me. Difference being on many of our parts that we choose the ability to protect ourselves and others. Had the ccw possessing students been able to defend themselves, nowhere near as many would have been summarily executed as they were. If you choose to roll over, or try to fight sans weapons, that’s your choice. But think of the people YOU can PROTECT if you choose the option to carry. Up to you.

had a “discussion with the wife earlier about a car chase I had watched. It went for about two hours. I argued that after they flattened two of his tires with the spike strip, and he didn’t stop, herd him onto a street that has eight cop cars at the other end, no jumping curbs and going around the “road block”, if he doesn’t stop before 200 yards of the cops position, it should be open fire.

Her answer was “OK, we’ll just shoot everyone and there will be no crime.” Typical liberal thinking, all or nothing. The fact that these asshats where putting hundreds of people in danger didn’t matter, or the fact they knew they could drive around without the police doing anything aggressive to stop them because then all of a sudden then it is the police that are the guys that cause something bad to happen. It just doesn’t register that this guy had a chance to stop and he choose not to.

I bring this up because of “choice”. Deej says he doesn’t want a gun, nor would he carry one. That’s his choice, and I wouldn’t force anyone to own or carry against their will. But the argument of “OK, we’ll just give everyone a gun” is the same as my wifes above. I don’t want Deej to carry because he says he wouldn’t use it, so it would be silly for him to carry around the extra weight, but because he chooses not to shouldn’t mean I have to give up my right.

I’m going to a party tomorrow night and one of my oldest friends will be there. He’s a Captain in my cities police force and I’m going to pump him on why it’s fricken impossible to get a CCP in California. If he can give me any insight or otherwise useful info, I’ll pass it on.

I don’t want Deej to carry because he says he wouldn’t use it,

Actually, I never said I wouldn’t use it if I was carrying. I just don’t make it a point to carry, that’s all.

I have a CCW permit, and have had one for a very long time. I’ve carried in the past on a “need to” basis.

I choose NOT to carry because of the extra responsibility it requires, and I really don’t NEED to carry.

I don’t like the idea that if I leave my house with a weapon I might have to USE that weapon that day. It isn’t a wrist watch or a favorite belt buckle — it’s a tool that has only one specific purpose.

Raise of hands, people: Outside of the military, how many people here has had to kill someone in their lives?

Yeah… I suck at getting my point across. That you have a CCW does take me aback, but then you a practical person, so on the other side it does not surprise me.

I only carry at specific times, like I’m at work, alone, in the the middle of crack central, on graveyard shift. Even if it was legal to carry at other times, I wouldn’t. I work in an oil facility and wouldn’t want my sidearm to get filthy while there are 3 to 20 other people around. But at 3 AM with 12 foot walls around me and lights, noise, and me wandering around with a flashlight, I think I have a reason to question the motive of anyone I run into, and we have had people appear in spite of the walls.

Days and Afternoon shift, there are people around and I don’t feel threatened. On graveyard, I’m on my own for 2 (on a slow day) to never minutes for the LAPD to respond.
