Just a quickie, courtesy of LC & IB Ace:

Mars is being hit by rapid climate change and it is happening so fast that the red planet could lose its southern ice cap, writes Jonathan Leake.

Scientists from Nasa say that Mars has warmed by about 0.5C since the 1970s. This is similar to the warming experienced on Earth over approximately the same period.

So, over identical time periods, the two planets seem to have been experienced identical temperature changes? Hmmm… We’re sure there’s a clue in here somewhere, but we’ll be damned if we can find it… Wait! Eureka! We’ve GOT it!

There IS life on Mars, and they’re driving big SUVs while raping Mother Martia with their foul, unsustainable energy production!

Since there is no known life on Mars it suggests rapid changes in planetary climates could be natural phenomena.

Er… Careful there… If the Goreacle and his Church of Gorebeciles hear you saying that, you’ll end up with a visit from the Moonbat Gorequisition when you least expect it.

*CRASH!*

“NOOOOOObody expects the Moonbat GorequiSItion! Cardinal Prius, Rrrrrrread the chargesssss!”

Warned ya…

Of course, no post would be complete without its obligatory Idiotarian guest appearance:

The mechanism at work on Mars appears, however, to be different from that on Earth. One of the researchers, Lori Fenton, believes variations in radiation and temperature across the surface of the Red Planet are generating strong winds.

Variations in radiation and temperature? Hmmm… What culprit in our solar system could possibly cause variations in radiation and temperature?

It couldn’t be… THIS?

Of course, luckily, Mother Gaia is completely immune to that insignificant spark of flame. Down here, every temperature change is caused by your cousin Cletus’ 4×4.

In a paper published in the journal Nature, she suggests that such winds can stir up giant dust storms, trapping heat and raising the planet’s temperature.

So, you see, the dust storms are causing the heat increase, the dust storms that are originally caused by wind, winds in turn caused by increases in…

SHUT UP! HERETIC!!!

Next, some iconoclastic heathen will start suggesting that rising temperatures lead to rising CO2 levels and not, as His Most Holy Pontiff, Father Goreacle, tells us, the other way around.

Of course none of this means shite to Gore’s Moonbat Squadron, as it’s long been proven that facts have little to no impact on the followers of the Goreacle.

My husband tried to debate his mother with the same info, ie ice caps on Mars shrinking ect, but she called him a denier (like the high priest of “global warming” Gore told people to do) We also thought of buying property somewhere coastal but she said not to because it would be flooded. I read an article somewhere that even if all the ice on both poles melted tonight the sea level would only rise about 3 feet, not enough to flood anywhere. Needless to say, holidays are fun at our house.

Truth be told here, it’s not identical periods. The earth’s 0.5 degree temperature increase has been over 140 years — starting much earlier than 1970.

On the other hand, I doubt our records of Mars’s global temperature go back that far, so who knows?

I’m just going to repost what I said in the last anti-climatology circle jerk:

Warming on Mars is interesting, but it needn’t necessarily have the same cause as the warming we are experiencing on Earth. The only relevant factor the Earth and Mars share is the sun, so if the warming were real and related it would have to be due to the sun. The sun is being watched and measured very carefully back here on Earth and it is not the primary cause of the current climate change that we are experiencing. We know this because there has been no increase in solar irradience since 1978. This means that for the last 30 years, while the temperature here on Earth has been rising fastest the Sun has shown no trend.

As for this alledged finding, there is very little evidence to go on when it comes to discerning a global climate change on Mars.

On Earth, we have poles melting, surface temperature rising, tropospheric temperatures rising, permafrost melting, glaciers world wide melting, CO2 concentrations increasing, borehole analysis showing warming, sea ice receding, proxy reconstructions showing warming, sea level rising, sea surface temperatures rising, energy imbalance, ice sheets melting and stratosphere cooling which leads us to believe we have GHG driven global warming.

One Mars we have one spot melting which leads us to believe…one spot is melting.

Take your snark and shove it, at least until you’ve done a little homework.

As a layman who can only take practical lessons learned and apply them to other situations…does the “steadiness” of solar irradience since 1978 indicate much? You’re talking about less than 30 years and if I remember correctly the Earth is fairly large.

When welding, I have found that the larger the object to be worked on, the more heat has to be applied to achieve that optimum temperature. I don’t suppose this could be the case with the Earth? What was the solar irradience prior to 1978?

Giving me numbers from such a limited time frame and applying it to something that is 6,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kilograms, seems to me that it might take a bit of time for effects to be registered.

Decide to use proper scientific methods (to produce 1.) and don’t skew the results to their advantage. But we know that would never happen, it might require them to accept facts, as just that, facts. Which would then get them to start thinking using reason/logic vice fweeings to arrive at mature adult conclusions. Personally I find it repugnant that so many see this as a backdoor to government management of our daily affairs. Use the marketplace, it works. I drive less, drive a fuel efficient car to work. I pay less for gas. Not rocket science here, folks. The same being true for a new HVAC system, energy efficient water heating, lighting in my home. It saves me money in the long run. It’s not only–or even primarily–solar irradiance that’s now suspected in cyclical warming, but solar magnetism, directly related to sunspots. It reportedly goes something like: More sunspots=stronger magnetic field in the solar system=less cosmic radiation getting through to Earth=less atmospheric particles to seed clouds=less clouds of the type that block the Sun & cool Earth.

You summarily dismiss any and all evidence which doesn’t fit your pre-ordained conclusions. I have invested a great deal of time educating myself on the facts of the issue. If anyone is ‘religious’ on this issue it’s you. Moreover, your brand of religiosity is reminiscent of that of the Young Earth Creationists who can stand in the middle of the museum of Natural History and say the world is only 6000 years old.

but he was backed into a wall and there was no way to explain why his theory wouldn’t work, ever. So he just decided to reject the results of the tests and stick with his fweelings.

Tends to remind one of Muzzyfucker, doesn’t it?

Spatula, since you will almost certainly delete my post or ingeniously vandalise it in your customary and incisively original manner (btw - is it still de rigeur for you to cleverly portray anybody with the temerity to stand anywhere to the left of Richard Mellon Scaife as kind of a goat molesting deviant? That one never gets old) there is very little point replying to you (at least not unless I can camouflage my flaming somehow) since I know that whatever arguments I make will be censored and replaced with whatever clever euphamisms for faggot you have been able to concoct today. I’ll just take this opportunity to wish you a pleasant evening. Ta ta.

Gotta give credit where it’s due, Muzzy.  At least you recognized when you were being baited.

I’ll just have to be sneakier about it next time.

My goodness, Muzzy, I see I hit a sore spot. You’ve shifted from stridently claiming the “truth” to stridently attacking me. Alas, the personal attacks don’t help your argument any.
    Now, quoting from your cite:

Radiometrically it is based on the ACRIM-I and II records; before the
start of the ACRIM-I measurements in 1980, during the spin mode of SMM, and during the gap between ACRIM-I and II,
corrected HF data are inserted by shifting the level to fit the corresponding ACRIM data

In early 1996 the VIRGO data take over, again shifted to agree with ACRIMII.
Finally the composite record is adjusted via ACRIM-II to SARR (Space Absolute Radiometer Reference)

Read on, and you see where they note changing the base information as the various probes degraded, usually faster than expected, or filling in when the instruments were off for various lengths of time. I would also note that since these are satellite devices and not recoverable (with the exception of the one on the Space Station, but even that has not been recalibrated), this degradation correction factor is inherently inaccurate, since they did not have the instrument back to check against the calibration standard how bad it had slipped.

So, you have bugger factors applied to account for the fact that each instrument read differently, their decay in the solar wind and then changing these derived values to a new standard. By this time, any information is thoroughly buggered up.

I would also note that the Telegraph would be considered a center-left paper here, and that attacking the paper’s political stance does not invalidate the article. Do you have a cite that can stand up to the director of the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research? No, otherwise you would have already trotted it out.

Again: Dr. Solanki vs. Doctored Data.
