We’ve often pointed out how, if you want to find a dozen truly ignorant fools, you need look no further than the jury bench of your nearest courthouse:

MIAMI — Many potential jurors in the Jose Padilla terrorism-support case say they aren’t sure who directed the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks because they don’t trust reporters or the federal government.

“There are too many ifs, too many things going on,” one male juror said. “I don’t know the whole story.”

Yes, we know. It’s a riddle wrapped in an enigma shoved up your ass. No, that can’t be it, since that’s where your head is residing. We mean, it’s not like we know the identities of every single one of the 19 hijackers, and it certainly isn’t as if Osama has-been Laden has publicly boasted, bragged and crowed about his accomplishment.

Heaven forbid that a clueless fucktard like you should ever be called upon to decide whether “reasonable doubt” exists, because you’re obviously the kind of cerebrally fucked up twit wondering if Earth really is round. Just too many “ifs” about it, right?

Others say they just don’t pay close enough attention to world events to be certain.

“I’m oblivious to that stuff,” one prospective female juror said during questioning this week. “I don’t watch the news much. I try to avoid it.”

You’re oblivious alright. How it’s possible for anybody, after 6 years of war and G-d only knows how many investigations into the matter, to still be in doubt about who perpetrated 9/11 is beyond us. And obviously beyond you as well. But, then again, everything seems to be beyond you.

Before they came to court, each of the jurors filled out a 115-question form asking about a wide range of legal, political and religious topics, particularly their views of Arabs, Muslims and Islamic radicals. On question No. 60, which asks for an opinion about responsibility for the Sept. 11 terror attacks, many people said they don’t know.

“I’ve been surprised at the number of our jurors who don’t have an opinion about 9/11,” U.S. District Judge Marcia Cooke, who is presiding over the case and asks most of the juror questions, said Wednesday.

We, however, are not. These are the same imbeciles who routinely award plaintiffs with, let’s be generous here, “dubious” cases tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars in awards simply because they felt sorry for the plaintiff and, at any rate, money grows on trees, right? What possible harm could come from it?

So Jose Padilla is to be tried by people who still aren’t “quite sure” about who’s responsible for 9/11?

Why not include a few chimpanzees on the jury as well? It would raise the average IQ of the group by at least 80%.

Hmm… I wonder if Truther disease is linked to pot?

In analysing MRI scans of the study’s subjects, Dr McGuire and his colleagues found THC interfered with activity in the inferior frontal cortex, a region of the brain associated with paranoia.

“THC is switching off that regulator,” Dr McGuire said, adding it effectively unleashed the paranoia usually kept under control by the frontal cortex.

    I have two questions:
    1. Is the jury selection process in some way under the control of legislation? If so, can we grass-roots a demand for change? The lawyers pick very unrepresentative peers, based on unrealistic and less than honest criteria imho.
    2. Is it illegal to require an intelligence test of some sort to be a requirement for jury selection? I’m especially concerned about the more complicated medical, computer technology, or (as in this case) common sense cases.

    and one request:
For those of you prayin’ lc’s. I’m currently in stalag Palm Beach county trying to sell a mildly hurricane-damaged home to move to a more northern county. I’ve found a special school that would be perfect for my son’s neurological condition but I must be a resident of that county by early June. I would like this house to sell and a least get enough out of it to move and fix up a new place for his special needs. Yes I’m looking for a miracle. Sorry for the o.t.

    1. Is the jury selection process in some way under the control of legislation?

It can be. Generally a function of state law unless you are in federal court.

If so, can we grass-roots a demand for change?

You can do that with any legislation. However, if intelligence becomes a requirement for jury selection, it takes many of us away from our jobs, and puts us on juries with university professors. Do you really want the mistrial rates in this country to spike like that? I didn’t think so.

The lawyers pick very unrepresentative peers, based on unrealistic and less than honest criteria imho.

Yes they do, but BOTH attorney’s get to do it, which surprisingly enough, can even the process out.

    2. Is it illegal to require an intelligence test of some sort to be a requirement for jury selection?

Yes. Don’t even contemplate it. Just like we can let the marching morons vote, they can also serve on juries. That’s how it is. I didn’t write the rules, but I am required to at least apy lipservice to the legitmacy of the system.

I’m especially concerned about the more complicated medical, computer technology, or (as in this case) common sense cases.

I once served as a juror for a civil suit. Four weeks of nutball psychologists, therapists and victims. Seems a bit odd wanting three quarters of a million bucks for putting a dent in a car door, a dent I could do with my foot. For you see, it resulted in severe mental anguish and trauma……from an Iranian plantiff, no less. It was a battle, but the lines were drawn…we split. I was told it was my statement swaying the necessary juror…”In this country, tie goes to the defender!” In a jury full of unemployed losers and other lifelless souls not easy. But not guilty, and now pay me my five bucks so I can go home!

You’re supposed to be judged by a “jury of your peers”

Not. You’re supposed to be tried by an impartial jury. That whole “jury of peers” thing is from the Magna Carta, designed to ensure that nobles would be tried only by other nobles. The concept is not enshrined in our Constitution. Unless you simply define peers as “other U.S. citizens” And, in light of this thread, “people with an IQ above room temperature.” But the idea is to have a cross-section of the citizenry.

Sorry to go off about this, but it’s my #1 Constitutional pet peeve. I’m practically OCD about it.

I’ve heard that the media had such an effect but I am not certain of its extent. The notion of voters sitting home due to discouragement by the bastard news networks’ deliberate manipulation is quite irksome. Nevertheless, I certainly wouldn’t place those would-be voters into the same category as those unable to punch a hole cleanly through a piece of paper beside the candidate of their choice. I just hope they’ve learned their lesson.

    2. If I went back I would have to be a farmer, and since I didn’t pay that much attention while growing up on a farm I’m afraid my family would starve.

Besides, it’s just Palm Beach County and points south that are terminally fucked. The rest of the state (except for the college towns) has it’s head on straight.

When I was in a jury selection, one of the lawyers asked us if we should use common sense to make a decision.

Only six (if that) of the eighteen candidates said yes.

I was disgusted that a nineteen-year-old on his first jury duty sounded SOOO much smarter than all the rest of the candidates.

    Thusly, I got off :p
