And just when we thought the eco-loonies couldn’t get more insane, Imperial Tech Wiz DJ points us in the direction of this nutcase, who isn’t content with implementing the Chinese Child Quota System. Oh no, he’s more ambitious that that. He wants to exterminate 85% of the global population (you first, Paul Watson):

Does humanity have a future?

We are presently living in what conservation biologists refer to as the Holocene extinction event. This is the sixth global mass extinction event in last 439 million years.

The previous five extinction events wiped out between 50 to 95 percent of species each time…

Followed by a lot of blah about previous extinctions for those who slept through school.

In a way, the Holocenic extinction event could also be called the “Holocenic hominid collective suicide event.”

After all, we Homo sapiens are the last survivors of the hominid line, a group that has been on its way out for some time. The beetle family, for example, has some 700,000 species by comparison. Odds are many of the beetle species will survive the event, whereas we will not.

Hey, Paul: Beat the rush. Eat a bullet today.

But the reality is that what is happening now is the result of the collective actions of us hominids. We are the ruthlessly territorial primates whose numbers have soared far beyond the level of global carrying capacity for the deadly behavioural characteristics that we display.

“Ruthlessly territorial primates”, “deadly behavioral characteristics…”

We don’t know about the rest of y’all, but we’re beginning to feel funny in the pants.

This did not happen yesterday because we suddenly became aware of the dangers of global warming. It began 50,000 years ago when a relatively hairless primate stumbled out of equatorial Africa and began wiping out the megafauna of the time.

Poor megafauna. Are they like giant mechs?

Wherever this creature (our ancestor) went, their arrival was followed by large die-outs of megafauna. Primitive hominids were well-organized, efficient, slaughter crews. As they advanced, the mammoth, sabre-toothed cats, cave bears, giant sloths, camels, horses, and wholly [sic. As opposed to the “partially rhino”, presumably] rhinos fell to their stone weapons and deliberately set fires.

Those dastardly hominids and their deliberately set fires.

The extinction of all of these great mega-species is directly attributable to “primitive” human hunters. The hunting down of the mega-fauna was followed by the advent of agriculture and the domestication of selected animals. Domesticated cows, goats, sheep, and pigs grew in numbers and denuded large areas of grasslands. Irrigation systems began to toxify land.

…with that deadly poison called H2O. Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide Now!

Then agriculture was followed by industrial activities, and finally, by the burning off of vast amounts of fossil fuels.

As an example, consider Australia. There were incredible creatures that once lived and foraged in the wilds of Australia more than 50,000 years ago. They vanished.

Just like that. *Poof!*, GONE!

They were victims of widespread fires set by the first human inhabitants, the ancestors of modern day Aboriginals. The fires were set to burn the brush, either to assist in hunting or to clear the land. Whatever the reason, the fires were devastating and the result was a massive extinction of species, primarily the majority of the incredible mega-fauna of the continent.

SAVE THE MEGA-FAUNA!
(Screw the ordinary fauna…)

Some fifty millennia ago, the entire ecosystem of Australia was disrupted and transformed by humans. The fires wiped out food sources for browsing animals like the 200-pound flightless bird called the Genyornis.

And how we miss it. Life just hasn’t been worth living since that giant turkey went to the Great Baster in the Sky.

Marsupials the size of grizzly bears were obliterated.

No more Giant Koalas for you, mister!

Also destroyed were tortoises twice the size of those in the Galapagos today,

Necessitating the use of two turtles instead of one for a wholesome pot of soup.

and snakes and lizards in excess of twenty-five feet.

It could be just us, but we somehow don’t share the feeling of loss at not being at risk of finding a 25 foot snake while mowing the lawn.“

The widespread fires altered the environment so drastically that what had been forest turned into a dry landscape of small scrubby shrubs and grasses, where smaller animals that could thrive on much more varied diets were able to survive while the megafauna vanished,” [Gifford Miller of the University of Canberra] said.

The more we hear about this mega-fauna, the less “mega” they seem to us.

Today, escalating human populations have vastly exceeded global carrying capacity and now produce massive quantities of solid, liquid, and gaseous waste. Biological diversity is being threatened by over-exploitation, toxic pollution, agricultural mono-culture, invasive species, competition, habitat destruction, urban sprawl, oceanic acidification, ozone depletion, global warming, and climate change.

…bad sitcoms, big hair, (c)rap music and daylight savings time too.

It’s a runaway train of ecological calamities.

And your column is a runaway trainwreck of illogical inanities.

It’s a train that carries all the earth’s species as unwilling passengers with humans as the manically insane engineers unwilling to use the brake pedal.

And silly, overwrought metaphors too.

The latest reports from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List (IUCN) – a database measuring the global status of Earth’s 1.5 million scientifically named species – states quite confidently that we will lose half of them by 2150.

And every time “quite confidently” appears in connection with predictions a century and a half into the future from a bunch of grant-funded loons, every single bullshit detector within three area codes of the reader ought to melt down. Particularly since the usual headline-creating extinction claims tend to be somewhat… exaggerated for effect (Paul Ehrlich, call your office!)

This is a cataclysmic prediction, yet it is strangely absent from the world’s media. No one wants to hear about it. It’s depressing. We would rather collectively deny ecological realities.

Or maybe the media are getting tired of being made fools of, publishing hysterical claims only to have them torn down, debunked, ridiculed and mercilessly mocked by actual facts a few days later?

Of the 40,168 species that the 10,000 scientists in the IUCN assessed, one in four mammals, one in eight birds, one in three amphibians, one in three conifers, and other gymnosperms are at risk of extinction. The peril faced by other classes of organisms is less thoroughly analyzed, but fully 40 percent of the examined species of planet earth are in danger, including perhaps 51 percent of reptiles,

We’re sure we’ll still be able to scrounge up enough of them to fill Congress somehow.

52 percent of insects, and 73 percent of flowering plants.

As long as we’re talking mosquitoes, ants, spiders, horseflies and hornets, we just can’t seem to get all that worked up over it.

Extinction of marine wildlife is considered to be even more severe with only 4% of the Northern cod remaining and sharks being removed from the sea at a rate of one hundred million a year.

…shoved into suits and hired on as partners in prestigious law firms. Oh, and while we’re at it, removing 100,000,000 (ONE HUNDRED MILLION) sharks from the sea every year, would you mind terribly focusing on the ones prowling our beaches? Thanks.

The trends are all around us and in the process of rapid escalation. Of course, it is easy to dismiss this and go about our business which is the ignorance-is-bliss-school of thought.

Easy? Oh boy, you have no idea. What were you talking about again? And hurry up, will you? We have to go fill up the SUV and get a few thousand rounds of ammo for our hunting trip next week. Hey, ammo’s cheap. And fun. For the whole family.

But, would we do this if we were diagnosed with a terminal disease? No, as depressing as that revelation would be, we would address possible remedies. We would look for a cure. We would try to survive.

Seems to us that we’re surviving just fine. It’s your precious “mega-fauna” that are biting the dust and, quite frankly, we always thought that anything with a “mega” in its name was a bit kitschy, so good riddance to it.

The planet’s ecosystem is a collective living organism and operates very much like the human body. Water is the blood of the earth. It provides the same function in the body as it does for the earth. Water transports nutrients to the land…

Except when humans transport nutrients to the land by way of irrigation. Then it’s “toxification”, as you pointed out earlier.

Humans are presently acting upon this body in the same manner as an invasive virus with the result that we are eroding the ecological immune system.

A virus kills its host and that is exactly what we are doing with our planet’s life support system. We are killing our host the planet Earth.

Nope. We’re just killing off the nasty bits. Oh, and the tasty ones too, but since they’re so tasty, we like to repopulate them so we can kill and eat them some more.

I was once severely criticized for describing human beings as being the “AIDS of the Earth.”

No you didn’t? Why on Earth would anyone do that?

I make no apologies for that statement.

Good. We’d hate for us to end up with anguish and remorse when we start implementing your plan. Starting with you.

Our viral like behaviour can be terminal both to the present biosphere and ourselves. We are both the pathogen and the vector. But we also have the capability of being the anti-virus if only we can recognize the symptoms and address the disease with effective measures of control.

All we have to do is kill ourselves! How wondrously simple!

The symptoms are right here before our eyes. Bee diminishment is causing diminishment in plants dependent upon bee pollination.

Not to mention the anguish parents will be facing when we’ll have to come up with alternatives to the “bees and flowers” talk.

Army ants support 100 known and identified species from beetles to birds.

See? Armies are a force for good!

Grey whales are returning to Mexican lagoons under-nourished.

Weakly whimpering “yo quiero Taco Bell” in that strange, noisome, ever so annoying language of theirs.

Seventy species of South American frogs have been declared extinct in the last two decades. Thousands of species of insects are going extinct in the rainforests that have not even been discovered and classified.

And, as we all know, every single one of those extinct insects that we don’t even know exist carry the secret to the Cure For Cancer™!

Of course, since we haven’t discovered them and therefore don’t know if they were ever there, we’ll just call “no harm, no foul” on the disappearance of the unknown vermin.

I remember walking along the beaches in Vancouver harbour a few decades ago. Every single stone overturned sent a flurry of disturbed baby crabs scurrying to find new cover. I was fascinated by the sheer number of tiny crustaceans that I observed on those walks. Today, I have not found a single young crab under a single rock on those beaches. They were picked clean by Vietnamese immigrants that descended like locusts onto those beaches and stripped them clean. And criticism of that exploitation immediately elicited accusations of racism.

The comparison to locusts may have had something to do with that too. Going out on a limb here, we know.

Today racism, cultural rights, and the right to exploit nature for commercial gain are the weapons used to defend gross over-exploitation of species and the destruction of natural habitats.

And there’s this little thing called “genocidal insanity” as well, linked somehow to advocating the extermination of 85% of the human race. But who’s counting?

There is only one cure, only one way of stopping this rising epidemic of extinctions. The solution requires an extraordinarily immense effort by all of human society but it is achievable.

Why do we keep thinking that this would read so much better in the original German?

Unless we address the problem, we will be faced with the complete transformation of the planet from one of diversity to ecosystems shattered, weakened, and destroyed by mass extinction and the collapse of bio-diversity.

One hundred and fifty years ago, Henry David Thoreau wrote that “in wildness is the preservation of the world.”

In between cursing like a drunken sailor at the damnable gnats, fleas and mosquitoes infesting his cabin and coughing up blood as a result of the TB eating his lungs.

We need to radically and intelligently reduce human populations to fewer than one billion. We need to eliminate nationalism and tribalism and become Earthlings. And as Earthlings, we need to recognize that all the other species that live on this planet are also fellow citizens and also Earthlings.

They get to vote too? Why not, really? Liberals have the franchise, so we probably wouldn’t notice much difference by granting it to broccoli as well.

We need to stop burning fossil fuels and utilize only wind, water, and solar power with all generation of power coming from individual or small community units like windmills, waterwheels, and solar panels.

Well, we’ll certainly need to kill off 85% of the world’s population to make that workable.

Sea transportation should be by sail. The big clippers were the finest ships ever built and sufficient to our needs.

Which is why we decided, once we’d invented the clipper, that enough was enough. Not to mention that we’d love for landlubber Watson to be drafted as a deckhand on one of those “perfectly sufficient” sailing ships of old. One Atlantic crossing and he’d be crying for his mama and begging for a return trip on anything NOT driven by wind. If he survived, that is.

Air transportation should be by solar powered blimps when air transportation is necessary.

Buh-bye global economy, understanding between nations, trade and travel. Hello, tribal ignorance. Oh, and goodbye to the poor suckers not already living in developed areas too, because they’re well and truly fucked.

All consumption should be local. No food products need to be transported over hundreds of miles to market. All commercial fishing should be abolished. If local communities need to fish the fish should be caught individually by hand.

Hello starvation too. It’s going to be so much fun to live in Paul Watson’s Medieval World™. One screwed up harvest and you’re done for, since nobody has a surplus to share and, even if they did, they wouldn’t be allowed to transport it to you.

Preferably vegan and vegetarian diets can be adopted. We need to eliminate herds of ungulates like cows and sheep and replace them with wild ungulates like bison and caribou and allow those species to fulfill the proper roles in nature. We need to restore the prey predator relationship and bring back the wolf and the bear.

The glory days of being chased around the woods by wolves and bears. We can hardly wait.

We need the large predators and ungulates, not as food, but as custodians of the land that absorbs the carbon dioxide and produces the oxygen. We need to live with them in mutual respect.

Good luck teaching a pack of rabid, starving wolves “respect.”

We need to remove and destroy all fences and barriers that bar wildlife from moving freely across the land.

At least somebody (well, some things) will be allowed to move freely while we humans are locked up in our 20,000 heads maximum gulags.

We need to stop flying, stop driving cars, and jetting around on marine recreational vehicles. The Mennonites survive without cars and so can the rest of us.

We’re beginning to think that the living will be envying the dead in Watson’s Brave New Dystopia™.

We need an economic system that provides all people with educational, medical, security, and support systems without mass production and vast utilization of resources. This will only work within the context of a much smaller global population.

And the tiniest sprinkling of fairy dust. But other than that it’s perfectly realistic. A high-tech, well-fed, perfect health society fueled by a medieval lifestyle.

Who should have children?

Not the likes of you, that’s for sure. Please tell us you didn’t reproduce. Having a kid call you “dad” would qualify as child abuse.

Those who are responsible and completely dedicated to the responsibility which is actually a very small percentage of humans. Being a parent should be a career. Whereas some people are engineers, musicians, or lawyers, others with the desire and the skills can be fathers and mothers. Schools can be eliminated if the professional parent is also the educator of the child.

This approach to parenting is radical but it is preferable to a system where everyone is expected to have children in order to keep the population of consumers up to keep the wheels of production moving. An economic and political system dependent on continuous growth cannot survive the ecological law of finite resources.

Of course, we never have been living under an “ecological law of finite resources”, they keep popping up all over the damn place and we find new and better ways of using what we have. Just ask your buddy, Paul Ehrlich.

Curing a body of cancer requires radical and invasive therapy, and therefore, curing the biosphere of the human virus will also require a radical and invasive approach

It won’t be easy but then it’s better than the alternative.

You know what?

You’ve got me convinced. You’re right. We’ll start the exterminations tomorrow.

Don’t be late, and be sure to bring all of your friends.

You wouldn’t want to be known as an Enemy of Mother Gaia by not complying, would you?

So, this imbecilic fuck suggests that worms and flowering plants have more right to live than humans? Why the fuck is that, may I ask? I’ll give this asshole a challenge. Why doesn’t he come on over, and try to “eliminate” me. If he doesn’t succeed, he has to chop off his own shriveled nuts with a dull rusty blade and quietly bleed to death. Good Lord, even a 5-year old zombie has more brains (granted, most of it in its GI tract) than these greenie leftards. As someone who nearly died being born (and would have, had we not had the technology we had in 1982), I know exactly how much I’d want humanity to go back to Post-Roman Empire days: not at all. I’d rather the Vogons come and blow up the planet outright than kill off over 5/6 of the human race. This is what comes of that pseudo-philosophical abortion called utilitarianism.

We are the ruthlessly territorial primates whose numbers have soared far beyond the level of global carrying capacity for the deadly behavioural characteristics that we display.

Ecch… If we’ve soared far beyond the level of global carrying capacity we’re already extinct. (That’s what happens when you exceed the carrying capacity of your environment.) Nothing like a little hyperbole dressed up as fact to get your reader’s attention.

As it is, humans continue to produce far more than they consume, neo-Malthusians nonwithstanding. With the exception of sub-Saharan Africa (wracked by HIV, malaria, famine and — not coincidentally — socialist governments) human life expectancy continues to rise. These are not the traits of a species that is in imminent danger of decline.

The latest reports from the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s Red List (IUCN) – a database measuring the global status of Earth’s 1.5 million scientifically named species – states quite confidently that we will lose half of them by 2150.

This is highly reminiscent of the same rubbish that was “confidently predicted” by Lovejoy back in 1980, except that his models showed that we’d be in horrid trouble by 2000.

The simple fact is that we don’t even know how many species exist, much less how many are going extinct per unit time.

The rest of the article is more of the same. It isn’t just the usual anti-technological Luddite tripe, it’s pure anti-life nihilism.

This man values no one and nothing. Just ignore him.

Preferably vegan and vegetarian diets can be adopted.

Uh, when one lives in a medieval environment like the one Watson is describing, one needs a 6,000 calorie a day diet to provide energy used for the incredibly difficult, drudge work one does in a day. In the absence of irrigation, you need to haul water from a stream. In the absence of anything resembling a store, you need to grow your food. Eating nothing but vegetables and fruits all day is a quick way to starvation in Watson’s world. If you live like that, you need to eat meat. A LOT of meat. Hence the massive buffalo hunts American Indians used to have, or how Canadian tribes would follow the caribou around. Vegan and vegetarian diets are only workable in a developed economy. But Watson’s got his head too far up his own ass to recognize the inherent contradiction in his bullshit.

Screw the earth. I don’t care. I don’t have kids, and as long as it holds on til I die, I couldn’t give a shit. I don’t care about nature, endangered species, rainforests, climate change, ice caps, pollution, clean air, NOTHING.

In that article can be found much of the basic dogma of Envi-roligion:

The planet’s ecosystem is a collective living organism and operates very much like the human body. Water is the blood of the earth. It provides the same function in the body as it does for the earth. Water transports nutrients to the land…

Humans are presently acting upon this body in the same manner as an invasive virus with the result that we are eroding the ecological immune system.

A virus kills its host and that is exactly what we are doing with our planet’s life support system. We are killing our host the planet Earth.

I was once severely criticized for describing human beings as being the “AIDS of the Earth.” I make no apologies for that statement.

Our viral like behaviour can be terminal both to the present biosphere and ourselves. We are both the pathogen and the vector.

See? We are not of this earth. We are a pathogen. Any other time in the planet’s history when one species has replaced one or more other species due to their spectacular success as a species, that was natural. Humans do it, it’s not. Termites releasing methane into the atmosphere, bovine creatures (ones that aren’t farmed by man) farting, leaves decaying, wildfires caused by lightning, predators eating prey — natural. Humans releasing CO2 into the atmosphere, eating prey, burning flora — unnatural. Any time the earth loses a species, it is a colossal tragedy. Except for humans. That would be fine with them.

It’s time we insist on the enforcement of the “separation of church and state” these people are always talking about and keep this religion out of politics.

Why doesn’t something just evolve that needs higher CO2 levels and lower O2 levels?

    Umm, I think they’re called ‘trees’ ?

Yes, we need to respect our ecosystem. Yes, we need to stop fucking with it. Yes, it’ll be just jolly to adopt cleaner, better fuels. But no, we’re not going to commit mass suicide while everyone else lives like barbarians.

Huh? Am I missing something here, or is it just the rapier-like wit of some which defeats me? WHERE does this guy advocate mass murder/suicide to solve the population problem? Seems to me he simply states that the population should be controlled by reducing birth rates.

Let’s turn the question round on some of you. Whilst some of this guy’s ideas are waaay out there, can any of you tell me that there ISN’T some limit to where the Earth’s population should grow?

Yes, it’s too bad there are no more megafauna. No animals the size of elephant. None as big as a rhinocerous. No land animal as huge as a hip- … -po … wait a minute.

Where did man arise, according to evolutionists? Africa, right? Where are there still “megafauna”? Africa, Right! So, I’m guessing it wasn’t mankind’s doing, the snuffing of snuffleupagus.

I get to thinking, why did dinosaurs get so big? Why have we no really enormous beasties except in the ocean?
Because it takes a very long time for the evolutionary advantage of greater size to manifest. Greater size doesn’t usually confer very much advantage for the inherent difficulty in becoming a behemoth. It requires a steady climate, unchanging circumstances, continuous food supply. The beast must be fairly long-lived, or all the energy building it would be expended for very little reproductive output. Such a monster would be at the mercy of its food supply. A cooling, a warming, too wet, too dry, and BOOM! The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

But even within recorded history we have seen fairly wild climate changes in fairly rapid fashion, and then there are the several nifty ice ages and warm periods to screw with the evolution of a “megafauna”.

And I’m pretty sure that mankind didn’t invent fire for the universe. Yes, I believe(I don’t know, because I wasn’t there), I say again, I believe there were fires on Earth that started without the nefarious aid of Man. Yea, I believe that there are still fires starting without the offices of Homer Sap.

So, When’s the Global Climate Changening gonna off the “megafauna” that authored the drivel under discussion?

Don’t think he said “no more”, simply that many disappeared with the rise of man - he used Australia (not Africa) as a specific example of this.

Where did man arise, according to evolutionists? Africa, right? Where are there still “megafauna”? Africa, Right! So, I’m guessing it wasn’t mankind’s doing, the snuffing of snuffleupagus.

Sorry, Steve, I was just musing, not trying for the definitive debunk. I’m just saying that there were three events occuring simultaneously, and this guy discounts climate change as a factor. People are whining about polar bears dying off because the temperature has increased .1 degree celsius in the past decade, but the ending of a ice age has no effect? The advent of another ice age had also no effect?

Smilodon went extinct in the Americas at roughly the same time as humans arrival. Coincidence? In that one did not cause the other, yes. The last ice age ended at the same time. At that time also mammoths, woolly Rhinos, etc., went extinct. All due to the hunting of a few hunter-gatherer clans? Please. They may have helped, they may have finished the pitiful last few lingerers, but what of the millions of buffalo? Deer? Bears? Did Mr. America Sr. decide that he and his band of ten hunters were better off tackling an elusive eight ton mammoth instead of a couple of the millions of buffalo?

As for the Dinosaur thing, there were megasaurs because climate stability allowed for it. Millions of years of relatively stable climate. Selection for bigger animals was not impeded by food shortages, rapid terrain change due to extreme weather, etc.

Such climate as we do not have, but that Africa and southern Asia have had, even during ice ages. That’s why there are the largest land animals there. The American tropics were hampered by less land area and more extreme terrain, dense forest and the like.

Again, I’m just thinking out loud. As for the limit of how many humans the planet can carry, we keep passing the old estimates with surpluses of capacity, so who knows?

    Going to bed now.

Agreed Ed. A combination of factors (including climate change) have been responsible for the disappearance of various species from the planet. Jury’s still out on what exactly caused the demise of the dinosaurs.

But, to discount the role of man in hastening the removal of some species would be as equally foolish and narrow-minded as to ignore the phenomena you include.

Specifically, the megafauna that he includes as having disappeared from the Australian continent.

Many researchers, in addition to Miller, have spoken about the role the indigenous people have played in altering the landscape through regular firing of the bush - a practice STILL undertaken by some communities living in remote locations, as a means of regenerating areas. There is strong evidence to show that this practice also impacted heavily on both faunal and floral species in the past.

Again, I’m just thinking out loud. As for the limit of how many humans the planet can carry, we keep passing the old estimates with surpluses of capacity, so who knows?

    Sorry, Steve, but reading comprehension is one of my stronger suits. Here, the savages own words;

“We should not be living in human communities that enclose tiny preserved ecosystems within them. Human communities should be maintained in small population enclaves within linked wilderness ecosystems. No human community should be larger than 20,000 people and separated from other communities by wilderness areas. Communication systems can link the communities.

In other words, people should be placed in parks within ecosystems instead of parks placed in human communities. We need vast areas of the planet where humans do not live at all and where other species are free to evolve without human interference.

We need to radically and intelligently reduce human populations to fewer than one billion.”

    And then there’s this;

“Curing a body of cancer requires radical and invasive therapy, and therefore, curing the biosphere of the human virus will also require a radical and invasive approach

It won’t be easy but then it’s better than the alternative.”

Hmmm, hope we aren’t exposed to your weaker suits Crunch…

His proposals for a radically reduced population mention NOTHING about “mass genocide” (is there any other kind?).

In fact, if you read his article in total context (something that one of superior comprehension skills would do), you find that his ’solution’ entails a drastic reduction in birth rates to a point below zero replacement.

Not so. His reference to childbearing is a population maintenance strategy. Parenting to be a profession just as engineering, or manufacturing, and coupled with home-schooling, serving to eliminate the need for schools.

His strategy for reducing the human population was deliberately ambiguous, to be read how one wants. Therefore, he favors mass extermination. If he didn’t, he’d have said so. Or don’t you think so?

What he has actually said is that humans are a cancer that needs radical and invasive therapy to cure. Add that to a call that the human population needs to be decreased to under 1 billion, I don’t think it’s taking him out of context at all. This approach to parenting is radical but it is preferable to a system where everyone is expected to have children in order to keep the population of consumers up to keep the wheels of production moving. Today racism, cultural rights, and the right to exploit nature for commercial gain are the weapons used to defend gross over-exploitation of species and the destruction of natural habitats.

I tend to agree with this, in part. I think it’s lumping too many dissimilar points together to be taken very seriously, though. “Racism” is an easy thing for people to shout when they see some way of scrounging a free lunch. Happens everywhere. Tough to stop…

Sea transportation should be by sail. The big clippers were the finest ships ever built and sufficient to our needs.

Count me in. I long ago had enough of climbing out of stinking, noisy ships on government work. At least you’d get a decent sleep on a sailing ship.

All consumption should be local. No food products need to be transported over hundreds of miles to market. All commercial fishing should be abolished. If local communities need to fish the fish should be caught individually by hand.

I was a bit suspicious of this guy’s science earlier in the article (I understood that mega fauna were well in decline before humans had much say in the matter) but this really points to the guy’s background. He’s one of those ‘responsible products’ hippies. They confuse distance with energy usage and then call it green science. They can also be pretty violent.

Those who are responsible and completely dedicated to the responsibility which is actually a very small percentage of humans.

    And if you don’t agree… ?

Eco-babble is becoming a very powerful political force. Science it is not.

I was told recently by a person of a green persuasion that my car was destroying the environment. When I explained to her that her own car used more fuel, and created more emmissions, than my modern common rail diesel SUV, she changed her tack and stated that it was ‘intimidating’. “Good”, I responded, and wished her good day.

You can’t argue science with these people; they’re as radicalised in their own way as Al-Qaeda. In this gentleman’s case, I suspect that if given the option of killing off 85% of the human race, his response would be “where’s the trigger?”

Fortunately, he’s an idiot with bad science, and we can ignore him and his pals.
