And now that we’ve cheered you all up, we feel that it’s our duty to mention something that will get your blood pressures right back up.

RCOB moment ahead (link thanks to LC MuscleDaddy):

On April 16, colleges were rocked by the news coming out of Virginia Tech.

[…]

In the aftermath, officials at Hamline University sought to comfort their 4,000 students. David Stern, the vice president for academic and student affairs, sent a campus-wide email offering extra counseling sessions for those who needed help coping.

Scheffler had a different opinion of how the university should react. Using the email handle “Tough Guy Scheffler,” Troy fired off his response: Counseling wouldn’t make students feel safer, he argued. They needed protection. And the best way to provide it would be for the university to lift its recently implemented prohibition against concealed weapons.

[…]

After stewing over the issue for two days, Scheffler sent a second email to University President Linda Hanson, reiterating his condemnation of the concealed carry ban and launching into a flood of complaints about campus diversity initiatives, which he considered reverse discrimination.

“In fact, three out of three students just in my class that are ‘minorities’ are planning on returning to Africa and all three are getting a free education on my dollar,” Scheffler wrote with thinly veiled ire. “Please stop alienating the students who are working hard every day to pay their tuition. Maybe you can instruct your staff on sensitivity towards us ‘privileged white folk.’”

So after sending two emails to faculty, Scheffler, himself a gun owner duly licensed to carry, was surely lauded for expressing his opinion, right? After all, our universities live for vigorous debate and free expression, so surely a concerned email or two from a student offering a solution to atrocities such as VA Tech would be met with approval and appreciation.

Well, not exactly:

On April 23, Scheffler received a letter informing him he’d been placed on interim suspension. To be considered for readmittance, he’d have to pay for a psychological evaluation and undergo any treatment deemed necessary, then meet with the dean of students, who would ultimately decide whether Scheffler was fit to return to the university.

The consequences were severe. Scheffler wasn’t allowed to participate in a final group project in his course on Human Resources Management, which will have a big impact on his final grade. Even if he’s reinstated, the suspension will go on his permanent record, which could hurt the aspiring law student.

“‘Oh, he’s the crazy guy that they called the cops on.’ How am I supposed to explain that to the Bar Association?” Scheffler asks.

So, for expressing an opinion, Scheffler was kicked out of school, and was told that he’ll have to pay for a psych eval to prove that he’s not insane and then go through a humiliating grovel session before his peers before he’d even have a shot at finishing the education that he has surely paid through the nose for already. Oh, and even if they do decide he has proven that a law-abiding, trained and licensed gun-owning citizen isn’t a psychotic mass murderer, his final grade and permanent record will still be fucked up.

It’s a pity that he didn’t compare Bush to Hitler or call the victims of 9/11 “Little Eichmanns” instead. They’d not only have passed him, they’d have given him tenure on the spot.

Oh, but it doesn’t end here.

After they’d expelled him, they had an armed police officer stationed outside his classroom to make sure that he didn’t come back to murder them all.

Hamline University, Minnesota.

Remember that name.

I’m glad I didn’t get suspended. I wrote a very similar email to one of the deans in response to their pathetic campus-wide email after April 16.

    I never got a reply.

The email they sent me is really long, so I won’t post it here. It offered counseling services and claims that PSU is, was, and would continue to be safe.

    Here was my reply:

Seriously, how is Penn State significantly different than VT in terms of safety?

Why doesn’t PSU allow students to carry on campus? Shouldn’t this policy be reconsidered after yesterdays events? It certainly would have changed the odds for the victims yesterday had they been able to defend themselves. The VT police did absolutely nothing to stop the perp. Why should I expect PSU police to protect me?

That is where political correctness has gotten us. We have to espouse THEIR political views to be correct. We cannot expect our culture to be respected because, well, we have all the power, right? You know, us white devils.

Apologies for going off topic, but if you were wondering why your Liberal neighbors were sobbing tonight, it might have something to do with this:

Well we know that Minnesota is a libtard paradise so though this story about free speech impeded at Hamline U is no suprise consider what happens to someone with a firearm in Minnesota who is defending himself: They robbed him; he’s in jail

Donald Hurd says he was just standing up for himself when he pulled a gun and fired after three young men attacked him and ran off with his wallet Tuesday night in St. Paul.

One of his shots hit an 18-year-old robbery suspect, and now police say Hurd, a 68-year-old handyman from Bigfork, Minn., may have broken the law when he opened fire.

Hurd initially told officers he didn’t shoot his gun - a lie he later said he blurted out because he was scared. Officers arrested Hurd, not the robbery suspects.

The 18-year-old was taken to Regions Hospital. Police said he was expected to survive the gunshot wound to his shoulder.

On Wednesday, Hurd was locked up in the Ramsey County jail on suspicion of assault and facing possible charges. He said during an interview he was still shaken and unable to eat because “my stomach’s full of knots.”

since when is that a crime, even if you don’t agree with the opinion?

When you are on a college campus. I taught at a private university here for 12 years. During that time, we had a questionable “art” show…one piece of “art” in particular showed a man and woman in compromising positions. Had they done that in public, they’d have been arrested.

I fired off a letter (not email) to the director of the art gallery, the head of the art department, the dean of the college, and the university president. I didn’t get fired, but my dean didn’t speak to me for MONTHS because he was so angry that I had sent the letter. I never caught any flack outright for it, but when I got passed over for a full-time position there, I suspect that the letter (and my other “rabble-rousing”) had a LOT to do with it.

This is not entirely off topic,Border Patrol Agents Compean and Ramos got charged for using their guns to shoot a fleeing drugrunner in the ass, ….and then they got railroaded by US Attorney Johny Sutton and thrown in prison. Subject: Mrs. Ramos: “This is our best chance to free ‘Nacho’”

    From Steve Elliott
    President
    Grassfire.org

    Todd,

I received a great surprise when I arrived at my office this
morning. Monica Ramos, wife of imprisoned Border Agent
“Nacho” Ramos, sent Grassfire I wonderful letter.

I must tell you, Todd, I’ve never been more proud of our
team than I was reading her letter. I want to share portions
    of it with you below.

    + + + + + +
Exclusive Monica Ramos letter to Grassfire
    + + + + + + + +

    Dear Grassfire team,

I wanted to take a few moments to update everyone about “Nacho” and
the wonderful support he is feeling from all who are writing him.

Nacho has been so moved by the many letters, cards, and notes
that he has been receiving from so many Grassfire team members.
He has sent me many of the letters people write him expressing
how they have really touched his heart. He feels like he has
been adopted by so many wonderful people that continue to write
and lift his spirits. Nearly every day he receives prayers,
jokes, paperback books, and even pictures. What he often asks
me for though is updated information because as everyone knows
he does not have television privileges or phone with the
exception of his one 15 minute call every 30 days, so it is
difficult to keep up with daily news unless it is mailed
    to him….

I’m also so thankful that so many Grassfire friends are working
so hard to build support for Duncan Hunter’s bill to pardon
my husband and Mr. Compean. Steve Elliott wrote in one of
the updates that he believed this was the best chance to
free them, and short of a miracle, I agree.

I have so much more to share, but I will save it for another
day. Thank you for adopting us into your family. We so
appreciate all of you. Thank you. Thank you.

    Monica

(To read the entire letter, see the link at the end of this update).

    + + + + +

Todd, after reading this letter, I’m more committed than
ever to work to free these men and bringing them home to their
    loving families.

Nothing would give me greater satisfaction than to one day
know that Grassfire played a role in righting this tragic
    injustice!

And that is precisely what is happening right now. Thousands
of Grassfire team members who share my commitment have
scheduled FaxFire faxes to key House leaders urging them to
co-sponsor Rep. Duncan Hunter’s legislation to Pardon
    Ramos and Compean (H.R. 563).

Only weeks ago, 95 co-sponsors supported this bill. It was all
but forgotten, and gathering dust in two House committees…
    until grassroots Americans took action!

Today, 99 co-sponsors support this bill and more are likely–

all because grassroots Americans refuse to forget, and are on
    a mission for justice!

Todd, this has been an amazing initiative, if you
haven’t yet taken action and scheduled your FaxFire faxes,
do so right now. As Monica wrote, “this is the best chance
to free them.” Click here to schedule your faxes:

I’m focused on that day when these two men are returned to

played a role in righting the wrong. Share in that with me
    by scheduling your faxes:

    http://www.grassfire.org/6142/offer.asp?rid=12454448

Taking action is easy. We’ve put together a list of the 11
most important House targets, along with your Congressman.
We’ve also written the fax letters …all that’s needed is
for you to answer our call on behalf of Ramos and Compean.

P.S: After scheduling your FaxFire faxes forward this message
to your friends urging them to take action as well!

The question for me is: Was Schleffler suspended solely because of his pro-RKBA stance, or was it because he sent a hot-tempered rant of an e-mail to college officials, much of which had nothing to do with the alleged issue at hand, and during the course of which he mentioned he personally was armed?

Requoting from the article, with added emphasis:

“Thinly veiled ire.” I think that’s the problem right there. What does Schleffler’s rants about funny foreigners getting a “free ride on my dollar” have to do with concealed carry?

If Schleffler had simply constrained his comments to the issue of concealed carry and moderated the tone of his remarks, would there have been a problem? Instead he apparently - if the press accounts of this article are to be believed - used his e-mail to air a whole litany of grievances that had nothing to do with the issue, and did so in such a way as to indicate that he has some sort of a grudge against the university.

In other words, Schleffler apparently came off acting like a stereotypical racist, right-wing-extremist gun nut…and that’s how the university treated him.

Yes, I concede that Hamline University might not have been so anxious to kick Schleffler out had he been a liberal, no matter how extreme his rhetoric. Still, that doesn’t necessarily excuse Schleffler’s actions (assuming this story is being accurately reported). If we’re going to argue for expansion of concealed carry or any other sort of gun rights, it behooves us to make our argument in as calm and rational a manner as possible.

From the looks of things, Schleffler didn’t.

From the looks of things, Schleffler didn’t.

I suppose I’d better start hiding my guns (and myself) then, since “calm” isn’t in my dictionary when Idiotarians are around. Yet, inexplicably, I still manage to not murder them in an indiscriminate torrent of blood rage.

I’m routinely rude and offensive and yes, I AM a duly licensed CHL holder, so I suppose that means that everybody has probable cause to sic the police on me, even though I can assure you (people who know me will testify to that) that I’m as peaceful as a lamb. At least until I’m directly threatened.

Listen, I understand your point and yes, I do recommend being reasonably polite when you’re trying to achieve something, but I don’t see where it says that CHL holders don’t have a right to be irritated or express their irritation, lest they be expelled and kept off the premises by armed police.

Unless, of course, Scheffler directly threatened to murder faculty and fellow students if he didn’t have his way, in which case he’s too stupid to attend a school, any school.

But I somehow doubt that he did.

I was in the Twin Cities about the time JPII died.
I was a Chicagoan and thought I had seen everything.
When I walked by yards that still had Skerry signs in them, I realized I hadn’t. :rollingeyes_wp:
So being the non-confrontational sort that I am :innocent1_tb: I found all sorts of reasons to bring up the fact that I voted for Bush-especially at the “Prairie Home Companion ” store in MoA.
(It had to do with Obama. :wink_ee:)
The whole area made Chicago seem….conservative in comparison.

The Viceroy of TexMexica says: “This is not entirely off topic,Border Patrol Agents Compean and Ramos got charged for using their guns to shoot a fleeing drugrunner in the ass“…

Hey Viceroy of TexMexica here is a tangentially related story courtesy of the Washington Times: Border chief hit for bullying

U.S. Border Patrol Chief David V. Aguilar is being denounced for “intimidation tactics” in sending a top aide to seek a “show of hands” among field agents for those who support the chief, who received a unanimous “no confidence” vote from leaders of the agency’s rank and file.

The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which represents all 11,000 of the Border Patrol’s non-supervisory field agents, called unannounced appearances last week by Jeff Self, the senior associate Border Patrol chief, at morning briefings at field offices in Tucson and Nogales, Ariz., a public relations ploy aimed at discrediting the no-confidence vote.

“Chief Aguilar has decided to implement intimidation tactics in an effort to undermine the vote of no confidence,” the NBPC’s Local 2544 in Tucson said in a notice to its members. “He has dispatched one of his associates to address musters and to corner rank-and-file agents at their workplaces.

I hope this kid gets a good attorney and shoves the issue up the University’s ass sideways. These guys are way out on a limb.

    Wes,

I don’t think it makes any difference how the kid stated his list of greivances to the dean, and I read it as the concealed carry being one of several issues.

In fact, I’m quite certain that had a similar list of complaints originated from say, a black female student, that the reaction would have been quite different and would not have consisted of any suspension whatsoever. This was a case of a series of uncomfortable questions being asked by a student who clearly had not been sipping from the font of PC wisdom, and because he was a white male, could be made an example for it.

I’d take the guys case, and whether we won or lost when done, I’d have made damn sure to shine a really bright light in all the places the school would prefer to avoid scrutiny. I understand his frustrations. I’ve been there myself, and that’s how I’d know which questions to ask.

All I can say is that those who made these decisions to kick the kid out of school are nothing more than shit-hole lickin’ pansies.

Can anybody find the e-mail address of the ‘faculty’ involved? All I can find is addresses for ‘admissions’…no names though as to who will read my e-mail I want to send. I’m not gonna cut ‘em no slack. Fuck ‘diplomacy’ (I have absolutely no abilities at it anyway) and fuck ‘PC’.

Also, why isn’t the ACLU standing up for this guy? Surely it can’t be because he’s *FOR* the right to carry, right? Fuckin’ worthless scumbags… :furious_tb:

Found Hanson’s e-mail address. Here’s what I wrote (and I actually was pretty mild, compared to what I *really* wanted to write):

What happened to democracy? What happened to being proud that a student is using the tools he’s *paid for* to learn, that because he asks direct questions, is thrown out of school? Is it your policy to teach the students to *NOT* ask questions and debate, but instead to just learn what *you* want them to know?
You do remember that this is America, right? If it irks you that someone, especially a student, questions your ‘agenda’ or even mentions something that frazzles your delicate sensibilities, maybe you should go work in another field…in a country that supports Socialism and Fascism. I’m sure you’d be a lot friggin’ happier.

If I’d put what a stinkin’ love bucket she was, I’m sure she’d have never read it or would have sent the law on me for a hate crime…which actually would have suited me just fine, now that I think about it.

Blackiswhite, Imperial Agent Provocateur, You, sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I used to harass the loons at the University of Californiastan about their affirmative action crap and never got anything but platitudes, not having the dinero to push a fight legally. To put it sucinctly, most universities are little cominterns.

Personally ….all good conservatives should go into education when they retire from their “real” jobs and reverse some of the leftist brainwashing wrought by our education system.

    J. Christ, Viceroy of TexMexica, have you looked at the requirements for a teaching credential? I have. In California they would gag a maggot. Diversity plans? Then one spends a few years grovelling for tenure. Fuck it. I could not tolerate it. My dear old Mom taught highschool, a graduate of Stanford and Cornell. I cannot believe the nonsense she put up with, and the dumbasses who ran the schools.

Well ..living in Rio Linda, Texas version,…all you have to be is breathing…and promise to get a honest to goodness teaching certificate! I’ll do it when I retire from my business…just can’t take the pay cut now. Most my aquaintances here are teachers (they speak English and my Spanish will only carry me so far in conversations!) Fortunately a couple of them are conservative (in fact they converted me from my 180 degree out of whack view of the world to reality!) and also fortunate for me…I like antagonizing the others with the truth (boxed the Home Ec teach right into a logic corner Weds! It was great fun!

My mom once (some 50 years ago) attended Hamline, as did others in her family. Anciently (in the ’60s) I spent a lotta time at her mother’s home, about three blocks from the campus. I hope none of my relatives are at Hamline now. (For the record, due to circumstances, my mom didn’t graduate till some 20 years later–from our local backwoods school up here.)
