LC kwongdzu sends us this about what was going on behind the scenes as Bush was negotiating with the Tehran Tumblefucks that have murdered an untold number of our soldiers and continues to be the biggest state sponsor of terrorism on the planet (a snippet, but do read it all, especially for the video bit):

For some reason, no one told you that just 5 days before Monday’s talks, an entire floating army, with nearly 20,000 men, comprising the world’s largest naval strike force, led by the USS Nimitz and the USS Stennis, and also comprising the largest U.S. Naval armada in the Persian Gulf since 2003, came floating up unnanounced through the Straight of Hormuz, and rested right on Iran’s back doorstep, guns pointed at them. The demonstration of leverage was clear. And it also came on the exact date of the expiration of the 60 day grace period the U.N. had granted Iran.

And it came just a few weeks after Vice President Dick Cheney had swept through the region and delivered a very clear and pointed message to the Saudi King Abdullah and others: George Bush has unequivocally decided to attack Iran’s nuclear, military and economic infrastructure if they do not abandon their drive for military nuclear capability. Plain and simple. Iran heard the message as well, and although a lack of leverage may seem clear to America’s retired military tv talking heads, it is not so clear to the government in Tehran.

Now, I have nothing but the highest respect for Pat Dollard, he’s very high indeed on the list of people whose hands I’d love to shake, and I’m certainly not going to suggest that sending an Armada to your enemy’s doorstep isn’t a quite powerful message indeed (it’d be more powerful if our President wasn’t named George “Can’t We All Just Get Along” Dubya, but I digress), all of this is true.

But it doesn’t change the fact that you do NOT negotiate with terrorists. Ever. In any shape, form or fashion. To do so achieves nothing but to encourage them and grant them a standing in the eyes of the world that they have not earned, don’t deserve and won’t earn unless they voluntarily commit mass suicide.

There’s nothing wrong in sending an ultimatum to your enemies, even if they’re terrorists, but you do not let them say a word. They don’t exist. They’re not human. They have not earned the RIGHT to talk. They will listen quietly, then they’ll wander off in silence and do as they’re told, or they will be exterminated within 48 hours, and that’s the end of it.

You shouldn’t even dignify them with actually being PRESENT when the ultimatum is given. Send them a note, leave a message on their answering machine, tie the ultimatum around an inert JDAM and dump it in front of their government building, write it on a piece of paper and nail it to the chest of a dead terrorist (or a live one, that works even better), but don’t EVER let them or anybody else in the world get the idea that their opinion matters, that they’re worthy of being seen as sentient beings or that they have any say in the matter.

Because they don’t.

Let them know, in no uncertain terms, that they have two choices and two choices only: Unconditional surrender and submission or complete, swift, brutal extermination AND let them know that we don’t really care either way. One of the two will happen within the next 48 hours. They only get to choose which one.

THAT’S how you deal with scum.

Thatisall.

    FIRST !!!

Why bother with even a short message, with a carrier battle group steaming along the horizon? Even the turbaned, tumblefucked turd-lickers have a basic understanding of such a visual message. Diplomacy by any other name.

Crank up general quarters for flight ops and begin a little demonstration of force-projection. I think Bull Halsey would manage to get their unequivocal attention with this simple, elegant statement, if we could recall him for a special assignment.

I am pleased to read about the hardware being delivered to Tehran alongside the flowers and platitudes.

But I like your foreign policy. It has a good precendent for success.

With one exception, however. Politics being what it is, there will always be elements in a society’s elitist layers looking for a loophole. Looks like that’s what has happened to us. I remember in GWB’s first term, there was a lot of talk comparing him to Ronaldus Maximus. I think those days are long gone now.

So sensible as your foreign-policy balloon is, it would appear a baby porcupine has wandered in and wants to play with it. I’m afraid reality, in either the short term or the long one, is always going to be doing that. I wish it were not so.

Behold, the bitch from whom terrorism is born.

The Iranians may try and make some hay and score propaganda points out of the fact that the Great Satan sat down and talked with them, but I think that in the actual talks it was similar to what Misha’s negotiations are. It’s just so damned hard sometimes to read the diplospeak when they come out from behind closed doors.

The “surge” offensive is in it’s final stages of deployment, AQI is more or less on the ropes and they know it, and Iran can see that it’s the last seconds of the game and we are at fourth and goal. They will be acting to step up support to the Hajis to keep the offensive from succeeding.

The Stennis/Nimitz battle group and the accompanying ARG are a message to the regular Iranian army. They are getting fed up with the Revolutionary Guard getting all the good equipment and funding and running the show. The battle group reminds the regulars juts who exactly is going to take it on the chin. I think it’s a subtle hint that the time for a coup may be getting close.

I think it’s a subtle hint that the time for a coup may be getting close.

I think that maybe the most effective way to bring the Mullahs down is to get some good well aimed surgical strikes in against their nuclear facilities and top flight military….and let the opposition inside Iran do the rest. Between the military and citizens that are fed up..they might be able to pull it off. But maybe that’s too simplistic an idea. If we go overboard the ones on our side at the moment could well turn on us and support the ones they need to be overthrowing.

You read it here first, next it’ll be on the front page of the Old Gray Nag–”Ahmedinejad forces U.S. to withdraw the largest military armada to enter the Persian Gulf ever and the U.S. follows its yellow slime trail home again.” Never mind that it’s a complete lie, that our sailors, marines, soldiers, and airmen were ready, willing and able to put those phucks right where they belong–in hell. I could be wrong (inevitable here), but I thought most of the nuclear facilities were too far underground to be bombed.

I suspect you are right. If we attack them, the opposition would have to come to the aid of their homeland, and we would lose them as potential allies.

It makes me happy to have the aircraft carriers in the region.

[Do not anything construe from this that I like Iran having nuclear facilities! Left, right–no one likes it]

They’ve done a pretty good job of dispersing and hardening the key sites, but we do have tactical nuclear bunker busters that can hit most of them. The strategic problem will be target selection. We need to take out a program vital component, something that they could not recover from. From what I understand they have pretty well scattered those, and built redundant systems.

It would be a tough nut to decisively crack, not impossible, but not as easy as say taking out Tehran’s power grid. Another little incentive to the resistance.

A strategic question; Why not hit the Mullahs? Is that possible with precision bombing and/or SF teams? Not that we could get ALL of them (at least not as quickly as we would like to), but could enough be sent to Jesus (NOT allah, whutta surprise for them, eh?) to take care of the problem, and eliminate the finger that would push the button.

If this could be done without irradiating the countryside, so much the better. But, if not, oh, well, F**k it. Too bad for them. Just don’t hit the oil!

I sadly agree… a big “Dog and Pony Show”.

It made my chest swell with pride to watch that armada cruising in harm’s way, but the the irani’s wouldn’t dare attach it, and I don’t believe this Administration would use it unilaterally, so they’ll make a circuit of the Gulf and cruise on out again, accomplishing nothing.

Militarily, Iran is quite beatable. However, no one really wants to fight Iran. There is nothing to be gained from giving the Iranians a bloody nose. There won’t be a western backed government in Iran; there won’t be any support from within Iran; and the neighbouring Arab regimes hate the west.

You can imagine the reaction, pre-1990, if Iran had announced it was developing nuclear weaponry. The west wouldn’t have had to lift a finger; Iran’s neighbours would have attacked them.

The occupation of Iraq has created a space for Iran it never had before. No Arab regime will directly oppose Iran because it paints them in the US corner. The US, meanwhile, has spent most of its political credit in Iraq.

The solution to the Iranian problem is success in Iraq; partition the country, and arm the new states well. Partition is working in the Balkans, once regarded as the graveyard of diplomacy. It would work in Iraq.
