…by planning to blow up a girls’ school in Baghdad (link thanks to LC Cheapshot911)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) — American soldiers discovered a girls school being built north of Baghdad had become an explosives-rigged “death trap,” the U.S. military said Thursday.

The plot at the Huda Girls’ school in Tarmiya was a “sophisticated and premeditated attempt to inflict massive casualties on our most innocent victims,” military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell said.

The military suspects the plot was the work of al Qaeda, because of its nature and sophistication, Caldwell said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.

The plot was uncovered Saturday, when troopers in the Salaheddin province found detonating wire across the street from the school. They picked up the wire and followed its trail, which led to the school. Once inside, they found an explosive-filled propane tank buried beneath the floor. There were artillery shells built into the ceiling and floor, and another propane tank was found, the military said.

The wire was concealed with mortar and concrete, and the propane tanks had been covered with brick and hidden underneath the floor, according to a military statement. Soldiers were able to clear the building.

Authorities intend to question the Iraqis involved in the school’s construction.

Use car batteries, acid and rusty knives, please, then shoot the vermin in the gut and let them bleed to death.

Mercy for the guilty is treason to the innocent.

Here, Pyschochick, this one’s for you. I’d like to see you spin this into something positive. This is the aim of the left…to get all our kids used to wearing the burka and used to the customs of the muslims…for one reason, and one reason only.

    http://tinyurl.com/2xdn6m

‘Open tent’ at Amherst Middle School

Here’s my favorite part of the article:

Seventh-grade girls hosted the hijab and veil stations, where other female guests learned how to wear the required head covering and veils. An antique trunk full of black abayas worn by women, and white thobes worn by the men, were available for guests to try on.

Then, of course, comes the spin:

The “open tent” was created to encourage participants to reach out and learn from people around the world, and to promote curiosity and cultural understanding.

    RIIIIIGGGHHHTTTTT…and Elvis is still alive.

Had my kids been at that school, I’d be looking for a new school right now.

I’m wondering, is weaing the burka a “cultural tradition,” or a “religious” one? If it’s strictly religious, then it seems to me that this is a GROSS violation of the left’s beloved separation of church and state (which, incidentally, does NOT exist in the constitution).

    Hey SkyeChild,

left’s beloved separation of church and state (which, incidentally, does NOT exist in the constitution).

Notation enumerating the sepparation of church and state won’t be found in the constitution, as the constitution regulates actions, things we can or can’t do.

Religion regulates thoughts, beliefs. Things we should think or not think.

Maybe one can find good moral reasons there to go forth to commit legislation, but if someone tries to cuff me for heresy, blasphemy or sleeping late Sunday,, the fight is on.

No government that I live under will ever do that.

I’m sick to the teeth of the news on the screen
of Hisbullah scum and jihad the obscene
whose men plant the bombs and then live feeling free
to watch women and children be killed on T.V.

Which satan delivers a child a death curse
in the name of a worn out collection of verse
I’ve not read the book so I cannot recite
but I’d bet Salman Rushdie is just about right
underneath the black cloud of Islam.

What kind of publicity needs so much blood
that’s not for some sad diabolical god
selling himself as a two-bit Macbeth
as the expect in sentencing cousins to death?

And what kind of god can this be anyway
that you have to prostrate to him five times a day
with hate in your heart and a gun in your hand
is force the only thing to understand
underneath the black cloud of Islam?

And the butchers who’ve got all this blood on their hands
are the ones who need god to be stood where he stands
blessing this kidnapping, murder and war
with books written hundreds of ages before?

And woman in veils walking paces behind
    doesn’t sit easy in my mind;
It speaks of oppression and no other choice
that rigid compliance with the loudest voice
underneath the black cloud of Islam.

You can put a lead bullet clean through this guitar
‘cos I’m not overjoyed with the story so far
sharing a world with the nutters of god
is as good as being six feet under the sod.

Words that are written are all here to say
and these are the latest there are anyway
and I am the prophet so don’t believe me
I’m the same as the old ones expect that I’m free
to give you a piece of my mind which is this
you’re the worst of Jehovah’s blind witlessnesses
with your feet in the door of the deepest abyss
which is underneath the black cloud of Islam

Did you notice the part about the girls not being allowed to participate in the dancing and such because it was prohibited? Why, again, do so many people who would otherwise froth at the mouth at the idea of prohibiting women from doing things just because they are women support this?

If some poor kid wears a one inch cross or has the nerve to bring a Bible to school he will be suspended or expelled but everyone else can do what they want.

    Not everyone.

The Schoolmarm that busted me in highschool for wearin’ my Beloved Southern Stars n Bars was never far from her Rosary.
‘Nice Jesus-on-the-cross portrait hung on the wall of the office where I got the lecture on equality.

My shirt said “Equal rights for Southern Whites”. Go figure..

There’s plenty of religious stuff everwhere, ‘can’t keep it out. The truly faithfull won’t feel the need to decorate their landscape with icons anyhoo, their faith being an integral part of their character, not just a big hat to impress others. I like these folks. The one’s that live it rather than just wear it.

    Just to keep it snarky:

Is Darwin’s Origin of Species available in the Christian reading groups yet? Carl Sagan? ‘Couse not, those books are still bein’ skewered by folks that never read ‘em.

My roundabout point being,, Religion belongs in churches, synagogs’,,, not thundering over a young captive public audience. If parents want a religious education for their kids, there’s always Sunday school.
Our government has to respect the rights of the other’s that don’t want a religous oriented education for their kids in schools that they are directed by govenment to go to. As it should be.
The koran provides for those that can’t make the prayer times faithfully, so, they’re lyin’ if they say they can’t get to heaven without forcing all the others to stand by and listen to the wailin’.
    It’s taqqiyeh, infiltration. prophesy.

Cheapshot, you are so right. I would not want someone preaching to my kids in a public school, no matter what church/synagogue/mosque/temple ect they were a member of. I do not plan on sending my kids to a public school under any circumstance however. Having a Muslim festival in a public school is on a par with having a Catholic High Mass or camp meeting in the cafeteria. A cultural festival is one thing but this was definately not a cultural festival. Let the local mosque host something like this if they want to but with all the garbage coming out of public schools they need to teach reading, writing, math and history. It is horrifying to talk to public high school graduates and hear gross errors in geography or history. For example I had a former boyfriend who is also a college graduate say that Europe is a part of England. I actually had to get an atlas out to prove him wrong and show him that England is indeed an island off the coast of Europe. A cousin of mine thought that the United States was a collection of independant countries (California schools)

I really do suspect the exercise was meant well, but if I had to wear a hajib (even briefly), that would really put me off on that brand of Islam. There are countries where the tv commentators go bare-headed. I forgot where–a bunch of them just got death threats. (might have been Jordan)

Well that’s my troll-esque comment for the day.

I wish you would say whether you saw that large post to you. It ranged from saying you were right on some things to some invective for questioning my credentials. I had posted my full name and credentials, so you could check them out if you wanted to (probably have better things to do with your time). Misha took them down for safety reasons, but is willing to verify they were there. I was really pissed, but wasn’t horrible to you. I don’t think you deserve the evisceration treatment.

Credentials are nice, but by themselves don’t really don’t add much to any statement’s veracity.
Yeah, I know, there was tuitons, cramming and testing winning them, but they’re only a tool. Just like the Snap-on stuff in my tool bins. Shiney expensive specialized tools, not a single one or all of em’ together are gonna gaurantee I get the tractor started, but maybe that piece of wire layin’ there on the ground,,

‘Aint the tools, it’s their expert application bring’s the job to a happy ending.

Prolly for the most part having an inverse effect on veracity or credibility. Considering Academia is 98% frothing Chomskyites, it’s a reasonable general rule.

But take heart brother, Psychochick (18 minutes after her buh-bye on another thread) approves !!! Just don’t notice though, she might get paranoid about her personal information being published all over the intertubewebnet.

Yeah, you’re right. I think tools is a really good comparison to academis. Ideally gives you the tools to analyze things well. (Oh God–did I hijack a thread again?–I’ll never hear the end of it.) There are lots of idiots with degrees and many smart people without. (I keep mentioning my spouse as the latter–easily my academic equal) My science background is only occasionally relevant here and doesn’t mean I know anything about politics. I try to keep up with that on my own, but I really better work today instead of posting all day.
I might be leaving anyway. I can’t handle eviscerations. It takes too much of a toll. Most people have been so nice to me.

Psychochick, I agree with you that the program was probibly well meant. I do wonder about forcing women to wear hijab and who was behind the exercize. The teachers were probibly well meaning, but if anyone at the local mosque was involved I would wonder about protlytizing efforts.

I’m still here because 2 people asked me questions! Now agreeing with a post is a fault? What sort of Orwellian world are you in?

By the way, most professors are not Marxists. that’s crap. I haven’t been hanging out in the women’s studies dept, but I will tell you that the biologists definitely are not Marxists. teaching genetics or biochem doesn’t lend itself to Marxism.

I am the one who posted my information! Don’t you get it? If I were that horribly paranoid, I wouldn’t have done it!

Good to know everyone gets slapped around. It’s a new thing to me. I have NEVER been treated like that. But I promised I would leave, so I guess I’ll take it as you say–normal.

You’re timing my departure? That says something. Just as well. You seem to be haunting all my posts. I’m getting vulturitis–being circled around waiting for the dead carcass. (Actually bought a toy vulture for the living room, but it’s hideous)

    Psychochick,

At the risk of dredging up old stuff…no, I didn’t see your reply (I assume it was on the other thread). I never questioned your credentials; I merely suggested that people weren’t overly impressed. I have been around academics most of my adult life, and I wouldn’t give a plug nickel for most of ‘em.

And, while your scientists may not be Marxists, per se, there is plenty of that crap going on in colleges and universities across the nation. My state’s taxpayer-funded universities REFUSED to let their students fly the AMERICAN flag after 9-ll because it might offend the Muslims. awwwwwww *hears teeny violin playing* If they’re that offended, they can pack up and GO HOME.

There is plenty going on in the public schools, regarding socialism, etc. Either you choose NOT to see it, or you just don’t pay attention. You can deny it, if you wish, but it’s still there.

There are universities using taxpayer dollars to feature “The Vagina Monologues,” while not allowing “The Passion of the Christ.” I would consider the former a representative of the secular “religion.”

On my own campus, one art student cried “censorship” when she was told to remove her S&M art show. Unfortunately, she used the wrong venue…a private university…for her show. She should have hung it at the public university. As it was, she somehow managed to convince a Catholic parish to let them hang it in the basement of their parish hall. Go figure.

You know what pisses me off about the left, especially when they talk about Islam, is that they think that they know EVERYTHING about it post 9-11. The last time the libtards backed any religion it was either Buddhism or New Age garbage. Those were the fashionable religions of the lefto-jackasses. They sat around and listened to music that sounded like wind chimes in the background with vocals of chanting that sounded like someone was constipated on the toilet.

They babbled on about how these two religions were peaceful and shit…until 9-11 and somehow ISLAM became the new fashionable religion of peace. Read the Qu’ran, Hadith and the Sunnah. A person will find out that it is NOT a religion of peace. It never was meant to be that way. It has always been about supression, control, death, manipulation, theocracy, and SUBMISSION! The main goal of Islam is Dar-al-Islam, the world of Islam. To them, peace will only be if the world is all Islamic…if not it is Jihad on the Infidels. Hence, why the douchebags in Palestine create Farfur, the demented suicide bomber/Jihadi Mickey Mouse. The whole religion is deranged just like the naive idiots who support the shit blindly in the name of Multiculturalism.

Actually, I pretty much agree with you on everything. It’s fucked up to not allow a flag to be flown after 9/11.

I think “The Passion of Christ” is perfectly reasonable to show at a university, and I think “The Vagina Monologues” is also reasonable.

I’m really not into censorship. I know it’s a PC tendency, and I think it’s usually wrong.

I don’t have much experience with the public schools any more. I really don’t know what is going on. I guess that’s my fault.

Yeah, there probably is too much Marxism on college campuses, but I don’t deal with it in my field.

I don’t think I should be evaluated on my credentials. I think it’s reasonable posts that matter. That doesn’t mean I’m not happy with them–they were a lot of work, and those committee-based exams are pretty scary. I’m sorry I misunderstood you and glad I didn’t malign you. You’re always pleasant. I wouldn’t want to be an asshole to you.

By the way, the oh I’m a scientist thing about the lightbulbs was not meant to be snotty, but was meant to support your position. I meant I might be more noticing of the mercury issue compared to a normal person, who might just toss them in the trash (bastard!)

I suspect you are right about Jewish training in schools. I could imagine it happening if there were some comparative religion thing. Could it be that it’s just such an established religion that it would be over-looked? I think most students (and I) could benefiit from more info about Judaism.

‘Open tent’ at Amherst Middle School

I actually think this is a pretty good idea. Know your enemy. Respect their strengths and exploit their weaknesses. I would insist on context in any school discussion of Islam, of course. A few photographs of the Bali pubs after some cowardly bastards committed mass murder there would probably make the point.
